My head feels a little woozy this morning, as if I'm not quite there, iyswim??
andrewsmum, can I ask what measurement dsp is, please?? I read it as dablespoon!!
Also, do you grind your own flaxseed??
Sorry Sweet 1 dsp = 1 desertspoon
I buy my flaxseed already ground from Holland and Barret.
Sheila, I have never tried those with added berries etc, is there much difference in the carb values ?
I see you (Sheila) posted Asda sell it. Unfortunately I shop online at Mr T and when I did a search, they don't seem to sell it0 -
Morning all.
Sheila, if you want to be virtuous, replace 10-15% of the ground almonds in my chocolate cake recipe with your flax mix. I've been doing this with another one of their (H &variations and it works well.
Re press-ups, 25 is good, so as I mentioned before if you can do 25 you should be doing floor ones - they would also be easier on your neck. Go down to window sill height, if you can still do 20, then go a bit further down. The other option is to stand a bit further away from the wall - far enough away that your heels come off the floor - and go from there. How many are you increasing by week on week? Keep up the good work.
Come on JO, I'm going to have to get another poem on the go! :j See, started already
Sweet, if I can reply for Marbett re Haloumi. It's best on the barbe with a bit of smokiness, but it can be grilled or fried just until it starts to go soft and gets a bit of colour. Best eaten warm with lamb and cooked toms (IMHO), it takes a marinade really well as well.
My husband is working away right through the bank hols till next sunday - great- so I think I'll be out for a long walk - well, route march actually - whilst the sun is out. Roll-on moving so we can get a dog. I used to say there was no point in walking without a dog, living 1/2 mile from town has cured that, but it just isn't the same.
Don't know if anyone wants a quiche recipe? This has become quite a favourite, I haven't got weights for anything as I do it by sight. Look out for prawns on reduction, where I shop that's pretty much 3-4x week, broccoli/spinach would also work well. I add S & P to the base, but chopped herbs/other flavourings could also be added. The recipe suits a 7" cake tin (loose bottom) which I line with foil from the underside so it lifts out easily.
Prawn and asparagus quiche.
Base of ground almonds (150g-ish) mixed with melted butter.
Around 10 asparagus spears, chopped and blanched or microwaved for a couple of minutes.
Approx 2/3 pack prawns, pressed between a couple of slices of kitchen towel to remove a lot of the water.
1/2 med onion, chopped
garlic to taste
chilli to taste (i used 1/2 red) - optional
2 rashers smoked streaky bacon or pancetta - finely chopped
approx teaspoon thyme
1 egg, 1 egg yolk
6 fl oz double cream (or combo of pl greek yog or soured cream)
Melt fat and almonds (+ any seasoning) together until they are completely coated and coming together. Press into tin to form a base (no sides) and cook at 170 for 20/25 mins (top should be only slightly colouring). Allow to cool, then chill while you make the mix.
Fry bacon, until it starts to colour, add onion, chilli, a couple of mins later add garlic and thyme, fry for approx 5 mins. Mix in cooked prawns and asparagus to gently warm and take on the flavours. Distribute ingredients as evenly as poss on base.
Add the eggs to the cream mixture, add S & P, mix til combined and pour over ingredients. Bake for 35 mins at 180, until just set (check after 30 mins), allow to cool before removing from tin.
N.B. Re base, if you add an egg white (the spare one) after mixing in the butter, it is less crumbly and more pastry-like. (!!!!! the bottom with a fork as it will rise.)
......................
If you took notice of my b.squash soup recipe, you might notice it has the same basic ingredients, I did it at the same time, as it's a good way not to waste anything. This would make 3 a good lunch/dinner with a big leaf salad, or 2 for dinner with a couple of snack portions or light lunch, or 4 for lunch. Add coleslaw, or new potatoes for 'the others.'
Right, I think I've gone on long enough, BFN :wave:0 -
alias, maybe 'The Weather Girls' would be more appropriate!! C'mon, sing it with me... Hallelujah, it's raining men!! :rotfl: I was reading on Google that they were also known as 'Two Tons O' Fun' :rotfl:
I know what you mean about the motivation has to come from within (you old hippy you!!) so truly hope you can get your head in the right place asap. Yeah man. Peace and love.
SHEILA & andrewsmum, feel a bit silly now re. the dspThanks both for clearing that up - told you my head was a bit woozy this morning!!
Holland & Barrett are having a 'buy one, get one half price' sale atm, so the Linwoods flaxseed you (SHEILA) buy is £8.83 for 2 packets & they have plain milled flaxseed for £7.48 for 2 packets. I'm going to go in on Tuesday to buy some.
Btw, could the cheese scone recipe have the milled flaxseed instead of ground almonds, or perhaps a mix of the two??
