I try to keep to 3 meals a day because if I start snacking I won't stop and I don't really need to eat anything else, I'm never hungry (well maybe a vague sensation) but sadly I eat for umpteen reasons other than hunger.

    B - 2 eggs scrambled in butter
    L - Prawn salad
    D - Lamb chops & green veg

1 black coffee, 2 teas, 2 litres water
    Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
    And now the final frame
    Love is a losing game

Jazza - scroll up to the green bar above where it gives the title of the thread. Click on User CP. The menu on the left lets you access your sig.

I'm finding that varying my carb intake a bit, and having the odd blow out, seems to have halted the stall and I know I've seen more than one reference to the body becoming accustomed to a certain level. Certainly it makes sense that the body won't want to lose all it's reserves, they are there for a reason, and it makes sense that this is where your level of activity is relevant - the evidence is that activity levels are curtailed by weight gain rather than weight gain resulting from lower activity levels so I'm thinking it's logical that you need to force oneself to be as active as possible. Difficult when you use a wheelchair though LOL

N.B. By blowout I don't mean I'm gobbling cake and chocolate every other day but we are having an occasional big meal of 'lower' carb dishes from the local indian takeaway e.g. a shashlick and green veg sides, no lentils, naan etc. But then if the following day I'm not hungry I might only have a small salad with a hard boiled egg and mayo.

Have been thinking about the cauliflower cheese effect and I'm wondering if it is purely psychological. It's the one remaining dish that I used to eat as a child. I no longer have the dhal+rice, macaroni cheese, ratatouille+rice etc that dominated my childhood. And my mum was very much one for wanting something sweet at the end of a meal. Maybe it is simply programming?

Hi guys I found this article on daily amount of carbs for weight loss http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-primal-carbohydrate-continuum/#axzz1zgDVX4nx

It's suggesting that between 50-100g per day is the ideal amount. It does say that if you are diabetic you may have to eat a smaller number of carbs.

I know everyone has a different approach to low carbing and what works for one person doesn't necessary work for someone else.

I haven't been counting the number of carbs yet but I am going to start soon.

    Does 50-100g sound okay?

ps how do I change my signature

    Jazza

for those who are doing something like Atkins they normally start for the first two weeks on a very restricted 20gs and then add in extra carbs ina very controlled manor until weight loss stalls then reduce back to where they were losing again.

if you want to do Atkins for weight loss then you really need to read up on it and stick pretty rigidly to it.

For slower weight loss and controlling the spikes of carbs in your system and thus contriling your insulin output you could start where you suggest and see how you get on. if its too many you won't lose weight, simple as that.

Be sure to read all packages and labels and read up for nutritional information there are carbs where you think there aren't!

    good luck

Is it safe to come back in yet?

    ;-)

ETA I've added DD for Dukan diet and put less than 50carbs per day, it should be quite a lot less. In fact I might just tot up a standard day and come back and let you know...

ETA again, about 30c today. Low fat. Sorry!

That's a good link Jazza, from a highly recommended website. Sets it out in black and white, easy to understand terms. What it only touches on - which applies to all of us - is health, weight, lifestyle, they all differ, and all need to be taken into account.

What I would suggest if you are stuck and are on the 50-100g level is to have a pure protein day once a week/10 days, and/or if you are pretty strict like Mercy, have a higher carb day once a week/10 days.

Exercise also works in the same way. Increase levels for a few weeks (even if it's only 15 mins a day) then have a few days off. Try not to get the body into a routine, as I said to Mr G & D it's good to have a shake-up every-now-and-again.

I don't know if you saw my earlier post where I think I may be eating too few carbs or just wrong for me.

This old Dukan thing is appealing for a body shocker. I fully feel low carb is best. I am putting on weight with much less than 20g carb per day, so .....

    May do month of Dukan.
Any best websites to frequent?, Good info for Dukan?

    Please help.

Thanks for that. Need something to work else I'll just keep getting bigger. Like I'm being inflated :rotfl:

There is the dukaners.com forum but most of them will tell you to get the book...

On the official Dukan website, you can put in your stats and it will tell you your "true weight" which you may or may not agree with, but also advise how long to do the "attack" phase for.

On attack you can have lean meat, fish, shellfish, eggs and very low fat dairy. No veg. But it's only for a few days. Also 1.5 tablespoons of oatbran. This can be made into porridge, pancake, muffin etc or just stirred into yoghurt.
On the next phase, you alternate between one day of protein as above, and one day of protein plus veg (not starchy veg), and up the oatbran to 2 tablespoons. You continue with this until you hit your true weight.
The next is consolidation where for a set amount of time, depending on the amount lost, you slowly introduce other foods, still quite restricted.
Lastly, stabilisation is the permanent way of eating, still avoiding very carby stuff and having a pure protein day every week (which I think someone has already mentioned).

    Hope that helps xxx

Atkins only suggests 20g of carbs for the first two weeks of Induction and then a gradual increase until weight loss stalls, so those including me who continue to eat less than 20g are not in effect following Atkins.

    Yes you are!

"Based on your experience in the last two weeks plus your weight goal, you've come to one of the forks in the road. It's time to decide whether to stay in Induction or move on to Phase 2 [...] Having a large amount of weight to lose is a common reason to stay longer in Induction [...] If you're content for now with the Induction food choices, you should consider staying put [...] the choice is yours." New Atkins, New You.

Until recently it suggested on the website that you should stay in Induction for 2 weeks or until you were within 1.5 stone (?) of your target weight.

    Hello all ..

    Did I miss something ??

I thought I would pop my head in.

I eat a tin of Roe .. is said all protein so just fried slices and had with a kind of scrambled egg ,spinach thing ...
Nice in a different kind of way.

The other thing I had was Omurice

This is a less well known Japanese dish .. Modified further by me mixing left over bolgnase sauce with Rice as the filling ..
It was really good .. with spinach salad

I had no ketchup with mine ..

I am still not exercising my arm .. so not really doing any exercise.
    everyone well I hope.?
