Morning all. Just checking in to say that thanks to all your help, my daughter(and I) are definitely LC-ing.
We are loving the greek yogurt Sheila, so thanks for that.
She's eating at most, 2/3 rds ramekin dish of baked beans, and not every day now. She's avoiding bananas and only having strawberries and blueberries. She's also eaten a fried egg!!(hates eggs).Otherwise, its meat/veg/salad/coleslaw/cheese. What a good girl.

I'm doing it with her and have finally lost a couple of pounds, which had stalled for about 4 weeks, so all good here.

This is such a lovely thread, everyone is so supportive.
I really hope that my daughter feels the benefit in terms of reduced inflammation, but I'm becoming more and more convinced that this is the way to eat long term.:j

Skymist - I take omeprazole to knock out the stomach acid so would this be ok for me?

Well sweet lady...I'm no doc/nurse/scientist but on reading your post, I did a www search, looking for any conflict, and didn't really find anything, but....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omeprazole ...doesn't look too savory IMO, especially as you seem to be/have been on them for some time.

    These....

    http://acidrefluxcough.net/acid-reflux-natural-remedies-3/

    http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/home-remedies-for-acid-reflux/

offer more natural ways of dealing with acid reflux and both recommend the Himalayan salt.

The other thing I came across...many moons ago....is that as we age our ability to produce stomach HCL is greatly reduced, leading to greater inability to absorb nutrients from our food, and that alkalizing stomach acid therefore does us no good at all!!!Instead we should seek to increase it, as most acid reflux is not caused by increased production of stomach HCL as CW(conventional wisdom) would have us believe!!

Check it out on the web....was very surprised when I read that.....and we need stomach acid especially when eating a lot of protein as this is the only macronutrient that has to be broken down in the stomach for amino acid absorbtion. Also if one overeats...whatever the food is...it will give rise to stomach reflux, so eating to "comfortably full" might help lessen any reflux too. Hope that's of some help.

Skymist - thank you so much for doing all that research for me ((skymist)) My supposedly healthy veggie younger bro has acid reflux and high BP. Since I quit processed food found I've had no indigestion at all so far :)

marbett - congratulations :T so pleased you and DD happy with this WOE (way of eating).

Sheila54 well from my quick add up there you beat my all time record of tests by one  so that's quite a lot ! Good that your GP is being so thorough.

Morrisons planning on home delivery for 2013 (CEO interviewed on BBC) and ASDA does it. I don't drive either, everyone in my family petrolheads but after crashing a car off road at thirteen I decided horses are safer :D well, maybe not mad ex-racehorses...

Spotted on Sainsbury's website today free delivery on orders over £50 don't know if that's orders placed today or a new thing. Wasn't on there yesterday.

Re: my blog, I checked all the dashboard stuff and found that actually it is public already and 1092 people have looked at it. Not one comment though :( So now I finished tidying, if anyone wants to have a nose please PM me as don't think I'm supposed to put up blog addresses on boards. It would be good to find out whether anyone thinks it worth me carrying on doing it !

Well I'm currently sat in conservatory listening to the rain. My two tots are squeezed onto the chair opposite, one wearing a bob the builder hat and singing nursery rhymes while the other giggles. They are playing really nicely today...

Tuna and cottage cheese for breakfast
Chicken and sausage, more cottage cheese for lunch
    Yoghurt for pud
    Probably more chicken for dinner.

Decided to stick with Dukan a bit longer. I did Atkins last month and my weight just bounced around the same few pounds. I know Dukan definitely works for me, so I'll just have to be a bit more creative...

Having said that I'm out for dinner twice this week...

Tucking into late lunch of Sainsbury's Taste The Difference rib eye steak with cottage cheese and radishes on the side plus green salad.

