<peeps above the parapet>
Hello , any room in here for one a little larger than she was??
I went to Tallinn for a long weekend a month ago and it has taken me 4 weeks to stop eating the dreaded carbs once I started. I have stuffed so much rubbish into my body and my girth has expanded exponentially.
I've been very good today .....
I have read back a few pages, but you lot sure can talk, lol.
Hope you are all well.0 -
Hi Minihauk, welcome back !
Estonian cuisine does seem to be of the stick to your ribs variety of stodge, I guess with their winters though that's how it got so carby.
Walked to Morrisons as it was nice day, found we'd left both debit cards at home so I waited for OH in local park while he dashed home. Morrisons emailed me last week and admitted that if you want to avoid GM-fed animals you can only eat from their organic range.
That's all very well but all we could find were organic eggs, milk, yogurt, chick peas and butter - no meat or poultry at all ! Got a few bits for OH like piccalilli, Gressingham duck breast fillets for his rolls and some organic carrots. We were reading labels and tinned ratatouille has guar gum and all sortsIn one Jordan's cereal bar, the second ingredient was fructose which was kind of shocking.
President unsalted Normandy butter is now 1.60 in Morrisons eek I've been buying it for 1.31 in Waitrose and 1.35 in Budgens.
Lactofree, 1.28 in Morrisons is now 1.39 in Sainsbury's. I may switch to Moo organic UHT whole milk as it's 1g carbs per 100ml more than Lactofree but 39p per litre cheaper in Sainsbury's.
Total Greek yogurt is 2.39 for 500g in Morrisons and only 2.10 in ASDA but my local ASDA has stopped stocking any Total but 0% fat so I bought Yeo Valley organic natural yogurt 500g to try at 1.48
OH bought The Sunday Times for a change (we used to have it years ago, now we read newspapers online) and Minette Marrin was saying that fat is a class issue and that only the poor are fat. Soo patronising and incorrect too. Grr... I may email her.
Have emailed MP and asked him to fwd it Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Jim Paice MP at DEFRA. I hope I get a reply, my MP doesn't always bother which I think is bad.0 -
ladies i've been doing the low carbing for a wee while now but for some reason today i couldve killed for a bounty ( landed up having one
)and i dont even like chocolate... i'm wondering if i possibly had some carbs that i am unaware of which led to a craving for more ...
when i first got the craving i had a few teaspoons of almond butter ( which was lovely but didnt satisfy my craving)
after i had the chocolate i found myself heading for the mini eggs ( again i dont like them) so i landed up eating 2 yoghurts thinking yep they are sweet but no where near as bad as a whole huge bag of mini eggs ( which i just know i wouldve eaten)
i want to kinda get this sorted as i dont want it to keep happening
can anyone suggest anything ?
what is good for getting rid of cravings ? what causes them?
thanks0 -

Thought I would copy sistercas and report my menu's as this will help keep me focused. Here is what I had yesterday
Breakfast - 3 slices Genius Seeded toasted with peanut butter
Lunch - 2 boiled eggs with 2 slices genius seeded spread with lactofree butter + a apple
snack - 1 microwave low carb sponge + 2 choc digestives
Dinner - Mince dinner ( OH's favourite for fathers day) with carrots, peas, cabbage, broccoli, sprouts & 1 new potato. Dessert was swedish glace diary free ice cream.
Drinks: Rooisbos Tea with watered down lactofree cream. Water
I know I slipped up this week and caved into the biscuits, and I know this menu isn't completely carb free. I am trying to reduce gradually as sudden changes are not good for ME sufferers. We have our tea/Dinner late on a Sunday as we have to wait for DD to finish work and I find having to wait that extra hour or so really difficult. On Saturday we went 10 pin bowling with our church housegroup. I woke up exhausted on Sunday morning, however I had asked OH to do some digging for me at the allotment and today was the first dry day. We went to the allotment and OH got the bed dug over, whilst he was doing that I cut some of the grass at the edge of the beds but had to give up very quickly as I was too tired. When I got home and started preparing tea I felt I had to eat something for an energy boost. I had a low carb microwave sponge in the fridge which I ate but did not satisfy so I gave into the choc digestives. I find I always crave something sweet whilst I'm preparing Sunday Dinner so need to break this habit. I need to build up a supply of low carb snacks which I can have on hand when I am feeling too tired to make anything. Re the ice-cream I usually have lactofree ice cream but for some reason bought the swedish glace instead. I only allow myself to have this after Sunday dinner once a week, it is the only meal at which the rest of the family have a dessert, they usually have a ice lolly but sometimes its cheesecake or vienetta, so having the ice cream stops me from feeling left out.Weight loss 0/2st

L, you need to make sure you are getting enough fat in all meals. It will keep you satisfied and fuller for longer.
For example, to cure cravings, how about strawberries (or any berries) and double cream/clotted cream? The berries will give you the sweetness without too many carbs and the cream will give your body the richness/fat to satisfy it. Also see my post below.
The other main help would be to not have the temptations in the house!0 -

Hi globalds, presumably with following a low-carb way of eating your protein levels will be pretty good anyway, yes you can use your protein powder (hopefully you've checked the label as some can be a bit carby!), but for it to be effective (rather than just wee'd out) you need to stimulate the muscle - that does mean exercise.
Whatever injury you have is obviously affecting your hand which isn't ideal, but unless you do some resistance exercise/weight training, you can eat all the protein you like and it won't make much difference.
You need your muscle fibres to tear to make new fibres (building muscle) and to do that you need to pull/push something heavy; you probably know exactly what I am talking about, but you may need to wait until you are recovered before you start?0 -

Hi durham min, these are the ingredients in your genius bread - the brown variety - it may be gluten free and profess on the packaging not to contain everything we are not meant to eat but.............
Water, Tapioca Starch, Rice Flour, Potato Starch, Rapeseed Oil, Maize Starch, Psyllium Husk Powder, Treacle, Humectant (Vegetable Glycerine), Stabiliser (Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose), Dried Egg White, Yeast, Salt, Millet Flakes, Flax Seeds, Sugar Beet Fibre, Caramelised Sugar Syrup, Rice Starch, Preservative (Calcium Propionate), Flavouring.
..........there's an awful lot of starch (sugar) and sugar in there, 14g carbs per slice! 5 slices = 70g!!
Down the other end of the day, these are the ingredients from the ice-cream (vanilla).........
Water extract from premium graded soya beans (Soya milk), sucrose, dextrose, vegetable oils non-hydrogenated, vanilla flavour, emulsifiers: mono- and diglycerides from vegetable oils, stabilisers: carob bean gum, guar gum, carrageenan, acidity regulator: calcium citrate, salt, vanilla, grains, colour: beta carotene.
Hmmmmm.......
Beware hidden nasties in pre-packaged, processed food.....0 -
Sorry about this, I seem to be taking over!! A good alternative for cravings/dessert options I've just found. Haven't tried it (yet), so don't shoot the messenger, but the reviews say it's tasty.

Thanks md for the info I hadn't realised how much sugar was in the genius bread. I will have to go back to making my own but I don't always have the energy to do this. I have tried using a bread maker but it comes out like lead.
Once this tub of ice cream is used up I will not get any more now I know what's in it. I have been neglecting to read labels I used to be obsessive about it.Weight loss 0/2st
