Hello to all you lovely people!!! I have been lurking on this thread for what seems like an age, and I have read all of this and the original Atkins one too, I started low carbing 10 weeks ago and I have lost a stone so far, I have not done much excercise really and need to address this but on a happier note I have found it very easy to adapt to this way of eating, living in London helps as I am able to get to many shops that sell some of the food that others may find it difficult to get hold of, I have found the local halal butchers that stock groceries too great for getting hold of coconut oil ( I buy the KTC brand in a 500ml jar for £1.99) Linseed (Tropical Sun brand in 100g packets for 59p) much cheaper than the supermarkets etc, In fact I buy a box of 20 at a time, they order it for me, then I grind 2 packets up at a time to make flatbread, which goes in the fridge once baked and I use it up over 3 days, which works out well.I also buy almond and coconut flour in quite large packs there which are great for other baking recipes. I too use Lidl for the 10% Greek Yoghurt and the double cream!!!! That and the cheap choccie digestives for DH and sons (booo!!) Oh, Jerryjerryjerry I found that using two cougettes sliced into stripsand fried in olive oil a great alternative to spaghetti, the recipe is on the recipes at the front of the thread I think, looking forward to sharing the highs and lows with you all now that things have settled down on this thread.:T0

Jerry, do you still have all your teeth intact after eating those pork scratchings?! :rotfl:
I didn't realise the greek yoghurt would be so thick - looked like soft cheese but tasted ok, had it with strawberries. I'm not sure I would buy the Lidl big bucket now though.
Doh, silly me, yes I've had guacamole, forgot it was made with avocado  I'll still buy one to try 'au naturel', 59p is a good price.
Going to have a coffee now with some almonds to munch on, will try not to open another bottle of wine tonight...0 -
Welcome to the thread, Mrs Huggett & a huge WELL DONE on losing a stone - that's fantastic!! :T0

Ha! Funny you should mention my teeth. I have to admit, I was worried. They were very very crunchy and hard. But soo tasty.
I have a large tub of greek style yoghurt from Lidl in the fridge and i love it. I've also today gone and bought an avacado - its hard so it will sit in the fruit bowl next to OH's bananas... till ripe. This thread gives me great ideas. I had forgotten all about avacados.
I also bought 2 cans of mackerel in oil from Lidl which were only 59 pence each.. not bad for a week-day supper.
I like to mash the mackerel up in some cream cheese and eat celery dipped into that. its amazing.
Bought loads of vine tomatoes as they were half price and some lettuce.. so that will keep me going this week.
I am trying not to drink any vodka tonight, even though the OH is in the kitchen drinking beer! its my main weekness!
Have a great evening everybody.0 -

Hmmm. I will give the courgettes a go. I love courgettes! I also love Lidl and I only live 10 mins walk from one! I've had those cheap digestives and they're so gorgeous.
Well done on your fantastic weight loss.
I am going to go in search of cheap almond flour next week. I went to Asda on Friday and a small, incey wincy tiny little bag was priced at 1.29 or something like that. So i didn't buy.
I feel a bit bloated this evening. Have had a Pesi max. I'm not going to get myself worried till wednesday.. when I will be weighing myself for week 2 of my diet!0 -
Hi all
It was all going well until, while out, DH wanted to go to have a coffee and cake. We went into Waitrose in Westfield and I capitulated and had a cake too, lemon cheesecake, hope that the fact it did not have pastry made it a bit less damaging. For the rest of he day it went ok, but I am disappointed with myself for giving in to my sugar craving. Should have bought a chunk of cheese instead!
Tomorrow is another day, though!
Slight problem with my back means I cannot workout for a few days so need to be extra vigilant with my eating. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Mrs Huggett - hi and welcome. Sounds like you are doing well already :T
Temptation is all around us, believe me I know, so it helps to have an idea of a substitute if possible. I love cake, pudding and cheesecake so carry round dark chocolate and nuts just in case.
Ground almonds are pretty standard at £1.99 for 100g. If you get the smaller 50g bag from Aldi / Lidl then be aware that they are not so finely ground. You can get bigger bags from specialist stores or online.
