I will keep posting my menu , it does help me to see it in black and white

sistercas - well done, that is fantastic :j
Edwardia - size 14/16 is my aim so well done
durham_mim - welcome, cutting out sugar and starch can be hard but the benefits are well worth it
Not a bad day, had 2 sausages with onions at school fete, without buns. Think that they thought I was madAlso had to do an hour stint on the cake stall which was a bit harder as I love cake. Just had one mouthful of coffee cake and gave the rest to DGD. Not too bad I suppose but hope that I haven't scuppered my chances of losing the 2lb I put on on holiday.
Had a chat with one of the Mums who told me that she had gone low carb last year and lost 2 stone but had put it all back on. Seems sad to me.
Dinner - chicken with ratatouille, almond pancake and berries / cream.
Have a great evening.0 -
Just back from ASDA and Sainsbury's. OH quipped that the fastest way to lose weight is to go organic, as there was very little in Sainsbury's and you'd be OK in ASDA only if you were an organic rabbit (carrots).
Did find pack of 6 slices of Negroni prosciutto crudo (air-dried Parma ham , for anyone else with Italian as bad as mine) in Sainsbury's, no additives 1.65. All the standard hams and bacons have nitrates
I am hoping that other episodes of The Men Who Made Us Fat put some focus on the way in which corn (maize), soya and sugar/variants of are just so pervasive in our world.
It's not just in cafes, takeaways and chain restaurants.. these things are everywhere, from stock cubes and ketchup to cold remedies. I'm not surprised that some people give up low carbing because of that.
For many people low carbing instills self-discipline and confidence. I think maybe it's like the veggie phase many teenage girls go through (I did but it lasted 15 yrs !) because it gives them control and people respect their choices.
I wonder whether anti-low carb people are somewhat like smokers who offer people giving up smoking cigarettes.. it's the I'll try to sabotage your efforts because I can't give up myself attitude
For me personally, low carbing has changed my life. I was, as my GP put it, on a conveyor belt to insulin and now by low carbing, I can maintain normal blood sugar. Not easy, but worth it.
Lindt Excellence 90% cocoa chocolate on special offer at Sainsbury's to 19th June. Was 1.83 per bar now 2 for 2.500 -

Thank you all for the warm welcome it is so good to have support and encouragement. Exercise has been a problem for me. Years ago I used to go to the gym 3 times a week but since being ill with the Lyme Disease I have been unable to walk more than a very short distance without becoming tired. Whilst going through a good spell I did go back to the gym for a little while taking things very gently, but I found it sooo boring. Whilst on the treadmill I thought about all the things I could be doing instead of being there and I got the idea of getting an allotment. I now have half a plot. My OH has to help me out with the heavy digging at the beginning and end of the season, otherwise I manage to weed, plant etc. It means I can do as much or as little exercise as I feel able and I get organic veg at the end of it. Also about 2 months ago I started doing callanetics again. I did them after my first daughter was born (21yrs ago) and the results were amazing. I decided to try again, adding new exercises and increasing the repetitions very slowly. So far I am managing to do the exercises 3 times a week and I can feel the difference. My body already feels more toned.
Re cutting out the sugar reading your posts here as really inspired me to cut it from my diet once again.Weight loss 0/2st

If it's any help, I've not done any proper exercise for about 9 months due to back/knee problems, but by changing what I ate I've managed to lose around 3 stone altogether. I think any exercise you can do is great, but the food makes the biggest difference (in my experience). Sounds like the exercises are just what you need in terms of exercise though0 -
....... 5 days after stopping sugar , ive lost 6 and 1/2 pounds :j:j I am really pleased
:T:T:j:j:T:T ....that's FANTASTIC!!!! What a LARGE return from a small alteration!!I am craving sugar today dont know why, i was in a coffee shop waiting for DD1 to finish work and drooling at all the cakes on the counter, i didnt cave but i could really do with a chocolate bar or something - i wont
It could be because of APPETITE CUES!!!!Appetite cues. Many people may be surprised to realize that one of the most significant factors influencing insulin secretion is psychology–the aroma, sight, flavor and even thought of food! While most of the insulin secreted in response to a meal occurs after ingestion (the post-prandial phase), anticipation of a meal and the many cues that signal “food is coming” will induce a substantial secretion of insulin even before any food enters the mouth or the digestive tract (the pre-prandial or cephalic phase). This goes back to Pavlov’s physiological psychology of digestion, discussed in detail on the Psychology page of this site. Pavlov identified enzymes such as amylase among the digestive fluids that he isolated from salivating dogs, but he did not at the time realize that insulin and other hormones (including the hunger signaling hormone ghrelin) were part of those secretions. The secretion of insulin prior to eating can lead to a rapid drop in blood sugar and fatty acids, with a corresponding an increase in appetite. As Taubes says (GCBC p. 443): “the thought of eating makes us hungry, because the insulin secreted in response depletes the bloodstream of the fuel that the peripheral tissues and organs need to survive.”Pre-prandial insulin secretion serves a useful purpose: to encourage eating of food when it is available, and to prime digestion to adapt to the quantity and even type of food being ingested. In her paper ”Physiological Effects of Flavour Perception“, Karen Teff indicates that pre-prandial insulin is secreted rapidly, within two minutes of stimulation by aroma, flavor or other food cues and peaks after about 4 minutes. By contrast, post-prandial insulin secretion does not start until 15 minutes after eating, and peaks at about 30-45 min. In lean individuals pre-prandial insulin secretion may represent only about 3% of post-prandial insulin release. But it has been noted that in obese humans and rats, pre-prandial insulin is significantly higher. Furthermore, pre-prandial insulin by “priming” appetite, leads to a significant increase in eating behavior, and thereby can be indirectly credited for causing much of the post-prandial insulin.
