I have just been on my supermarket and seen that MrT has 200g bags of ground almonds on 3 for 2 and just £1.33 each :j

6 packets will be going in my trolley :D

    <sneaks in> Hello :hello:

Thanks for this PP. I'll have go pop to Mr T's today, again! I usually get whole ones from Health shop: £5.10 for 500g and I've been blanching them recently because of this*, which is a bit of a pain. I'll still do that for 'snacking nuts' but for my pancakes ready ground makes perfect sense: wouldn't have expected them to be cheaper.. (I'm sure I checked that when I first started buying them... )

    *
The almonds used are blanched, with the skins removed. Since one of the major problems with eating a lot of nuts (like in breads made from them) is the mineral-binding phytate content, and phytate lies in the skin of the almonds, Paleo Bread should be safe on that front.

Had terrible day yesterday. Ate pastries, pies, & cakes after the funeral. Then there was so much left we all brought a little home and I had the same again for tea because I was too tired to make anything else. I thought it would be a real treat but after eating one or two items off my plate I realised I wasn't enjoying it at all and much prefered my low carb food. As always when I eat things containing lactose I ended up with a sore mouth but at least I haven't had the stomach cramps too. So glad to get back to normality today.

I agree, it's not the same flavour, but there's something abit addictive about eating wheat I think,it makes you want to eat it, despite not enjoying it!!
Hope you managed to get back onto the straight and narrow!!

Its such hard work isn't it. They say eat nuts cos they're good for you, now they say, the skins may not help, so blanch them......aaaargh

    I know!
That, and a couple of other things I read on Mark's site and elsewhere had a (admittedly rather small) part to play in my 'falling off the wagon' in the latter half of the Summer holidays, and not getting back on it until the last couple of weeks! :o It all got too confusing: what we should/shouldn't eat, what's good/bad for us, low fat, low carb, fat is good/bad, no such thing as bad cholesterol, etc. etc..
The only things I'm completely certain of is that refined sugar is generally unnecessary and not normally good for us (though something like honey is probably fine in moderation), and too much is certainly bad for us; and processed food is bad: the more processed it is, the worse it is for our bodies.

But hey ho, excuses are for shmooses (just made that up :p), so kicked the wallowing to the kerb and moving forward. Just lost a little weight I think from doing a 3 day diet, so am feeling positive :D

Off to do a bit of exercise now :j
(Then I'll be able to eat! :rotfl: Got some Halloumi that needs using up: will be nice in an omelette with a bit of ham. Nomnomnom! :cheesy: )

EDIT: The halloumi has been in the fridge for over a month... I've cut off the nasty-looking (black  ) bits, chopped it and removed more little brown bits and it's going to get a good frying. It says on back not to use past use by date but date on front (Sept. '12) is a BBE date.. :undecided
Anyway, if you don't see me again you know why......... _pale_

  • Hi all
I hope everyone is well. I have been experimenting with sweet food here and yesterday took some to a fundraiser at our hom ed club. They seemed to go down well and I was asked for recipes.
I have also tried ice cream and once I get past the taste of stevia it wasn't bad. These were popular: http://lconeday.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/almond-butter-cups-low-carb-and-gluten.html

Hi Honnoja, nice to see you are still around :) x

I like almonds but use them as flour mainly, eating wise I prefer brazils as they are half the carbs.

Today we have had celery with almond butter for brekkie.
Lunch was pork crunch and a raspberry cookie.
Dinner was cauliflower rice with bacon curry.

Snack later will be a sneaky vodka and some brazils :)
