Oh dear, what a day, it has been incredibly difficult this week so I'm finishing up all the goodies and ditching the less nice naughties (I'm afraid the full box of Hotel Chocolat counts as the former, and I'm scoffing it as I write, while the cake offcuts count as the latter even though it was a d*** good sponge even if I say so myself LOL). Ready for a new beginning tomorrow morning.

DS2 headbutted my feet this morning, he was being a 'worm' and backed into them at which point I promptly fainted - thankfully DS1 and his friend were still here to pick me up. But I took a look at them and realised that the swelling and colour was almost normal (for me that is) and I'm convinced that the biggest problem was simply the athlete's foot. Will be showing my GP next week!

DS2 has just puked all over his brand new curtains, bedlinen and rug :( Poor lad was worried that would tell him off for spitting so I had to reassure him that I wasn't sad or cross about him being sick because it's not the same as spitting out food at the table. That's 4 sets of bedlinen and 3 duvets washed in 24 hours - what is it about teenage boys that causes 'that' smell?

    Hi everyone

Back from Italy late last night as flight was delayed. Isn't it wet :(
Flew the flag by having bunting and flags on our mobile which got mixed reactions, some loving it and the Germans walking by and laughing.

Managed quite well and had either eggs or almond pancakes for breakfast, salad for lunch but did eat an ice cream a day and one pasta meal as I couldn't resist it ;) I also melted some 70% chocolate with coconut oil that I took with me and added nuts. Good treat from the fridge when tempted.

Mostly self catered but had a mixed grill with roasted veg one day which was awful. Lots of unrecognisable meat, very fatty and tasted yuk + undercooked slices of aubergine.

I have my Gold stevia from Germany. First impression is so so but I will persevere and decide later.

I have skimmed what I have missed but will read in detail later when I have dealt with my Ebay posting.

sistercas - thanks for asking where I was and mazzers - hope that your knee is improving.

daska - sounds like you had a fun day yesterday :D

Have a great day everyone, missed your encouragement and chat :):)

I've been told that the popularity of locarb diets in Norway is leading to cholesterol problems in the population. I haven't been able to find the original link to the report, but did come across a recent results of a 10 year study suggesting the recommended cholesterol levels may not be correct.

    Quite interesting:

Is the use of cholesterol in mortality risk algorithms in clinical guidelines valid?

    Conclusion

Our study provides an updated epidemiological indication of possible errors in the CVD risk algorithms of many clinical guidelines. If our findings are generalizable, clinical and public health recommendations regarding the ‘dangers’ of cholesterol should be revised. This is especially true for women, for whom moderately elevated cholesterol (by current standards) may prove to be not only harmless but even beneficial.

Morning! Italy? How lovely SHEILA54, I can never resist the gelato, especially the pistachio flavour:D.

Things are so so here, have decided to pull my socks up and get LC'ing properly. I am joining you sistercas with the cutting out sugar. Hope it goes well for you.I am awful with cakeyness and chocs so it will be hard:o. I know once I break the "need" for a sugar fix I will be able to LC much easier and enjoy it so much more too.

Had a funny turn at work yesterday.Pretty much passed out:o. I think it was a serious drop in blood pressure. My blood pressure has always been low and perhaps the sugar hits have messed with my blood sugars which may have caused this. So,I must eat proper food.

I will keep an eye on my blood pressure too and if I have another funny turn may well have to go see my GP.

B- Scrambled eggs with gooey goats cheese. Fried mushrooms with
    garlic and balsamic vinegar.
L- Ham salad with pickled peppers
    D- Not sure...:undecided

Hope you all have a good day and don't get too drowned out there. Am off to work..wellies to get on.

daska - I had athlete's foot once, my big toe went a lovely aubergine colour and you have my sympathies cos it can be painful ! (((daska)))

sheila54 -bienvenuto ! You did so well considering that Italy is a nation which lives on carbs :T

schoolhouse :T for joining sistercas in the Bin Sugar campaign ! The funny turn worries me though I think it would be a good idea if you went to see your GP or at least a nurse. ???

jm2926 I've read stuff on the Internet which alleges that when various Scandinavian countries take a position on something, other Scandinavian countries will take a diametrically opposed position and that this goes for low carb too.

There are three doctors who advocate low carb diets Dr Annika Dahlqvist who pioneered the LCHF diet in Sweden, Dr Andreas Eenfeldt, sometimes known as the Diet Doctor also in Sweden and Greek-born Dr Fedon Aleaxander Lindberg in Norway - IMO Dr Lindberg is the least low carb and most commercial doctor of the three.

I will read what the Norwegians have to say with interest so thanks for posting that :T

Got up really early for hospital appt so no breakfast. OH muddled the locations of two hospitals and we walked miles out of our way so didn't get there in time to have breakfast first. Thankfully wasn't late though. Lovely staff were really warm and efficient, including the consultant.

I gave him my latest Hb1Ac and details of medication and he seemed to think I must be on more. No says moi, I low carb - I don't drink, I don't eat any sugar, wheat or processed foods. He said " I'm impressed that you take such an interest in your own health, I wish more of my patients did " I told him that the NHS advice to eat starchy carbs doesn't actually help. I had head in a contraption and OH told me the consultant gave a wry grin.

The good news is that I don't need any treatment at the moment :jI told him that he'd made my day, nay my week and shook his hand and he gave me a blinding grin. I've got to go back and see him in January. He said if the eye has worsened we'll discuss treatment options then, but for now just keep doing what I'm doing because there is a chance that the eye will improve as my test this morning was better than the one I was diagnosed by. :j

We went to BhS for breakfast as starving then did some clothes shopping for OH before hitting the Oxfam bookshop where I found Eating Stella Style: Low Carb Recipes for Healthy Living - George Stella. :D

Pizza Hut for lunch.. I sniffed OH's pasta and it smelled wheaty to me ! Had salad and diet Pepsi but three sips and it just seemed so sweet urgh.

Sorry for the long post but being told I had sight threatening maculopathy had freaked me out because depending on type, going blind can be more than a 50% risk.

I'll just bounce off now xxx :rotfl:

Edwardia - so pleased as I know how worried you have been. Celebrate
Well done also with giving up Pepsi.

Mercy - how are you feeling having given up smoking?

sistercas and schoolhouse - good luck with the cutting out sugar :) I am still having sweetener in coffee but working on it.

I tried a piece of milk chocolate on holiday and it tasted awfully sweet so I got rid of it. Shows how your taste buds adapt.

Interested to read about cholesterol studies but have decided to keep up with the coconut oil but use olive oil instead of butter where possible and lactofree instead of cream except with almond pancakes. Retest in July so will see what happens.
