Sweaty Betty congratulations on your fantastic loss :-)
Just had cooked chopped spinach with Thai green curry paste and 2 boiled eggs for lunch - looked like "white rocks in a swamp" but tasted fantastic!
I've put a basic "about me " up on my profile so anyone who is interested can have a quick read of how and why I got here.
gurgle gurgle splot!

ivor the engine was my favorite of all timebut I was quite keen on noggin the nog as well, I really identified with nogbad LOL

Thought I should check in because it's been a while although I have been lurking when I've gotten the chance. Hope everyone is doing well, and thanks for the giggles on the last few pages. :rotfl:
I haven't been posting too much because I did try reducing my carbs more (so you don't have to hunt my last post down, I have 50-100g per day) but found it really didn't agree with me. So I think my body naturally prefers being on the higher end of low carb. It definitely reacts badly to sugar though, I had just a couple of jelly sweets at the weekend and felt awful. I guess my diet is technically low sugar rather than low carb now, although the two often go together.
Anyway, wanted to update as I've now lost 20lbs. It was down 21 (3/4 of the way to first goal of 2 stone!) on Thursday but put 1lb back on over the weekend - almost certain it's just water due to the heat. Hoping to see my true weight soon now that it's starting to cool down. The jeans I bought after my first half stone loss are already too big though, which is a great feeling. Still in the same top size but I am pear shaped, so losing mainly from the bottom half is very welcome.0 -
LondonDreamer - well done, if staying higher on the carb ladder works for you then great :T
daska - Thanks. I know what you mean about IP diet as there are some inconsistencies to what I have been doing for the past 14 months. I have been static around the same few pounds for a while now and would like to see a bit more loss before the end of the year. I know that I have gone off track a little recently but nothing major so it is frustrating.
I remember the Clangers, Ivor the Engine and Noggin the Nog but I was actually brought up on Picture Book, Andy Pandy (Old style), Bill and Ben (Old Style), Rag, Tag and Bobtail and the Wooden tops. Anyone remember them? Shows how old I am, born in 1950 and a teenager in the 60's. Great time to be young.
I have always had weight problems except when I was 19 and wanted to go on holiday. I stuck to 500 cals a day for 6 months to get to my ideal weight and then put on nearly 2 stone in 2 weeks whilst on holiday!!!
Love you all and thanks for making this thread fun and informative x0 -
This thread gets crazier by the minute
Great to know that everyone is as normal as me.
Sure is Sheila!:DAudreyHepburn wrote: »- I'm sat typing with a low carb crayon (not allowed anything sharp) up each nostril muttering *wibble*.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:.......many, MANY thanks for the belly laughs for this...it sure does a body/soul good !!!One of my favourite pastimes is to skip down the road singing follow the yellow brick road, singing in the rain ( waving umbrella) or similar but only when my children / grandchildren are present as they get so embarrassed

Skymist - I know that we are of a similar age so what do you get up to?0

Hi everyone.
We survived camping in Cornwall and I'm not mentioning about the food, because I'm not!!!:o
I've loved reading back over the pages I've missed, such fun to reminisce-who remembers the Flumps!!! Pootle was my favourite.
I've discovered that as I've nearly reached my weightloss target, that I've been less disciplined about not eating carbs, and each day it seems to slip more. Therefore I've come to the conclusion that I need to maintain the LC way of eating all the time and not think that I could have a slice of bread, or chocolate(apart form the 85%)etc. I may still eat potatoes sometimes, but I think that may be ok. Otherwise, I'm still gonna avoid the grains/rice and sugars. I may allow more variety of fruit too.
Hope everyone keeps moving forward, even if only tiny steps.xx0 -
Some good inspiring results coming in, well done everyone - there should be a 'pat on the back' emoticon, until then :T :T I think I'll wait until November, when I started, to publish anything.
Avstar has been conspicuous by her absence recently - are you lurking?
I've devised a short and (not-so) sweet circuit-HIT-type routine that's really good, if anyone is interested (perhaps Mr and Mrs G / Avstar?)
In case anyone is interested our survey went ok, he thinks we've got a bargain (I daren't think it, but secretly couldn't believe it) just waiting on the bank now.
Sheila, was thinking of you whilst reading The Art and Science of Low Carb living, by 2 doctors Volek and Finney. It's not a bed-time reading book by any means, it goes in-depth into the body's mechanisms with LC, and there is a very good explanation of what happens to cholesterol (and readings) once people have lost a lot of weight (i.e. a couple of stone).
There is a whole chapter on it, and I've just been trying to find the relevant passages, but it would take ages and might be misleading in bits. Suffice to say, after a big weight loss there will be a lot of extra cholesterol slushing about, that will take time to process and this can create temporarily high readings. On amazon you can look inside the book, it might be worth checking out.
I used to love The Clangers, how sweet and gentle they were0 -
Well Sheila, as I've said before, most of my friends have climed that stairway to heaven, and so, being on my own, and not wanting my brain to fall down any black holes, I pursue rabbit holes instead, by overindulging myself with my eyes glued to my laptop for many, MANY hours a day, reading about the latest news/developments in everything that interests me!!:rotfl:
No longer having any one to be responsible for....although I'm about to become a granny:eek:, but my son lives in New Zealand......I am...at last ...able to be selfish and do what I want, when I want!!!
I've always been interested in diet/health etc. and along came the internet with all the amazing stuff to read and knowledge to be gleaned, so I spend my days ..... when not out shopping/strolling/house-cleaning....doing what I love, learning! I often wonder what life would have been like for me now at 62 without the https://www....I'd have probably jumped off a cliff from boredom..... I've always been an avid reader, but libraries don't always have the lattest up-to-date/cutting edge books, or you have to wait for them to come in!! With the internet, I never know where my days are going to go nor where my researching will take me!:rotfl:
I also watch tv series/films, read newspapers, interact on a couple forums, all online .....so I fill my head daily...and this makes me VERY happy, and hopefully keeps me young too!!!

Weebles! Pffft!
Anyone remember Camberwick Green? :rotfl:
I used to be fascinated at the way the jewellery box opened.:D
Of course, it was the re-runs I caught. :rotfl:
Well done to the loser peeps, iyswim. :THerman - MP for all!0 -
Well done sweaty betty :T
I have wondered whether to change to Idiot Proof for a while but they advocate soy milk and I can't have it. They also don't seem to use yogurt. Any advice please?
Thank you
I haven't bothered with soy milk to be honest. I have double cream in my coffee and a tiny bit of regular milk in my tea, but only have 1-2 cups per day so I figured I'm probably safe (i.e. within the IPD rules) doing this.
For cooking I've mainly used a combination of double cream and water (watered-down cream, if you like). I wouldn't be that keen to drink it but it works a treat in recipes etc.
Hope this helps.0
