Has anybody read the book suicide by sugar? I am thinking of ordering it as a stocking filler.

Breakfast was just 2 cups of green tea
Lunch was 2 slices of pepper coated gammon
Dinner is mince beef and cabbage casserole with parmesan cheese on top.

We have been trying a few new things today.

Breakfast was a chocolate Extend bar ( I will reorder, very nice)
Lunch was coleslaw and a chicken drumstick
Dinner was broccolli and cauliflower cheese with pancetta

Snack will be chocolite bar, cookies and cream flavour or a packet of just the cheese pizza flavour :) (Haven't tried them yet, will update)

Thanks for the above. I try to use spelt flour if I have to use it, which is more tolerable than the normal flour. You have to wonder how much better everyone would feel if they reverted back to the older style wheat- could save the NHS a fortune!!!

    Hi everyone,

I'm new to this thread so hope you don't mind a new member :)

I started on an low carb diet on Monday of this week - currently limiting to 20g carb per day for the first couple of weeks then will look to increase.

First day went really well. Not at all hungry and really enjoyed the food. I had read that people often feel very clear minded and much better on this diet, and I was strangely surprised to find I felt exactly this on Monday evening. It was a great feeling.

However Tuesday was a bit harder, I seemed to be hungry. I think it's because Monday was soup for lunch which actually I struggled to eat as it was so filling. Whereas Tuesday's lunch wasn't so filling.

I managed ok though. But now it's Wednesday, and day 3, and I feel absolutely awful. I have a most terrible headache, can hardly concentrate or string any thoughts together, and I feel a bit wobbly.

Been reading up, and people seem to be recommending extra salt intake and to drink more. Even before this diet I drank LOTS, I literally always have a drink of water in my hand. So it can't be that. Going to add a bit of extra salt to my lunch (soup today yay!).

Hoping this will make me feel a bit better. Determined to ride out this initial rough period as everyone that I've read about says it does ease off. I hope it does :o

It sounds like you have 'Carb flu'. It is just your body adjusting to being without carbs and changing over to a different metabolism. There are links somewhere in this thread explaining it much better with all the scientific info etc. All I can say is it proves you are doing the diet correctly. Keep going as it should only last a few days and then you will be back to feeling great.

you will feel awful - I certainly did around day 3. its your body adjusting to the change in diet. make sure you eat enough to keep your energy up - even things that may previously have been off limits on 'low fat' diets such as cheese or nuts.

    Hi boots_babe
My first suggestion would have been plenty of water (at least 4 pints), but seems you have that one covered :D
Maybe reduce carbs a little more slowly as Mark Sissons suggests (about 8 paragraphs down the page); and make sure you're getting enough fat (not trans-fat though).
    :)

EDIT: Just to clarify, by 'reduce carbs more slowly' I meant that it might be too quick a jump for you to go so low straight away. If you can't cope with feeling ill in the next day or two, perhaps raise them a little, then lower them slowly again when you're ready :)
