Hello. Id love to join this helpful and informative thread if there is room for a medium sized one!

It has taken me over a week to get through all the previous posts and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. I started my very low carb diet last wed. I'm not attaching myself to any particular diet, just being as low carb as I can manage. So, a week on - I'm over the moon with results.

I weighed 10 stone 5 lbs last wed and today, I am 10 stone 1 lb.

Can't believe it. I have not yet missed carbs. However, on friday night, I had to use a lot of willpower as my husband made home made chips! I didn't even have one! SO proud of myself.

I want to get down to 9 stone. I am 5 foot 4. And this is the heaviest i've ever been.

Yesterday, I had eggs and smoked salmon (whoopsied to 50 pence) for Breakfast.

About 4 coffees decaf with cream - A large pot in Asda is 1 pound at the moment.

and chicken and brockoli stir fry with a dash of creame fresh for dinner.

I also had a handful of blueberries as snacks. Once these are gone, I wont buy more for a while, as I want to stay away from fruit for a bit longer after going through this thread.

Today, I plan to have a mushroom omelette with a grilled tomato.
and roast chicken with salad tonight.

My downfall is alcohol. Last week-end, I drank vodka with low cal tonic - but far more than is recommended. So I will have to watch that. I also find drinking water hard. Does drinking water in decaf coffee count? Some say it does, some say it doesn't.

    I'm in my early forties.

Oh, I also did 20 minutes on the exercise bike this morning for the first time in 10 months. I feel invigorated and motivated!

Of course there's room, we keep losing weight so we can fit more people in :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Welcome Jerry

Well done on the chips and yes, water in coffee does count, you'd die of drinking too much water flavoured with coffee just as easily as drinking it neat. It's just that coffee is a diuretic so you might need a little bit more - go by what your body tells you and if you think you're hungry have a drink first as it might only be the first indications of thirst. But it's funny how quickly you adapt if you put your mind to it - and you obviously have enough willpower if you can refuse home made chips

Sheila, I won't take statins because they can cause hair loss. They're not the be-all and end-all that NHS doctors are encouraged to think. They do have side-effects.

Saturated fats are also very arguable. The kind of fats that are the absolute no-no for anyone, are hydrogenated fats e.g. margarine or the kind found in the majority of processed foods. Read Zoe Harcombe on this topic.

Glad that everyone is doing well, apart from physical disabilities.
durham - mim - didn't you do well yesterday. Sorry that it is worse today but sometimes it is worth the effort.

The sun has just peeped through :) Just returned from a very fast walk with our puppy (half an hour murphydog, is that ok?). She is really strong already and literally drags me along :D

I forgot to eat much yesterday so crammed in the evening and ended up with stomach ache. Silly really but I don't want to go into starvation mode.

I have to have my thyroid and fasting lipid blood tests repeated on Thursday. I have gone against low carb advice and cut down on saturated fat recently as I don't want another high cholesterol count when it has always been fine before. I realise that it could be the low thyroid count that is pushing it up but I am trying to balance it all out so I am trying to keep to around 90 - 100g fat, 30g saturated a day, which is hard as I like cream, coconut etc. Fingers crossed / prayers that it will be ok please as it was 7.4 last time, up from 5 and I am not going to take statins!!!

Out to replant the veg / strawberries as the pots are swimming in water and the plants suffering.

Mercy - how is the Dukan going?

    Keep smiling :)

i agree with daska re circulating triglycerides when you are losing weight , however my experience was that Lcarbing reduced my total chol as it generally lowers triglycerides and raises HDL ( good chol if there is such a thing) however it can raise LDL but its the type of ldl that matters if you have large fluffy ldl particles then its all good
hope you get the results you are after x

Any water counts... even the water in the blueberries. I rarely drink water on its own. When I do, it's usually when abroad in very hot climates.

I drink alcohol (beer) and it hasn't stopped me losing weight. It may have slowed progress somewhat but I'm prepared to live with that. I can't live without beer though. :p

Well, I scrapped the ommelete idea as I'm a bit egged out and decided to nip into Lidl where I found gammon steaks at 30% off. I fried one off in butter, with a large tomato, when cooked, I squeezed some lemon juice into the pan, poured some single cream in and some chopped fresh parsley and scoffed it in 2 minutes. Was delish.

I am finding this to be a very tasty, satisfying and easy diet to follow.

TBH if anyone told me they had ME and felt better when they did strenuous exercise I'd be telling them to go see a different GP. Personally I've found the hardest thing to come to terms with is the payback and that is the classic marker of ME (exhaustion not just immediately after the event but a delayed reaction as well). Even having been low carb for 6 months now and having lost 3.5 stone there's still payback if I overspend my energy. And I do that even with 37 hours support from SS, my energy goes on cooking (I get my helpers to chop my veg etc) and DS2.

Sorry Daska my fitness waffle wasn't aimed at you, just that in general human's are designed to move about.
I didn't word it very well, I've never had ME, I was diagnosed with firbomyalgia years ago and have suffered with v achey joints, but when I exercise my joints feel better, that's all I meant, no offence intended and sorry if it read that way. I've never had ME so could never understand what you go through.

    Hope that's OK.

Welcome Jerryjerryjerry, you seem to be doing great on low carb and your lunch sounds yummy! :T

Yesterday was truly a carb fest. My mum's birthday and she'd made shepherds pie, birthday cream cake for afters and home-made coconut buns for later. I had more carbs last night than I've had in weeks! :o

This morning I did indeed have carb face and felt hungover too. Back to clean eating yes please!

    Today's looks like this
Brekkie - homemade toasted oat & nut muesli with almond milk (clean eating not low carb)
Lunch - chunky salad of toms, courgettes, peppers, cucumber with tex mex cheese & mayo
    Snack - almonds
Dinner - plan on having the rest of my homemade veg curry with chicken.

Boght some more almond milk yest in Tesco where most it's on offer, don't get the Alpro one, its got added sugar and tastes minging  Threw it away. Get the Almond Breeze one which doesn't have added sugar and tastes lush.

    Hi

No weight loss this week. :(

daska, sistercas, margaretclare -thanks for all of your support. Really the only difference is that I am buying low fat probiotic greek yogurt, cutting down on the cream to around 3oz day and using olive oil instead of butter. I have also cut down on eggs a bit.
Personally I am just hoping that the thyroid and lipids will have settled down but who knows. I will deal with it when the results are in but my GP won't tell me the levels, which is very frustrating as I could interpret them better.

Jerry, jerry, jerry - Hi and welcome. You don't have much to lose so it may take longer but well done so far :T

    nuttybabe - welcome back

elantan - if I go off the diet too much then I get really bad stomach pains, so it isn't really worth it in the long run.

Murphydog - I would upload pictures if I knew how. I took the dog, Coco, out again last night but her pulling has really made my neck more painful and I have nerve pains in my arm so may need to think. She really does drag me along and I walk quite fast.

Mercy hasn't posted so, if you are reading, don't go away please ;)

    Have a good evening.

    Hi all!

Been reading through all week but as I'm not low carbing as we know it I've not been talking about my food etc. Will do a post all about it on Friday and add any losses.

Regulars will know that I have had trouble losing and have actually put weight on since stopping smoking. That'll be 12 weeks today :j
