sistercas I read his first one - really hard going if you're not a biochemist or endocrinologist and I'm not. This one is supposed to be the airport reading version so I'm feeling somewhat anxious that if I buy it I'll give up reading it !
I have the ham and eggs at Wetherspoons and I once managed to get them to swap the chips for onion ringsNow I have more salad instead.

Thanks for your kind wishes Edwardia. I think i spoke too soon though, slept dreadfully last night and have felt rough all day
I guess it really does take a while for your body to adjust. It's strange, when i feel rough i normally sleep as much as possible to make myself feel better, but my sleep is so light at the moment i wake at the drop of a pin. I want my decent sleep baaack!!
I know what you mean about posting your blog..only do it if you feel comfortable, you don't have to publish it. Maybe in a few months you will want to publish it xx
I hope everyone is having a lovely day xxx0 -
Hello all,
I have been naughty. I'd dropped 4.5lb since Monday with my Dukan attack, and today I had ice cream. Grr. What did I do that for? I was so good at the carvery, only had meat and veg, shared the rest with dd. then ordered a sundae. What was that all about???
Anyway, back to it tonight, had bolognese and my oatbran and yoghurt for pudding. Just need a cuppa before bed, been up since before 5 with my littlest one. Hope she sleeps better tonight.

Well done Daska!
Hello Sistercas, nice to see you back.
Well done Sheila - it isn't always easy to be out and tempted.
Bossymoo - well done for getting straight back into it. You can stick to it.
Seems to be the day for eating out. I went to Harvester for lunch today. Had grilled salmon and green beans (added some butter) with a side salad, no desert, so was very good. The ice cream sundaes looked wonderful, but it is too early in my quest to give in just yet!!
Question for someone knowledgeable: If I am eating lots more fat, how much salt do I need to add to my diet to avoid the awful cramps I got when I lc'd for a long time? I want to stick with this, but know I won;t if I start to get cramp as bad as before.0 -
WooHoo! Just hit the 3 stone mark this morning
Shall celebrate this evening as DS2's dad rang yesterday and suggested he came round for dinner, so I warned him that I wouldn't be compromising my diet just cos he was coming round then picked up a couple of nice Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks. We'll have them with huge pile of broccoli and a cheese sauce (cheddar and philly melted in a saucepan) and finish off with berries and unpasturised, unhomogenised, gloriously yellow cream. (The weight's and excuse, I'll actually be celebrating the fact that DS2's dad has recovered enough from his own health problems and depression that he actually feels like being sociable with anyone - it's been a long hard road.)
Gloomendoom - Like sheila54 I do this with Romaine because it's lovely and strong like iceberg as well as being far higher in nutrients. (I've not tried it with Cos.)
Has anyone tried making kale chips - the only kale I can find round here is the 'ready to cook' variety which is already sliced and I was wondering if it might work with baby spinach (less prep work)? I'd be giving it a go right now except it all looked really manky
Congratulations on the weight loss!!! :-)
I've made kale chips a couple of times when I've had kale in my fortnightly veggie box and simply couldn't get through it all in any other way. Can't say I've ever seen it in the supermarkets though! Keep meaning to buy some seeds and grow some this year but need to decide what type to get first.I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

bossymoo.. 2 proper ice cream scoops of Kelly's of Cornwall clotted cream ice cream is 12g carbs, same of Wall's Classics Cornish vanilla is 11g and a portion of vanilla ice cream at Pizza Hut is 10.8g so it may not be as bad as you fear xx
Minihauk.. I think Gary Taubes suggested bouillon (eww to Marigold).. my mother drinks tonic water for cramp..no idea why though..
We're none of us perfect and though not eating sugars and starch is really important for my health I have had ice cream (Kelly's) on about 4 occasions over the last 12 weeks plus some tinned soup, couple of bags of Kettle chips and a big bag of popcorn from Blockbusters and none of it showed up on my Hb1AC. Soo though I try really hard I know I will lapse.
I now keep Lindt 90% cocoa chocolate stashed in the house along with small bags of pork scratchings and a tub of clotted cream ice cream in the freezer. If I know it's there most times now I don't need to eat it.
As far as going out is concerned, I look up stuff on the websites if a chain. Then if I know the carbs I can indulge a tad but allow for it.
Generally I'd think the plain vanilla would be OK especially if you have it with unsweetened cream, no chocolate sauce and the nuts if unsweetened, no sprinkles.
Because I don't eat sugary food I find I don't like the taste so much now and over time that may happen to you too. BUT I think artificial sweeteners do mess with the insulin response though and the taste for sweetness.0 -

"a lot" according to Michael R. Eades, M.D. Salt is covered in part 2 of his Tips and Tricks article on low carb.
Part 1
Part 2
I did see a reference, possibly in the "Art and Science..." book of half a teaspoon of salt a day, and frequently see bone broth recommended - sorry, life's too short already and as I don't like meaty soups/bovril anyway I think the idea sounds foul, so I have marmite occasionally and make sure I salt my food well.
The other tip for cramps is quinine which you can get in bitter lemon or tonic water - if you drink the diet stuff obviously - half a wine glass a day for prevention. But I used to sleep with a mixer size can at the ready as it always hit both legs at once, thats both shins and both calves at the same time!Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

you explained why my mother has tonic water thanksI put salt on eggs but that's all. So far so good - I can't bear Marmite/Bovril/Vegemite either.

daska - just had some sea salt in water and it tasted nice so drank some more. Always come up short on pottasium on fitday but supplements are not advised normally which is why they are not added to multivitamin and mineral supplements.
I used to have a couple of mugs of Marigold vegetable stock when I first started so maybe should go back to them again.
40 carbs today which is more than usual but not been feeling too great and needed some chocolate, 70% of course
Nite everyone and sweet dreams0 -
LOL @ sheila drinking salty water
Actually you're eating some of the foods highest in potassium - avocado is one and you've just 'needed' another LOL, yes, chocolate, it's up there as one of the best sources though you have to eat a bit more than a couple of squares to make a dent in the daily recommendation. Salmon and herbs are probably one of a low carber's best sources (well they're lower carb than dried apricots and pistachios) along with almonds (pistachios are quite high in carbs in comparison) LOL
night night all, it's going to be a long B/H tomorrow - I've got a little boy who is very frustrated because he can't understand why the teachers won't be at school tomorrow...Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
