marrbett - sweet potatoes are between 20 and 35 carbs I believe, dependent upon size.
It is difficult to get Vitamin D so I supplement it, together with calcium, magnesium and zinc.0 -

It is now thought that most people in the UK have some vitamin D deficiency as it is difficult to get enough from food even if you eat lots of fish and eggs. In the US it is added to milk but I recently read that that doesn't happen here. Could you not just supplement? It is quite cheap.
I think sweet potatoes are quite high in carbs, I have cut right down on them.
bw.
Thanks, I've been reading that low levels of vit D can cause musculoskeletal pain, so I'm intrigued about boosting my daughter's. I haven't seen any for 15 year olds, only for adults. I'll have a look in Boots. Sadly, despite taking omega 3 regularly and cutting out carbs, there doesn't appear to be much difference in her pain levels, but it maybe early days yet!0 -
Hi
Bizarrely I have lost a lb this week despite eating 50 carbs a day. I had not been cutting back on other items and eaten quite well before so who knows?
Hi Sheila, I've just been reading a new purchase from Amazon 'Living Low Carb' and one of the listed reasons for stalling is cutting down on carbs TOO MUCH. You might have found your level?
Although are you still doing your extra 15-20 exercise a day? Exercise is a stimulant and a bit of extra maybe be giving you a bit extra - if you know what I mean! Keep it up.0 -

Marrbett, ask the pharmacist rather than getting something directly off the shelf, they will hopefully recommend a reliable source, some brands are better than others, i.e. actually providing what they say on the label.0 -

Lol, the pharmacist seemed alarmed when I told her it was for my daughter and was most insistent that I go to the GP rather than give her vit D!!!0 -
I'll list this again as it's a good resource for finding vits/mins/carbs/anti-inflammatory foods and a host of other stuff.....

Always try to get it done by Doc if poss. I realised that my Doc didn't even know Vit D was fat soluble so just did it myself. :rotfl:

Hi
400iu is the max size of vit D available in UK. This is due to very poor guidelines by UK nutritionist types.
From Mercola site
VITAMIN D DOSE RECOMMENDATIONS
AGE DOSAGE
Below 5 35 units per pound per day
Age 5 - 10 2500 units
Adults 5000 units
Pregnant Women 5000 units
WARNING:
There is no way to know if the above recommendations are correct. The ONLY way to know is to test your blood. You might need 4-5 times the amount recommended above. Ideally your blood level of 25 OH D should be 60ng/ml.
Larger doses are available from USA.

etc.
I use iHerb lots and have $5 off 1st order code - pm me if you want it.

Hi again
I'd suggest getting some 1000iu and some 2000iu vit D.
Start daughter on 1000iu initially and keep up for a week or two. Take with some fat in a meal to aid absorbtion. Take in morn as some find it keeps them awake if taken late.
If she seems ok with this, up to 2000iu for a couple of weeks. And I'd suggest, from Mercola's info she will likely need 3-4000iu daily when she's worked up to it.
'Adult' is likely as much to do with full growth as age. You are the best to judge this.
I would strongly recommend testing after 2-4 weeks on 3-4000iu. This will give you an idea of where she's at and where to set the level. Then maybe test in another 6 months time.
I can recommend NOW vits and Healthy Origins brands.
If you do decide to order fron USA, do remember £18 is limit for avoiding import tax.
Much love!
