Mercy - I've baked beetroots before and they're lovely. I do them with their skins on and then slip them off once cooked, otherwise I find they 'bleed' into everything.

Thanks for that tip, sweetie! I'm looking forward to trying them :D

Forgot to say they're lovely with 0% Greek yoghurt mixed with either mint or horseradish.

Beetroot is also nice with feta and salad. The sweetness offsets the saltiness in the feta.

sweet - the way I see it we only hurt the ones we love and my daughter has always used me as a whipping post. However she recently admitted, in a rare moment of forgetfullness, that I am the only person who has always been there for her :D
  • I thought beetroot was a no no as it had loads of natural sugar? Or am I wrong and I can eat it? :j

Beetroot has 7.4g of carb per 100g. Whether you can eat it or not will depend on what plan you are following, what else you eat and how much you have.

Hi all, I hope you don't mind me popping my head in :D

Have struggled with my weight for YEARS and had a bit of a kick last autumn and shifted 10lbs but still have a long way to go, as you can see from my sig I am getting hitched next year and would like to lose a decent amount of weight (I am 5'3" and 13st 7lbs ).

I also have suspected PCOS and my gynae suggested lowering my carb intake to help negate some of the side effects of that, this was about 6/7 years ago though! I did lose 2.5 stone back then but I changed jobs and it's crept back on...anyway, sorry, am rambling!

Carbs are my REAL weak spot, toast, crisps, rice, potatoes....all my favourite foods :o. The one thing that really worked for me last time was cutting down on carbs, not excluding them completely but just having smaller portions and not having them for b/l/d everyday. That's what I am hoping to do this time around but I do struggle because I am a semi-fussy eater - no salad (at all) which whittles down the options a fair bit. I am getting there on the exercising front and am currently doing 2 Zumba sessions a week, will be 3 when my Sunday class starts back up and hoping to do an induction at the work place gym later this week, thinking about giving the C25k a go at some point soon.

Anyway, will be reading back through to try and get some good ideas for lunch/breakfast and snacks but feel free to throw some at me :rotfl:

    Hi Jody and welcome

May I recommend stocking your fridge with a mix of cooked sausages (I like the black farmer ones), frittatas (crustless quiche), Mexican fudge, fridge raiders and hard boiled eggs. If there's always a low carb snack to hand it's far easier to avoid being naughty. You'll find a link to recipes on page 1.

The Maldives are lovely, I've been there three times and would go back like a shot if I could. Happy memories :D

  • Hello everyone :hello:

Welcome jtr & good luck :D

Problem after problem this morning & I have the headache to prove it.

    Meals for today:

    B1 - greek yoghurt & flaxseed
B2 - scramblies & vine tomato (not had yet - going to do in a minute)
L - 2 buttered GG crispbreads with cheese savoury (just had them as nice & quick)
D - chilli (without kidney beans), cauli rice, baby sprouts, green beans

No exercise done yet but will try for at least 1 x 20 minute walk later & some wall push-ups.

SHEILA, makes me wonder if my carbs are too low if you're feeling drained on a lower carb amount?? I don't mean to be low, but I don't count my carbs, just have a rough idea.
Hope the DGD has behaved herself for you :)

Off to make my scramblies now before I faint of hunger!! :o:wave:

Thanks for the fridge tips! Unfortunately I dont do eggs either so thats another option gone but the cooked sausages are a great tip, thats actually what I ended up eating yesterday before I had even decided to go low carb.

April will be out third trip to the Maldives, we went last may, this June and re-booked for April within a week of being back, we were supposed to be getting married next September but decided to bring it forward so April became honeymoon, I cant wait!

Going to try and start excluding high level carbs from lunch as thats the one I find the easiest, so no bread rolls or crisp, cereal bars etc. Did have slice of toast for breakfast but just had a pack of Bernard Matthews BBQ turkey for lunch with some exotic fruit salad. Need to keep an eye on the high carb fruits from now on too but thinking ill start slowly and see how it goes and how I feel.

Are natural nuts ok ish? Like cashews?

Still looking after DGD but it is going ok.

My brother is coming out of hospital today. :j I still don't know if it worked but hope to soon. Thanks for everyone's thoughts and kind wishes.

I lost the 4lb last week that I had put on over the summer so the bad mood is worth it. Might also have been stress. I will continue this week and see if I can break the barrier that I have been trying for ages as I am now 6 stone 8lb down. I still want to lose another couple of stone so must do something.

jtr2803 - if you don't like eggs then I keep cheese, avocado, fish and nuts on reserve. Nuts vary but as long as you don't eat great handfuls a few are ok each day e.g. 1 tablespoon
