Alias, I know just what you mean about 'just stopping at one' .. I just can't calorie count. Carbs for breakfast, no matter how 'good' they are (porridge, rye bread, fruit salad etc) sends me on a downward spiral for the day, not only that I am permanently hungry and it drives me to distraction. If I have a bowl of weetabix at 8 a.m by 11 a.m, I'm raiding the kids chocolate stash, baking cupcakes and taking random bites out of just about anything I can find!
On a positive note ...Behold, the wagon is in sight! I can just about see it on the horizon, if I put my trainers on now and start jogging, I'll have caught it up and be ready to jump back on it by morning! Spent last night reading some of my nutrition books and making some notes, getting back in the mindset, as it were. So far today I've took my supplements, drank my water, had one cup of black coffee and a couple of fried eggs so I'm doing ok so far, even though I've not made it 'official' yet.
Not sure about lunch as I'm taking the children out today but dinner is Vietnamese chicken salad or Salad Nicoise (sans spuds).
Have a good day everyone x
* Oh and I confess to a small bar of galaxy last night (whilst reading my nutrition books :rotfl:0 -
IIRC he got banned, presumably because of his outspoken 'medical' advice - (seemed more like informed common sense to me). But hence my often qualifying things rather than stating them as outright facts, if you find me making absolute statements please pull me up on them as I'd quite like to keep coming back
I got loads of good info from Ted, I was really disappointed when he got banned.
You're not posting anything other than interesting info so nowt to pull you up about imo.
Psssst....it's ok,we'll hide you.Herman - MP for all!0 -

I know exactly what you mean cherrypies. I'm struggling to get back on the wagon following the last 3 weeks where I've been distinctly lax about what I've been eating. I've not put on huge amounts of weight - 3lb since the end of last term - but I need to rein in what I'm eating. BUT...! Eating 'badly' (for me) has been interesting and useful experience. Yesterday one of my carers commented that she hadn't seen my feet looking so blue for several weeks and, yes, I realised I hadn't either. And thinking about the other symptoms I used to live with on a daily basis it's obvious that some are dramatically reduced (e.g. the permanent hunger when eating high carb) and some, mainly the pain/gastric problems are less so. So it's not been a complete waste of time, it really has demonstrated to me that there are tangible improvements to my general health as well as specific aspects of it.
So today I've had a large glass of water and a cup of tea (with raw milk of course LOL)Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

This thread gets crazier by the minute
Great to know that everyone is as normal as me. One of my favourite pastimes is to skip down the road singing follow the yellow brick road, singing in the rain ( waving umbrella) or similar but only when my children / grandchildren are present as they get so embarrassed
murphydog - why not on the same plate with mayo on the side?
daska, cherrypies - I have been a bit up and down over the holidays as well as I have to eat out / improvise more. We can get back on track soon and help each other to stick to it. I am also reading books to keep me on track. Try the Idiot proofs guide I mentioned earlier - good sound advice and funny as well.
AudreyHepburn, alias - are you too young to remember the weebles?
mazzers - you have done really well and deserve a pat on the back. Glad that your knees are better
nuttybabe - well done, 4lb is great :j
Better so far today
breakfast - slice gouda cheese, small handful nuts, small bowl yogurt with flax / seeds
snack - 2 squares 70% chocolate
lunch - half avocado, prawns and mayo, cucumber
dinner - stuffed mushrooms with courgettes, onion, toms and cheese
snack - almond pancake, few raspberries, cream
2 coffees, 1 decaff, tea and water
Have a great day!!!0 -
Hello all - just delurking to say that I'm celebrating 1 year low carb this week!
I'm a bit of an extremist (I have diabetes so have the extra incentive of improving blood sugars to reduce the chances of blindness, foot amputation and all the other good stuff that might be in store for me) and have been on the Idiot Proof Diet phase 1 for this time and lost over 3 stone.
Hoping to lose another stone to get me into the "overweight" BMI (rather than "obese") - preferably before Christmas:)0 -
Well done sweaty betty :T
I have wondered whether to change to Idiot Proof for a while but they advocate soy milk and I can't have it. They also don't seem to use yogurt. Any advice please?0 -

Congratulations on the duration and the loss. :T:T:T
Sheila - I have a copy of the IPD but TBH while it is undoubtedly funny and easy to read/ understand/ follow I found it very frustrating that they obviously hadn't bothered with the scientific aspect at all. e.g. there's no mention (that I saw) of using salt to counter the side-effects. The recipe aspect of it is brilliant though. I'd think I'd use it as an adjunct rather than a sole source of info, quite possibly they don't use yoghourt because they don't understand the carbs and use soy because they aren't aware that it's one of the top allergens. Use it as another weapon in your arsenal.
I also have two wheatfree cracker recommendations:
1. Nairn's Cheese Oatcakes (orange box) are 3.7g each and
2. FinnCrisp Sesame (which are basically rye) are 3.2g each - personally I like these, you get more in a box, they're very crispy and they have a larger surface area that you can load with yummyness
Not for pigging out on obviously but nice as a change - and I think they're both available at Tesco as wellEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I see your Weebles and raise you The Clangers!
Sweaty Betty congratulations on your fantastic loss :-)
Just had cooked chopped spinach with Thai green curry paste and 2 boiled eggs for lunch - looked like "white rocks in a swamp" but tasted fantastic!
I've put a basic "about me " up on my profile so anyone who is interested can have a quick read of how and why I got here.
Sorry can't post bio on profile so will have to bore you all here!
I was born in 1963’s and stayed slim into my 30’s through running at least 30 miles a week in my 30’s. Unfortunately this was done on a low protein veggie/ bordering in vegan diet and the stress of being miserable at home which meant I was happier wasting my muscle mass away at the gym.
By my mid thirties I was had painful knees and hips and spine due to lack of muscular support, quit all exercise, and was on the path to orthopaedic surgery and damaged kidneys due to the amount of aspirin I needed to control the pain.
I also developed a major biscuit binge habit as the carb. induced lethargy gave me some extra pain relief and put on about 4 stone.
I found a physio who gave me exercises to start rebuilding the support muscles, then was able to start weight training to further improve the situation.
I am now 99% pain free, with a wonderful new husband – just have about a stone left to lose to get back to my “happy” weight and want to banish the binge monster and eat well enough to stay strong and healthy.
I still weight train twice a week, and have recently started a weekly aerobics class for the fun of leaping around to music.
Audrey Hepburn is my mother’s maiden name by the way - I take my looks form Mum, not THE Audrey!0
