My last check up i had lost 2.2kg of fat and gained 1kg of muscle ... I now have the correct weight of muscle for my body ... Just too much fat lol0
-
So i decided to weigh myself today ... Have to admit it's not so much about what i weigh that interests me but how healthy i am
But i am a member of dragons 7lb club to help me on the straight and narrow ( as well as here)
I currently weigh the least amount of weight that i have weighed in over 11 years
I went shopping yesterday which is NEVER and enjoyable experience ... I always land up crying as i look hideous in anything i buy ... I always have to go for bigger sizes ... I have been knon on several occasions to walk out a store with tears streaming down my face and just unable to handle it
Well yesterday was nearly the same ... I had tears stinging my eyes , my husband had tears in his eyes also ... This time however it was because i had to keep going for smaller and smaller sizes ... And the clothes fit much much better ... I didnt look like i was wearing a tent
I still have a very long long way to go ... I know it wont be fast and i know that sometimes i will be overwhelmed ... But getting back to healthy is my future ... Whether my fat cells want it or not
Just thought i would share0 -
Elantan, that is such a lovely story and very inspiring to those just starting out. I look forward to getting into smaller sizes too. When I married I had a 'lovely figure' and its hard looking at myself now. I hate having photo's taken and don't like seeing myself in the mirror. Not only do I look fat but I look unhealthy. The unhealthy bit is partly due to the Lyme Disease which is difficult to do anything about, but I'm determined to get rid of the fat. I realise this time it is a life style change and there's no going back. If I go back to the old ways then I will put the weight back on plus some more, which has happened this time. I can't afford to be a higher weight than I am already so I have to stick it out.Weight loss 0/2st
Inch loss = 0"

Hi all!
I've read most of the book and I've bought the food for next week. I will be a Dukaner for a while.
I won't post my food here as that would be silly :rotfl:
I would still like to come here as I like it and the peeps.
I do not feel the need to join another group as well - well, not yet.But I do need a metabolic shake up and I'm hoping this works. I have never dieted to lose weight before so feel a little apprehensive. But nothing ventured etc

It can be a good thing to write down everything that you eat, even if you don't tell the world about it.
When you look at something and think "If I eat that, I'll have to write it on today's list" it can make you stop and think whether you really need it.
Also, if you don't lose the weight you expect, it's handy to look back and reassess what you've eaten and see if there's any particular foods that might be giving you problems.0 -

Thanks hun. I will be keeping the old food diary etc, I've been doing it for a whileThink it's important when starting something new especially. Whether losses occur or not, it's all valuable info.

Mercy - Of course you can still post on here. Dukan is a low carb diet anyway, just spread in a different way. Don't be silly, we'd miss you too much
aliasojo - thanks for the picture, think that I'll have a picture taken of my backside before buying any jeans
elenatan and durham - mim - well done on losing weight :T It really is a great thrill to be able to buy smaller clothes and go into shops that you couldn't before. Having been a size 28 last June I could only shop in Evans really and now can buy clothes from most places, cheaper as well.
My recipe for almond pancakes is
50g ground almonds
1 egg, little salt, Fizzy water
Mix together, adding fizzy water until it makes a thickish batter
Fry on both sides for 1 - 2 minutes each side
Depending on how hungry I am I divide this into 2 or 3 portions and keep the mixture in the fridge.
I like them with berries and cream myself.
I enter everything I eat on Fitday, adapting for the fact that it gives gross carb values as it is an American website. You can record weight, exercise and get the vitamins, minerals, carbs, protein and fat + yes (calories).
Have a good day and stay out of the rain0 -
As someone who does no exercise, can I ask how you would know if your body was burning muscle mass as opposed to fat? Also, are there any 'resistance ' type exercises on the wii fit that I could do-its funny how easy I find it to sort the food out, but just can't commit to exercise. A walk every day wouldn't be resistance would it????
Hi, the answer to the first question is, you don't - unless you seek professional advice i.e. personal trainer/weight management advisor etc, who have specialist machines (as Elantan has testified to). You body doesn't burn muscle, it loses mass if you either don't feed it, or don't use it - or both. The more muscle you have the easier it is to burn calories, your metabolism continues to burn at a steady rate. (Calorie controlled diets are bad for this as they make you loose water from the muscle - mass - and lower your metabolism, without addressing the fat issue. In my experience it's only non-diet pro's and sports people that address this.)
The more exercise you do that build muscle the more calories you burn, the fitter you get, the weight comes off quicker and easier. Sooooo many benefits. Plus for everyone who is losing weight and that loose skin needs to go somewhere! It will need toning up and exercise is the only way to do this. You can loose inches just by toning alone.
Resistance is explained as 'any type of exercise that forces the muscles to contract against significant resisting forces' - basically something that makes you push and pull something significant, or against something.
So yes walking is a low resistance for you lower body - jumping/skipping would be better - game of hopscotch, perhaps? - but it's a total body approach thats best. So, weight training, using resistance bands, body weight exercises like press-ups, pull-ups, etc, swimming, aqua aerobics.
Trying to think what's on the Wii, haven't used mine in a while.......The yoga and muscle strengthening section, particularly the lunges, there's a good side lunge taking your arm over, with one foot on the board. The step routine would be ok if you got yourself a set of hand weights to use at the same time. The boxing section also good.
I haven't promoted my website on here for obvious reasons, but I am quoting here from my section on the science behind the particular technique, it is a very important reason to exercise NOT just to loose weight and tone..........
One of the outstanding benefits of resistance exercise, as it relates to weight loss, is the positive impact of increasing energy expenditure during the exercise session, and somewhat during recovery, and on maintaining fat-free body mass while encouraging the loss of fat body-weight.
As people get older, osteoporosis tends to become more of an issue, due to losses in bone mass density. Many people try to offset this problem by taking calcium supplements. However, extra calcium is only beneficial if the body absorbs it, and the body will only absorb it if there is a stimulus to do so (i.e. a stimulus to increase bone mass density). The most powerful stimuli for increasing bone mass density include activities which put significant stresses on the bones, and resistance exercises are among the most effective of these.
Hope that helps
Edit. Oops it a bit long......sorry.0
