murphydog999 - take over all you like as you have a lot of expertise and it is appreciated
elantan, minihauk, durham- mim - good to see you posting. Minihauk - how did you feel when you stopped low carbing and do you feel better now?
Well I am quite pleased as I have lost the 2lb that I put on on holidayNow, hopefully, onwards and downwards. Been stuck around the same weight for a while now but am fairly resigned due to the low thyroid. Bit more loss would be a bonus though.

For example, to cure cravings, how about strawberries (or any berries) and double cream/clotted cream? The berries will give you the sweetness without too many carbs and the cream will give your body the richness/fat to satisfy it. Also see my post below.
The other main help would be to not have the temptations in the house!
thanks as always murphy i'm glad your here lol , i have strawberries in the polytunnel just now and they look delicious so that might be the answer ...
i was wondering if it couldve been the cheese and broccolli quorn escalope because it is breaded ? i hadnt counted that in when i looked at the back i was just more concentrating on trying to get enough protein into my diet ...
the personal trainer wants me to have 150g of protein a day , and you know me being the veggie i am i am struggling to get 80g a day...
i have been having to rethink the whole no meat whatsoever issues
sadly however getting our house chocolate free is an impossibility just nowhubby is badly badly addicted to it and with everything else he has had to give up recently now is not a good time for him to try
i have to admit if i aint craving sweet things you could offer me them and i would be turning up my nose at them. i really dont like it, i was eating the bounty last night going yuck this is not enjoyable ... but i kept eating ... thank goodness i didnt eat the mini eggs lol0 -

Nice menu that, Sheila. :T0 -
Thanks murphydog999 - I tend to use fitday to balance nutrients whilst having things that I enjoy
I average around 100 - 120g protein, 120g fat (40 - 45g saturated) and 45 - 50 carbs. I have a retest of fasting lipids next month and hope that it will be a bit better than last time.
durham - mim : I get flax from Holland & Barrett
http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product.asp?bid=370&searchterm=linwoods&rdcnt=1
On B1G1HP
A little goes a long way and flax can go rancid once ground but they come in resealable packs.
I tend to buy ground almonds from Lidl or Aldi as their nuts etc are cheaper. However they are not as finely ground as those found in other supermarkets, most of whom stock them.0 -

Hi Sheila,
I only restarted yesterday - spent four weeks [STRIKE]eating[/STRIKE] ramming carp down my throat - the spare tyre grew rapidly and lots of fluid retention. Felt generally carp, but kept stuffing my face - go figure!
I KNOW this suits me and feel much better. I do need to get the balance of protein and fats as I'm sure I don't eat enough unsaturated fat and would really appreciate some help with knowing which are good fats to eat.
Murphy/anyone - any advice please?
It really is good to be back.:T0 -
Minihauk - I get my fats from coconut oil, olive oil, cream and a small amount of butter + nuts, chocolate and seeds. Trying to keep saturated fat down as my cholesterol has gone up due to low thyroid.0

Vitamin D hasn't been mentioned for a long time, and i think it's worth bringing up again.
In my personal circumstances I came back from 8 years abroad, nearly 2 years ago, where sun was in abundance, but it's obviously still a bit thin on the ground here, so last month I started taking Vit D3 and calcium & magnesium supplements. Now, coincidence or not, the last couple of weeks - without changing any food/exercise habits - my body fat has dropped to what it was a couple of years ago. I'm only talking a 1% drop but enough to make a difference and wonder why. Now this could be due to umpteen different metabolisms.......but, I've also been reading The Vitamin D Solution, by Michael Holick PHD MD.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Vitamin-Solution-Strategy-Problems/dp/0452296889/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340025783&sr=8-1
In Chapter 11, amongst other evidence concerning Vit D deficiencies and obesity (to name just one linked disease!) there is this....
When the diet lacks calcium, there is an increase in the fatty acid synthase, an enzyme that converts calories into fat. Higher levels of calcium with adequate levels of Vit D inhibit this enzyme, while diets low in calcium increase synthase by as much as fivefold. What this means is in the presence of calcium and Vit D the body turns down the volume on this fat-storing enzyme.
Vitamin D also has a positive impact on on insulin metabolism, it can improve muscle strength, lessen aches and pains in bones, muscles and joints (as can magnesium) and inspire people to become more active.
Certain medications for epliepsy, the steroid prednisone, St John's Wort and some obesity related drugs all interfere with the body's ability to maintain levels, so additional supplements are required.
I know some of you already do supplement, but it's worth looking into if you don't.0 -
