  • I am meeting a friend at Costa coffee today. Should I just have a black coffee with sweetener. Is there anything else a bit more exciting that I could have?

Anyone here who approved of the stirring going on by thanking and engaging with the trolls, well, you get the thread you deserve :rotfl:

    Wow.

This is an incredibly unfair and unnecessary comment.

I 'engaged' with the 'troll' as you put it, and I thanked him on occasion because what he said made sense to me, so this comment is pretty much aimed at me and others like me. I don't think he was particularly wise to post here but last I looked this was a thread open to all.

ab is not a troll, I suggest you look up the correct meaning to confirm this. He's simply a poster who believes in posting his opinion despite others holding different opinions.

I don't always agree with him but some of what he said made sense. However his mistake was coming into what was clearly a low carb support thread and imagining his advice would be welcomed, especially since he does tend to have a provocative manner at times (sorry ab but it is what it is). It was inappropriate (imo) and rather than take that on board, he continued to post in the same way. He should have said his piece then left it at that. This was never intended to be a general diet thread it was specifically targeted to support low carbers.

That said, it takes 2 to tango as they say, and perhaps if people who didn't like what he had to say, had simply ignored his posts then things wouldn't have carried on. I understand people come here looking for advice, but advice takes many forms and it's up to the individual what advice they want to consider...the extreme low carb route or the lower carb route. Shouting 'troll' as soon as someone says something that isn't welcomed is just silly imo.

This thread seems to have a bit of an extremist 'Mother's Meeting' type reputation these days, and you can't blame ab for that.

I'm sorry guys. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, you know I've been here for years and know a lot of you from low carbing way back, but it's a wee bit annoying reading this from the background and seeing more than one side to it all, yet one person (ab) is getting blamed for the thread going quiet.

For the record, I didn't stop posting because of ab and I know of another 2 people who didn't either.

I hope you all can stick around and carry on doing what works for you and sharing low carb bits and bobs. A silly altercation on a thread shouldn't stop people from carrying on as normal, surely?

    Happy Friday, all. :D

  • Inspirespirit, hi, I'm not a regular Costa customer so not sure of all their products, but you don't need to have coffee black, you can have full-fat milk or cream. I'm not a fan of sweeteners, but if you can't have coffee without sugar, can you try having less.

I'm sure they do teas, green teas don't need sugar, or peppermint tea if they have it. But I don't know if you want to go to a coffee shop and have tea!?

Just stay away from the flavouring syrups, like vanilla, hazelnut etc, full of sugar, and of course the dazzling array of cakes!!
  • Thanks Murphy. :) I don't drink tea, unfortunately. I'll have coffee with cream and half a sweetener (heaven, coffee with cream.mmmmmm can't remember the last time I had one of those). I'm liking this diet more daily.

Also, does anyone know where I can get almond butter from please? Is it just a normal supermarket buy?

So do I but that's mostly because I'm at the age where my boobs head south. :rotfl: I wish low carb could help with that. :D

  • Yes most supermarkets sell it now, with the jams, peanut butter etc. There is a main brand, Meridian, I think, I need to get some more too.

alias - mine went that way a long time ago but it is amazing what a good bra can do :D

On mysupermarket the only shops showing almond butter are Sainsburys and Ocado but it may be different in store. murphydog - what do you have with yours?

sistercas - missed you. How is it going?
  • Well done AB. Another thread ruined.

The clue was in the title - low carb diet support thread.

This is what happens when someone notices a load of bull being spouted. I picked up on one or two things and got attacked. However not in a debating sort of way, no just accused of trolling. That person doesnt seem to have any facts to put forward that would prove me wrong and so as a face saver is now playing victim.
Yes its a low carb thread. the word is "low" not zero or lowest.
I have posted 3 recipes, a starter , main and desert Combined they would make a nice low carb meal full of flavour and nutrients but because I didnt source the lowest possible options I am now a troll.
All people here are different and any post unless otherwise stated is likely to be a generalisation. In the same way that the body is not really suited to a high carb diet unless you are a real sports person. The same is true about an ultra low carb diet.
Some posters here may be overweight and sedentary and in this case seeing a diet that restricts carbs but lets fat go free may be a recipe for disaster. remember a gram of fat has twice the calories of a gram of protein or carbohydrate and it still remains a fact that whatever diet you are on if you absorb more calories than you burn you are going to put on weight. That is simple 1st year physics.
Who I am is not important. What I do is.
  • oh my word...... I've not even had the chance to get to know any of you properly yet. :( Please don't leave any of you. I, for one, need all the help I can get and those of you who have already been there and done it are a mind of information for someone like me.

You can't beat information and advice from others that are following the same regime. No matter how many books you read, personal experience is invaluable.

I hope this settles down very quickly.

Hi there. I agree with you. You know, about two years ago, I looked high and low for a low carb diet thread, and the only one I found was in the USA. I love Americans, but it just wasn't the same.. as we couldn't share tips on getting the best-buy proteins at our local supermarkets. etc. etc.

I love this thread. I am a bit busy at the moment, and when I'm on the ball, I post every day, but at the moment, I have a full time job, and i'm also busy doing other things, such as bargain hunting, and of course, there is the husband and dog to look after as well as the cleaning, exercising and washing and keeping the house tidy. I don't seem to have much time to post. However, its all going well. I am on track.

This morning, I made myself a gorgeous egg mayo for work. I sliced 4 eggs, poured mayo over the top and i'm still full!

Looking forward to grilled fish tonight, with a sneaky spoon of mushy peas. Husband will have chips with his. Hope all are well.