Am asking myself why I bother with tough large grained Lidl/ASDA/Tesco rubbish which ends up in the dog. I'm sure with all the money I'm saving not buying diet Pepsi, instant coffee, sweeteners, crisps etc I think I earned this :D

Edwardia - Interesting about the lo-salt, I was never a big salt eater anyway so never got into it, but I guess it might be something to have very occasionally. I have no idea whether Himalayan salt lives up to the hype - but it definitely looks pretty. DS2's dad looked at it suspiciously on saturday and asked what on earth I'd put in the grinder, then asked what I'd added to make it pink. I'm not at sure he believed me when I said it was natural but then I don't think he's ever driven across a salt desert and seen the variety of colour. And he seemed to cope with a 'low carb' meal very well but I'm not sure he really understands as he kept checking whether I could have this or that.

sheila54 - cider vinegar is a traditional remedy for acid indigestion, I know you're not keen but...

cholesterol - if the levels come back high it might be appropriate to remind your GP that cholesterol is stored in your fat and therefore, as you're losing it your levels might be slightly higher than usual because the cholesterol is on it's way out. I think it was the Art and Science book than mentioned it really becoming noticeable at about 30lb. There's a crit of a study which investigated the effect of 'low carb' and saturated fat on blood chemistry HERE (and it's Michael R. Eades MD again).

I try not to put my kid's names in print as DS2 is reasonably unusual.

Am having fun making a pirate bedroom for him at the moment. It's nearly 20 years since I worked in home furnishings and there are all sorts of things you can get now which I didn't know about, eyelet heading tape is such fun! He's got a sort of four poster (actually a high bed with the legs on top instead of underneath) so I've found a fabric that looks like planks of wood for curtains to make it into a ship with. This morning I made a little anchor for it and used the eyelet tape to form the loop at the top for the rope to go through.
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

From size 24 to 16 and now stuck...

marbett - well done and glad that you are enjoying it as well. You are a good Mum to work this out and hope that she benefits from it :)

Edwardia - thanks for the advice and ideas about smoked salmon. Got a lift to Morrisons and bought last 2 packs. Give me a link to your website as I'd like to see it please.

daska - sounds like you are having fun decorating DS bedroom. Remember when we did a transport theme on my son's but he is now 35  Will give cyder vinegar a go when I feel brave. Really hoping that tests will all be ok to prove that I am right about low carbing!! Fasting lipids will give full range of all types of fat / cholesterol.

Skymist - hate taking omeprazole and have cut dose in half since low carbing. Did not have any for 36 hours but then I start getting pain between shoulder blades and in stomach which will go if I take it. I will look into the advice and other methods and try again as it is the only regular medication that I take and I hate pills!!

bossymoo- I love young children and they can be so delightful when happy. Let us know how you get on with Dukan and why you prefer it to Atkins?

breakfast - 2 fried eggs and half rasher bacon. Mushrooms slimy so couldn't use them.

lunch - cheese, smoked mackeral, watercress, spinach and rocket salad at my son's. No ripe avocados today !

tea - yoghurt with sesame seeds, flax - 15g & 1 oz blueberries

dinner - salmon with asparagus & broccoli + mayo.

Treat - 1 oz nuts with 2 sq chocolate and coconut oil melted and left to harden.

8pm - cocoa as I have to fast from then.

mazzers, schoolhouse, Sunnyday - how are you today?

I don't prefer it in terms of eating. I prefer Cadbury giant chocolate buttons lol.
My preference now stems only from results, I have lost 2.5st on Dukan last year. I've faffed about since as I get bored, but I've had a word with myself and I really need to do this. I need at least another 3.5st off.

I'm still randomly lurking sheila :D

Need to bite the bullet and get back to lc.

I get terrible cramps too and fitday always tells me i'm low in potassium, afraid to take salt tho with high bp.

My low potassium caused a severe problem with my heart a few years ago and it suffered some damage so i'm afraid to mess about with supplements.

Work has been horrendous, we are only six on our dept and with one person on holiday, one part time, one sick we have struggled, well now another has phoned in sick so i dont know how we will manage as no-one else is trained to do our job :(
It'll just be the two of us and a part timer :(

Fair enough, I don't know enough about Dukan myself. I have lost over 5 stone on Atkins since last June, though not much recently, and am interested to see the differences. I also want to lose another 2 stone though it could be a bit more. Cadbury's giant buttons sound nice but I made the melted chocolate with coconut oil and nuts tonight and that was really nice as well.

mazzers - you are lurking so how are you doing and have you had a good weekend? Guess our wires crossed there. Sorry about the problems that you are having but I don't think that fitday always gets the potassium right as I eat a lot of high potassium foods but it shows low. Also they say that we need 4700mg where as the UK recommendation is 3500mg I believe.
Maybe your work should realise that if the staff left become overstretched they could get sick as well and then where would they be?
