Hi everyone. I am one very happy bunny this morning
As have mentioned here I am eating low(er) carb mainly to get my diabetes blood sugar numbers under control. I have just come home from the hospital after seeing my diabetes specialist and he has sent me home with a BIG pat on the back:D:D My HbA1c results have come back at 7.1 (last time they were 11.1) so he was very pleased. I asked him what a normal non diabetic result is and he said around 5 so that pleased me too.
Also he said I had lost a stone in weightI was pleased with this to because I have very limited mobility.
He dictated a letter to my GP which included the fact I was watching my carb intake. To me it seems doctors realise the benefits of eating low carb, but daren't actually suggest this in a direct way, more so the nurses at the general diabetic clinic.
Anyhow he said I'm definately doing something right and suggests I carry on doing the same.0 -

Another rainy day. Trying to be good but having family problems and people are a bit down. Can't afford to put on weight so will try to keep on an even keel this week0 -

Well, these carb contents have puzzled me so i dug out 'the bible' from my study days (McCance and Widowsons The Composition of foods) to get the officially tested/proven results, and have since updated the list.
Apart from onions and tomatoes everything decreases in carb value when cooked, and interestingly frozen veg carb values are even less - frozen petit pois especially so.

I've taken you off ignore so that I can see what you're posting and correct your suggestions.
This is a support thread for people following a variety of low carbohydrate diets.
I don't dispute that parsnips are a good source of many wonderful things but they are also high in carbs and therefore unsuited to the majority of people here who are actively trying to reduce their intake. For instance other sources of potassium include mushrooms, coconut, herbs, cocoa, avocados, tuna or even artichoke hearts, are all better suited to a low-carb diet. If you had 'honestly' wanted to provide helpful support you could have suggested those.
Your suggestions and criticisms don't even recognise that some of us follow a low-carb lifestyle for medical reasons, it is particularly well suited to diabetics. Your suggestions would actually impair these poeple's health rather than improve it. All for the sake of you having a bit of fun goading and misleading people.
You neither follow this kind of diet nor offer support suited to it. Your posts either criticise our choices or knowingly make suggestions which do not fit with our chosen lifestyles. So I suggest you take your own advice as you have no 'honest' reason to continue posting here.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Useful and interesting books - for simplicity's sake the links all go to Amazon so it's easy to find the book but I would suggest trying charity shops for the main titles, your local library and googling to see if you can get a better price. I must say to anyone doubting this woe, surely my Blood glucose results (as a diabetic) speak for themselves. In my days of eating a high fibre ....jacket spuds, brown rice/pasta, low fat type foods......no way could I ever get my bloods under control, so like the specialist told me today, I must be doing something right. My cholesterol is either 2 or 3 point something too.0 -

Hi all. Not had much time free (a good thing tbh). Getting up early, doing about 30 minutes on the ex bike, trying to manage a little bit of weights, going to work, coming home, cooking dinner, making lunch for next day, having shower, etc. etc. But all going well. Job is busy and not my cup of tea (reception), but its only for one week. Then next week I start new one.
Low carbing going well. Have made a chicken salad with chicken left over from roast on sunday. Tonight, having meatballs. He will have spag with his, I will just have sliced beans,and cabbage. Waves to all. x
