Low-carb diets support thread

I just eat when I'm hungry - usually early afternoon and then have an evening meal later. I don't really have an appetite any more so there seems little point of eating for the sake of it.
I'm eating "clean" too, nothing with any additives, no high carb veg, just berries, veg, meat, poultry and some dairy.
The last time I did low carb I was very sucessful and reached my goal (several years ago) but I made the mistake (in my opinion) of doing the low carb substitute route - buying lc bread, cakes, pasta etc and I think it was a big reason for my subsequent weight gain again, as I was still eating additives and sweet stuff and hadn't retrained my mind.
I've now lost 23lbs in 2 months without exercising (I am lazy)
Sounds like a good choice for you but for others it may be worth saying that some berries can be high carb.
I agree the substitute foods are not for me either.0 -
That's a good age for a Dalmation. Why were they veggies when you eat meat?
Circumstances. The dogs were inherited from a previous relationship and, at the time, we hardly had enough money to feed ourselves meat. They seemed to thrive on it so we carried on with that diet.
You can buy a huge bag of veggie dog food for not much at all, or you could. It was few years ago now.
BTW I eat anything. I make no distinction between carnivore, pescatore (sp?), veggie, vegan or whatever else. It's all food to me.0 -
Would it possibly help if we had a deffinition of what a low carb diet is and that it is put in the title of the thread ? That way we wont need to amend signatures and newbies and lurkers etc will know what kinda low carb thread it is
Maybe something like 100 g of carb a day or less would give a good indication as to what the thread is about ?
That way we wont have to explain it all every time we talk about it ... Maybe then there could be a lower thread say 20g a day or less for the more strict and there wont be as much confusion
Just a thought0 -
ognum - have 12 - 14 raspberries a day at a total of 3.2 carbs with 1.7g fibre. Strawberries are around 3/4 carb each, 10 blueberries just under 2 carbs and 1 oz blackberries about 1.5 carbs. On Atkins berries are allowed on OWL after induction.
I have them for variety with my almond pancake each day.
I also try to keep away from substitutes but admit to using Splenda occasionally.0 -

Hi Sheila
I am not in any way suggesting you do not eat berries, I am just aware that 14 raspberries for 3.2 carbs is not that big a bowl full, it would be easy for someone to eat a bowl full thinking they are low in carbs and have actually eaten 10 or more carbs.
I am not sure from memory but are berries Level 3 or 4 of OWL and can be added in on Atkins provided that weight loss continues.
I was not trying to tall others how to low carb, I believe too much of that has been done here!
There is just some belief that when eating low carb you don't need to count anything but intact when you are adding in other foods you do need to be aware.
By the way pancakes sound delich!0 -

Padstow I'm trying to eat 5 smaller meals a day rather than 3, or at least 3 smaller & 2 substantial snacks. But it depends on how convenient that is and how organised I am when at work etc.
Apparently this is a better way to eat for those doing high levels of fitness and I'm doing intensive workouts at the mo.
Had to buy a smaller dinner plate tho cos all mine are huge! And smaller portions just look lost on there :rotfl:
Got a nice square one from Dunhelm Mill which I think is actually a large side plate but it will do. Subconsciously I didn't like having a half empty plate even tho I'm eating more meals if that makes sense.0
