Thanks everyone:) It was quite by chance that I found out about allergy/intolerance(not sure which but I think the latter)Everynight would wake up with blocked/streaming nose, tried the obvious shower gels/wash powder/even changed the mattress to no avail.
18 months on decided to lay off the cheese a bit, resulting in symptoms disappearing(did try some again and symptoms re-appeared) ice cream is another def trigger(even a tea spoon full)
I have considering eating chicken again and drool at the thought of beef but am holding fast at the moment.

Hi Sheila, my plan, hmm, not to eat anything I really like about sums it up :) One thing I have never tried is veg curry-what are good low carb veg to put in curry?(you did say don't be afraid to ask lol)
I guess I will take a wander to the first page and look at recipes

Cauliflower is my veg saviour! Curried, mashed, in a potato salad instead of the potato.
    Frittatas are also nice.

Sympathies about the intolerance. My little girl can't have dairy or soya, which makes things tricky. And she's not low carbing...

    Hi,

Fairly new vegan low carber here.

There is a lot of misinformation on the internet regarding soya. The longest lived people in the world live in Okinawa in Japan. They eat twice as much soya as even the rest of Japan where soya consumption is high. They eat it mainly as tofu and miso. Miso is fermented but tofu isn't, it is simply coagulated soya milk. It is also very low carb.

If you have an underactive thyroid yes, soya will make it worse and should be avoided.

Miso and tofu have been eaten in Japan for probably thousands of years, and by now the Japanese most likely have digestive enzymes adapted to eat it.

Soya in the form I ate it 1994-1999 was a highly processed and dried mince, needing to be soaked in water for several hours before use.

When a professor of endocrinology states that the human body doesn't metabolise the particular branched chain amino acids in soya well, I'm inclined to believe him.

I just worked out that I was vegetarian for actually 15 years to 1994 but didn't eat soya in any form.

Ate soya mince from 1994, stomach looked 9 months pregnant by 1996. Am convinced it was the major culprit because it was the biggest dietary change.

Nothing would induce me to believe that soya mince or TVP are healthy and having learned that Quorn is soil mould fed on glucose I am not eating that either.

In the end we weren't designed to eat all these engineered processed foods and is it really surprising that so many people end up sick ??

Off to the country for the day lovely !

Have a great day whatever you are doing xx

    Hi Edwardia,
No, I'm not a fan of soya mince particularly, although I eat it occasionally, or of processed food in general but there are a lot of websites claiming all kinds of things about soya which aren't actually true. I recently went to a talk at the Royal Society of Chemistry about research being done into soya, which was very interesting.

I think it is very important to be aware of how your body reacts to different foods, in my family we have identified some allegies that expensive tests did not show up by doing just that. Tomato skins causing headaches for eg.

I don't eat quorn because it contains eggs but I don't really have a problem eating soil mould. Mushrooms, mould and yeast are all fungi and blue cheese contains mould.

I would be interested in any links you have on soya research.
I was disappointed that some of the information at the talk wasn't on the web as it was fascinating and mostly positive.

    Have a lovely day.

I don't really use use soy products except the sauce sometimes ;-)

My littlest one is intolerant to dairy, we tried soya alternatives but she can't take those either. So I just don't buy them.

It must be really hard, excluding more than one major foodgroup. I exclude dairy obviously for her, and carbs to a large extent for me. Doing both together I think I'd find very tough.

Anyway, for me today, I'm at the paid stuff, so:
Choc oatbran loaf with a tiny scrape of philly spread (oh !!!!!! i got the chocolate one, not very carb friendly, so used about 1/3 of a mini pot, 10g sugar in each mini, yikes, very nice though, odlly. might make my own with dark choc and regular philly)
Bit of peppered ham for snack
No lunch so will go to salad bar later and have some tuna salad methinks, have brought a yoghurt for pud.
Mixed grill tonight with hm chilli bbq relish - looking forward to that! Ribs, chicken, pork steak. Might even top it off with an egg and some mushrooms...

Have a nice day all, was sunny here when I left for work at 6.30, very dismal now...

We tried using soya but didn't like it at all.

I've not been keen on Quorn either, ever since my dad, a chemist, told me how it is made. As a factory made product, it certainly isn't a 'natural' alternative to meat.

    Hi
I don't use soy, quorn or any of those items but I do eat mushrooms and a little blue cheese. Soy is bad for thyroid, checked it out ;)

Recently back from waiting in the rain to see the Queen. Must be mad but the grandchildren were pleased and there was a good atmosphere. Cold and wet waiting around so I succumbed to a Cafe Mocha and now see that it has 55 carbs  I also had a cheese and mushroom omelette with salad for lunch in a restaurant so today has not been a good one so far!!

Bizarrely I have lost a lb this week despite eating 50 carbs a day. I had not been cutting back on other items and eaten quite well before so who knows?

Just wanted to say thankyou to everyone who replied about low-carbing as cheaply as possible. I love reading this board, and am becoming annoying to my friends now, because I'm becoming obsessed with how bad carbs are!!!
I meant to ask if sweet potatoes are meant to be avoided?

Doing well at the moment, had a piece of cake for my birthday, but otherwise, not succumbing!!
I've been reading up about vitamin D and wonder if my daughter is deficient in that- has anyone managed to get their GP to blood test for vitD?

    Hi Marrbett,
It is now thought that most people in the UK have some vitamin D deficiency as it is difficult to get enough from food even if you eat lots of fish and eggs. In the US it is added to milk but I recently read that that doesn't happen here. Could you not just supplement? It is quite cheap.
I think sweet potatoes are quite high in carbs, I have cut right down on them.
