I wish, ME does rather turn everything on it's head. It's taken me several years to learn NOT to do things just cos I feel good at that moment! Because the more I do the worse I feel and then it comes back and kicks me a couple of days later as well - it is literally as if someone turns out the lights, I can be walking along (ok, shuffling) and grind to a halt simply because I did too much about 60+ hours previously. Thank you Sheila, I have in fact been bouncing the carbs around a bit doing alternate days very low and more moderate. Even had rice with my domoda last Thursday and finished off with cake with strawberries and clotted cream - mmmm! Given that last week was really stressy and I was baking and had extra family around most days it would have been really easy to fall off the wagon completely - I did splurge on the cake yesterday after DS2 had gone to bed but it's back on the straight and narrow as of this morning. I don't get downheartened when I break it because I know there have been days when I've really splurged at a meal and woken up the following day 2lb lighter LOL
I never used to wear jeans, but that was because my mum always claimed that jeans had to be baggy or they were uncomfortable so I never had a pair that fitted, they always looked like clown trousers. Now I can buy my own I do recognise that they're not the best look for me but at the same time they are practical. And I've spent the last 6 years in yoga bottoms and I'm pig sick of them LOL
Sorry am on the phone again ... But i just wanted to say mmm I NEED THAT DAMODA RECIPE ... Please please
Have tried making damoda a few time but it tastes nothing like what it does in The Gambia ... One of the nicest foods i've ever had0 -
Daska, can you do the stretching exercises I suggested to Sheila - and others - a few pages back? They would help keep you supple and relieve tension, without too much exertion?0

LOL I think Domoda is one of those dishes that tastes different in every house, and of course we don't have access to the same ingredients, but the one I did the other day went a bit like this (my ingredients in brackets) cos I just do it by eye from what I have in the house ;p
ingredients:
meat 1.2kg whatever (beef and lamb on whoopsie)
onions (1 can eazy onions)
tomatoes/tomatillos - fresh or canned (1 packet passata with garlic and herbs plus tomato paste (one really good squeeze). On one occasion I used gooseberries (same family as tomatillos) because I had a glut lol. I suspect rhubarb might work as well but leave out the lemon juice)
peanut butter (4? massively heaped tablespoons)
veg - whatever you have hanging around, fresh canned or frozen but not leaf veg/brassicas, they don't work so well (1kg bag of chopped, frozen carrot, green beans, sweetcorn and peas)
something sour - especially if you're using tomatoes (1 jif lemon)
heat - whatever takes your fancy (a couple of tablespoons of white pepper but more added to taste at the table)
method
here it gets interesting
MIL does it 'as we were taught'. She boils a leg of lamb until it falls off the bone and then adds veg and boils some more, then tomatoes and peanut butter and boils some more then season at the end. Her veg disintegrates into the sauce.
Personally I throw all but the veg, lemon juice and pepper in a slow cooker then nuke the veg and throw it all together just before serving.
And she insists you must use the cheap smooth sweet peanut butter whereas I just use my normal crunchy Meridian stuff.

I have some specific back stretching/tummy strengthening exercises from my osteopath in his vain attempt to keep my back going - he jokes that the only reason I'm upright is because the spasm in my upper back prevents it collapsing LOL but I have to be careful about stretching because I'm also hypermobile - and as you might guess being sedentary doesn't help with that LOL, really need more muscle tone rather than less. I'm over 40, haven't exercised in 6 years and can still put my palms flat on the floor with my elbows bent, but need help getting back up if I do. It's the resistance stuff that I miss out on.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Morning from my East Midlands hotel - that means that breakfast is lovely bacon and eggs and not made by me!
Last night I had the cheesburger without the bun or chips but plenty of salad. With only one glass of wine.
Interestingly I had to use my rain jacket for the first time in ages and it not only closed, but without strain and I could even see the bottom of the zip. :j:j Small things makes me so happy.
Brought some pieces of gammon and a few cherry toms for lunch (I need the juice) so trying hard to keep on track.
Hope everyone is resisting like mad, in more than one sense of the word.:D

Daska, I fully sympathize. I have ME caused by Chronic Lyme Disease and I'm the same as you in regards to energy. I have in the last 3 months started doing Callanetics. It was designed by someone who had Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) . My OH says, I hardly move but they are really effective. I started off by doing about 3 of the exercises, most of which were stretches and I only did 5 repetitions of each. I increased the repetitions very slowly, giving my body time to adjust to each level (as you know we ME'ers take time to adjust to anything). I am now doing 8 of the exercises at 60 repetitions each 3-4 times a week. I don't know how bad your ME is but it might be worth investigating. Only you know what your limits are, so don't feel pressurised, I would hate for you to have a relapse as they are awful. It is particularly difficult when you have a young family . I was first diagnosed when my youngest was 2 and it does take all your energy just to look after them. I used to go to bed as soon as OH got home I was that tired.Weight loss 0/2st

Had a lovely day out yesterday. We had a short, slow walk beside the river and then had lunch in a coffee shop. On the outside it looked like a 'greasy spoon cafe' but inside we were suprised to see it had been decorated in the style of a 60's American Diner. Whilst looking at the menu outside, we decided I would have a chicken tikka jacket potato with salad and I would give the potato to OH. When it came to ordering it turned out they were out of jacket potatoes, so I asked if I could just have the chicken tikka with salad and they were quite happy to do that
It did come with coleslaw which I gave to OH because I really dislike it, in fact I dislike anything with mayonnaise, salad cream or ketchup.
I'm so glad I managed the walk as OH said it was probably about a mile and I haven't walked that far for ages. However, this morning I'm feeling the effects and am really tired, but it was worth it for such a lovely day.
On another note, my DD rang up last night, she a medical student and she told us that she had just seen her first birth that day. She says she is never going to have kids!:rotfl:Weight loss 0/2st

durham_mim - I used to do callanetics, that's a good reminder, feeling knackered just thinking about that tip-toe exercise LOL.
elantan - dinner at MIL's is still scrummy even when the veg have disappeared. But she is a bit "I have to do it the way I was taught" about everything whereas I'm more flexible in the kitchen.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
