I've been lurking on three other forums and found by observation, that no matter what the diet, way of eating or ethos of the forum, it seems that the forums always always deviate from the ideals.
Isn't that simply because the forums are posted on by humans and therefore subject to the various influences that surround us? I suspect you'd have to be a fairly robotic type of person to always stick to the ideals. Nothing wrong in that, but I don't think the majority of society is made like that.
So I'll leave you to your cakes while I go eat my prosciutto crudo and organic salad.
Edwardia < very nearly size 12
You really are a piece of work. Your last comments were totally unnecessary.
Edited to sign off.....

Carbs are so insidious in our society, that many people find it impossible to handle a zero carb or low carb diet. They have to resort to lower carb breads, pizzas, muffins, cakes etc.
I grew up on home-made bread, pies, cakes etc but the kind that can be bought now in supermarkets are completely different.
I no longer eat or need potatoes in any shape or form, and I don't eat pizzas, muffins, cakes or biscuits. I find it hard to resist the GI bread that our local baker makes fresh every night. You have to get there early or he's sold out. Last time DH went there he asked the baker how his cakes compared with Mr Kipling's 'exceedingly good cakes' which are widely-advertised? DH said he thought the baker was going to explode on the spot. 'You just take a look at the additives that are listed on the packet - I don't put ANY additives into anything that I bake'.
So if you have a local baker, use him or lose him. Even so, I limit myself to one slice of bread a day, no more.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I've just mashed a few frozen raspberries and blueberries into a small bowl of double cream, added a couple drops of vanilla extract and gobbled it straight down.
Not quite the right consistency for ice cream, but all the flavour
I don't reckon it too high carb, but if we're doing smug....I'm a size 8 now too0 -
Hi
You all put me to shame, size 8 - 12 when I am a size 18 but I was never less than a size 14 at my ideal weight, 40+ years go, so size 18 is ok to me. (Was a size 28 last June). If I can get to a size 14 - 16 again I will be happy.
Had blood tests today so will wait and see.
We all have our good and bad days, try to eat healthily within budget, but all people on a diet different from others can become self righteous and boring if they are not careful. That is why this thread is so good as we understand and encourage each other whilst having a bit of a laugh as well
breakfast (late) - 3 egg omelette with gruyere cheese and ham
lunch - avocado half with cucumber, tuna and mayo
Have a great day0 -
Edwardia, it seems that you are intent on stirring.
I've stayed out of things so far, but your last post made me feel so sad and actually quite sorry for you.
We are all at different places along our journey towards good/healthy eating, the point is that we are all moving the right way to the goal.
This is a great forum and everyone is so supportive, its obvious that you've moved away from us.Please leave the sarcastic comments-they don't belong here.0 -

Even if you're never a size 8, this is an amazing achievement. :T
I've resisted getting into the argument myself as well. But I think marrbett summed it up perfectly. And just for the record, a diet is considered low carb (according to Diabetes UK) if it's under 130g a day, not 30. The latter is considered "very low" carb. If that's achieveable in your diet, good for you. I'm happy with and seeing positive results from staying at around 50-100g per day (which is the recommended amount in Primal, the diet that my eating plan most resembles) and that's all that matters to me.
ETA for my own smugness- I also may never be a size 8, but I've lost 9lbs and a dress size in under a month. So I'm happy.

In no way have you been put to shame (sorry if I made you feel like that). Your achievement is much, much greater than mine. You have done fantastically well :T:T:T I'm convinced you'll get to be exactly where you want to be
Good luck with your blood test results :A0 -
The point we're all making is no matter what size you were, or are now, we're all trying to make healthier choices and support each other. :j
Low carb for me isn't just about weight loss, its about feeling healthier, avoiding a lot of the health complications associated with a modern Western diet, avoiding that woolly headed carb feeling and the faint fizzyness I got from blood sugar spikes and lows. I won't be giving up my low carb clean eating because I've reached target weight/dress size, it's much more than that to me x0 -
I don't feel bad, though thanks for your support, as we come in all shapes and sizes. My point is that it is what we want to achieve and how we want to do it. Low carb is indeed open to interpretation which is why I think that Dukan still fits in the low carb framework, albeit that it is low fat as well. I say this in deference to those who are following Dukan but feel unable to post as it does not follow the high fat low carb guidelines. Medically anything below 150g carbs is classified as low carb.
I will admit to having the occasional small bowl of porridge (throw hands up in horror and very Dukan orientated), but just count it within my 50 carb allowance. I hope to be able to increase the allowance to 80/100 when I get where I want to be but realise that there will always be restrictions. Personally I think that if we are going to make this a lifetime choice then we need to have what we fancy sometimes and not be so regimented.0 -
Hello again :hello:
It's lovely to see so many old faces still posting on here & plenty of newbies too - I do recognise a few namesI have lots of catching up to do & lots of pages to read. Tis nice to be remembered though
alias, I can be your [STRIKE]partner in crime[/STRIKE] ally if you like, although I'm going to really try & keep out of the naughty corner this time
Try drinking a small amount of tonic water or bitter lemon - you're looking for the stuff with quinine in it - about a small wineglass
Isn't that an oxymoron?! :rotfl:
If you don't like it think of it as medicine give it a good stir and let it sit for a bit to reduce the bubbles then neck it. If you do like it stick some gin in and enjoy
Love it, this made me laugh out loud!! :T:rotfl:
Well, I've started lcing today - creamy scrambled eggs & pork steaks for brekkie & GG crispbreads with salmon mayo on for lunch. I'm thinking of having a fake macaroni cheese for dinner - basically grated cauli replacing the pasta?? I'm wondering if mixing a beaten egg in with the creme fraiche cheese sauce & baking in the oven would work?? Or does that just sound ewwy?!
Anyway, that's enough waffle from me, hope everyone is doing well today. Happy LC days :wave:0