Jerry, another Corrie fan hereHave to say I'm hating the Gary & Izzy storyline!!
sister, it must be so exciting getting DD1 prepared for Uni - will she be living away from home then??
murphy, just so happens we're having a bbq tonight, so will give the haloumi a go, thanks. I can't wait to try it :j
Just had some leftover buttery cauli & broc florets pan-fried with my lunch - it was lush so will make a point of doing that again.
One more thingLooks like the Pataks paste BOGOF deal at Mr. T has ended. I bought their own 'Finest' tikka paste & I'm going to marinate some chicken chunks to be made into kebabs & bbqd later

alias - you are right as nobody can do it but you and you have to be in the right frame of mind. However we can help and encourage you
Well I have resisted the chocolate cake so far but may try your recipe murphydog as I really fancy something nice and it has to be better than the 40.8g carb per 10th piece on the side.
Thanks for the info sweet, I will get some more tomorrow. Why not give them a try with flax and let us know, maybe 20% flax at first as it has a strong flavour.
andrewsmum, murphydog - great recipes, I want to try them all
andrewsmum - you can compare all of the varieties here
http://www.linwoodshealthfoods.com/list/2/0/product_list.aspx
My one is 1.15g carbohydrate per 15g instead of 0.5g, so very little different and it tastes really nice.
Jerry - nearly a week cig free, well done !
Mercy - what are you getting up to over the bank holiday?
murphydog - I will try to do the push ups on the windowsill but have been quite a way from the wall, enough to cause me to go on tiptoes and give myself sciatica. Enough moaning, it is too nice a dayI am trying to increase by 5 every 1-2 weeks. I have awful thigh cellulite and a big roll of flab on abdomen - any ideas that won't make my back worse, you lovely lady x
sistercas - it is hard when our loved ones leave home but uni gives them plenty of holidays and she will appreciate you and what you do for her much more, I promise.
breakfast - yogurt with flax/ seed mixture, 1 almond pancake with 45g raspberries and cream
lunch - half avocado, cheese, coleslaw, 2 pieces 74% chocolate and handful nuts
dinner - cottage pie with cauliflower mash and vegetables
I will make chocolate cakes re murphydog and cheese scones for later and try to not eat too many. I need something to take to housewarming tomorrow though I think that my son is planning a barbecue. I will be providing salad, potato salad and rice salad so need something to stop me picking! Be prepared, where have I heard that before0 -
sweetserendipity wrote: »daska, my family are so fussy sometimes, it's maddening!! Neither of my DDs will eat mince now. I'm actually thinking of trying braising or stewing steak instead to make cottage pie, chilli etc., not sure if it would work with lasagne as well??
I don't see why that wouldn't work, obviously the main issue will be getting the sauce thick enough.sweetserendipity wrote: »Can I ask what you use to make the garam masala or herbs stick to the celeriac chips??Also, how long do you put them in the oven for & at what temperature??
erm... very hot until they're looking well done or in danger of causing a meltdown because everyone's hungry and has been waiting for far too long...
and a bit of goose fat, I warm it just enough that it's liquid so it can coat the chipsEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Have had a good day. Just remembered its a bank holiday tomorrow so no need to make DH's sandwiches. I've been to my mother in law's house and got loads and loads of fresh mint.. Going to now go and make a mint chutney. I have been craving it.
Breakfast today went from sausages and tomatoes to the full english! I'm still full!
Still not caught up with corrie.
Sweets: I too, don't like the izzy and whatsisname storyline. I wish they would get rid of the following: Kirsty (tyrone's dreadful gf). That awful Fireman who is going out with Eileen and Izzy's boyfriend and that gambling cheating rat who has just moved in with Suneeta.
Love all the other characters. Especially the funny ones. Corrie very often makes me laugh out loud.
Have a great evening, i've already made the stuffing for tonight's roast, using ground almonds, lots of herbs and an egg.0 -
Urgh, the morning after the night before _pale_:o
Too much wine consumedbut managed to stick with LC food. Two more peeps invited themselves to the bbq so I didn't have a burger (as there wasn't enough to go round) but had a LC Cumberland sausage instead - would have had 2 but hubby pinched the second one!!
Haloumi went down well with everyone (weird squeaky teeth when eating it though). Tikka kebabs were lovely - I'm so glad I didn't use the dsp (;)) of tikka paste to marinate the chicken chunks as I was going to though, as a little bit went a long way!! I also made myself a big field mushroom with cottage cheese & red pepper on top, which was ok.
Today I'll be having (or could that be heaving _pale_:o)
B - 2 or 3 piggies in blankets with 2 fried eggs (if my stomach can handle it...)
L - 2 buttered GG crispbreads with cheese savoury, maybe with small side salad & couple of cherry toms (drizzled in EVOO)
D - salmon in watercress sauce, cheesy cauli mash, buttery leeks & broccoli
That's the plan anyway...0
