bossymoo well done !! :T xx

murphydog99 I ate a lot of soya mince when we were hard up 1994-1999 and I only very recently learned what cr*p it is and that's also why I've stopped eating Quorn, which far from being made from mushrooms, is soil mould fed on glucose  By 1996 I had a lot of stomach fat but 99% of it has gone now :D

I don't eat lots of nuts because in large amounts they can be a bit carby and I find them difficult to resist. Offer me pistachios or cheesecake and I'd take the nuts. I only have one or two mugs of tea with Lactofree now at most plus a mug of hot Lactofree at night with cinnamon so I don't drink much dairy. I'm a demon for clotted cream though :)

Have been lurking around this thread for a few days now and it has been extremely informative :)
Trying to low/no carb but the more I read the more I learn how much that I have failed :)
Really doesn't help that i don't eat meat(do eat some quorn although after reading previous post I guess that is something else to knock on the head!) Don't eat dairy(allergy/intolerance) and not a huge veggie lover(although getting better) It also appears that most fruit/veg I do like is also a no no (sigh)
Tomorrow is day 7 at my poor attempt lol so will see what the scales say(although tbh I am one that still has to jump on them everyday...I know, I know)
I haven't a huge amount to lose(max 14lb) this being due to losing approx 42lb about five years ago) but I so want to lose this last bit.

I know that generally you need to eat meat/dairy/fat on this type of diet/way of eating but on one I really don't want to compromise(meat) and can't(dairy) so if any of you have any helpful suggestions...........

Nuts and eggs yes. Guess it is yes to fish too although must confess it is usually tinned tuna, smoked haddock or cod/haddock in batter(:( )

Must have eaten over a dozen eggs this week and more cans of tuna than I can remember as well as a bag of walnuts and today i bought a bag of brazil nuts that are already half gone!!!

Hi devildog ;) there's a type of low carb called Paleo or Primal and the people who eat that way basically don't eat anything that Neanderthal man wouldn't have eaten so that rules out dairy ;)

Rose Elliot and Celia Brooks-Brown both wrote low carb cookery books which you'll find on Amazon.

Eggs are really useful if you eat them. If you look on the low carb supermarket bargains thread I used to do, (took too much time), I think the lowest carb fish fingers were ASDA Chosen By You Omega 3 but I listed the carbs of loads. I think breaded/battered fish fillets may be too carby whereas fish fingers can be as low as 3.2g carbs each.

I did look at different 'diets' last week but what put me off the paleo was giving up salt and processed oils. Also considered the alternate day diet which 'could' work although the low cal days would be hardish. I guess I was hoping that I could still somehow do low carb(what helped me with first round of weight loss) only then I was eating meat and was fine with dairy!! I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place

Hi devildog, welcome on board :D

About a decade ago my dad found he couldn't tolerate cow's milk products at all but was fine with goat and sheep products and personally I've always found that dairy gives me catarrh and a thick nose - to the point that if I didn't blow it within minutes of waking up I'd risk being sick. (Sorry if TMI, just want to give some background).

    BUT!

After not consuming any cow dairy for several years, Dad's now OK with butter and cream (though he sticks to goat/sheep cheese). And since moving to low carb and finding a supplier of raw milk/cream, despite consuming far more of it, I no longer have the catarrh/thick nose.

So, depending on what effect dairy has on you, it might just be worth experimenting after you've been low carb for a while. You might find, as I have, that some things which you thought were problems really aren't, whereas some things seem to aggravate others (for me wheat and tomatos)

(Dad's been veggie for nearly 50 years but has been eating chicken/turkey this week in order to do induction more easily - he's very motivated because his GP wants to put him on statins for his cholesterol)

bossymoo - coconut oil (possibly fat generally) is very warming, if I feel cold the first thing I do is eat a teaspoon full

murphydog - I told Dr that I thought that soy was bad for thyroid, having read that it was, and she said no :D Thanks for the extra info.

bossymoo - well done at losing the weight so quickly!

    devildog
People here are great and we all try to help each other. Are you following any plan? Scrambled eggs or omelettes with mushrooms are nice for breakfast, with salad if you like it. Lunch - tuna mayo or smoked mackeral salad with half avocado and stuffed peppers with vegetables and nuts or similar in the evening. Lots of different recipes on first page. Nuts and seeds are great but too many adds up the carbs. Curry with veg is nice as well. Have you tried goats milk products as sometimes people with a dairy intolerence can get on with them? You can have sea salt and olive oil, butter and coconut oil.
Good luck and don't be afraid to ask :)

Edwardia - I'm too long in the tooth to just take things lying down and will adapt a bit but still have a little of what I fancy I think. I will wait for the retest in a couple of months. Dr did admit that eggs were ok now, though not too many. Thanks for the ((())) and the support.

sistercas - good luck with your tests, please let me know how you get on?

Mercy - how is it being back in Blighty?

sheila54 - I think soy is evil, the only traditionally eaten soy products are fermented, which deals with some of the more toxic aspects of it - but that is not how the vile stuff in the shops here is produced.
