daska - LoSalt is high in potassium and people with diabetes don't deal with it well so the stuff is labelled if you have diabetes consult physician. Guess who didn't and whose potassium levels went through the roof with !! next to it on blood test. Did feel stupid explaining to doc :o.

I eat pistachios, herbs, 90% cocoa chocolate and salmon plus the occasional avocado but no bananas. Not much salt either.

Is that Himalayan salt really good or hype ?

    Salty water sheila54 you're brave. I'd be sick !!

    Wondering where Mercy is...

daska your DS is keen !

Edwardia - Mercy is on holiday I think
I put 1 tsp sea salt in glass warm water and dissolved and drank. Strangely enough it didn't taste too bad! If I get a sickness and diarrhoea, not often thankfully, I have warm water with salt and a half tsp sugar in it to correct electrolyte loss. Something from the old days and it is very similar to what they put in drips when you are in hospital.

daska - Hope that you and your little boy, what is his name?, have a good day today. At least the weather is better. Thanks for the food info. I do have salmon once a week, avocados every day - half, 1 -2 squares of 70% chocolate daily and eat a few nuts most days but fitday always shows as having under half of recommended intake. With smoked salmon being cheap in Lidl I may try having scrambled egg with a little smoked salmon for breakfast sometimes. Sounds very decadent :D

sistercas - good luck with the weight loss this week. I was advised not to have much bacon due to nitrates as they can stall but I guess it depends on where you get it.

confused76 - try having cocoa with lactofree milk before bed. It has helped me though I still wake up twice a night.

bossymoo - hope that your daughter slept better last night. How are things?

Minihauk - I don't have enough salt I know but maybe have some veg stock in water?

Angelfeathers - how do you make Kale chips please? Saw some in Lidl recently so thought I'd give it a try.

Due for fasting bloods tomorrow and then to weigh. Fingers crossed as I have been in ketones most of the time. Strange thing is that when I had the clotted cream they completely disappeared?

Have a Happy May Bank Holiday everyone :)

    Hi folks :D

    Im in Switerland :j

Not much punctuation as Im using a foreign keyboard and its a bit odd.;)

Been reading through but not much to say as Im just LCing my best. Difficult when staying with friends even though they do try. Had a barbeque last night and I did bring a massive bag full of meat and cheese with me so all good so far

The change of scene is helping with the loss of Newt and although Im a little concerned about Sherlock all alone at home, I know hes being well looked after. We have a Caspar cat here which is nice :)

Will pop in to keep up again before I get home but will post properly when I get back (next sunday)

Folk look akance when I say Im Banting. I say its a fad diet from the 1800s :rotfl:

    Be happy :j

Thanks Daska - interesting read. I'll try adding salt to my drinking water to see if I can increase my intake that way. Off to health food shop to see if I can get the supplements he recommends.

It took me 3 days to eat the choc/coconut oil/nut concoction (as if it would be a hardship....), but I have lost 5 lbs this week. I know it won't continue at this speed, but a great re-start. I have eaten tons of l*dl greek yogurt, strawberries, the above mentioned choc, as well as usual foods, so a really great start and not deprived of anything!

Weather grey and murky here, but at least it isn't raining yet.:D

Have a great lc day, all.

Gosh, I logged in, went off to read Daska's link and lots of posts whilst I was gone.

Frittata with onions fried in butter, sausage, cheese and eggs for breakfast.
Not sure what to do for lunch - I don't even think about food when I have eaten and am satisfied -great result as when I eat carbs all I think about is food!

    Morning all

Mercy - does Switzerland seem surreal to you ? Like the inside of a chocolate box or Toyland or something ? So tidy and full of wandering cows with those ruddy bells.. Like the I'm banting :rotfl:

    Minihauk - well done !

Sheila54 - Morrisons had Bleikers smoked salmon on offer.. freedom food Scottish salmon smoked in Yorkshire and were great. Lidl stuff can seem greasy rather than oily n fishy. ASDA does Smartprice smoked salmon trimmings which I buy for omelettes. Good luck for the bloods, are you doing a fasting cholesterol ?

and a message for lurkers.. please come in say hi !

    Where's the "shrug" smiley?? :rotfl:

I've bought into this....whether it's true or not...after lots of researching online, stuff like:-

    http://www.saltnews.com/chemical-analysis-natural-himalayan-pink-salt/

    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_chemical_composition_of_Himalayan_salt

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Himalayan_salt

    http://www.healthcentral.com/diet-exercise/c/299905/118575/importance?ic=800101

I find it less "salty" iyswim, and use it on eggs, meat and fish, if these don't contain any salt ie. not on smoked salmon, nor tinned fish etc.

Since I started using more salt than that advocated by "conventional wisdom", I no longer have night cramps, and as I'm a zero-carb eater ....except those found naturally within my food such as in eggs and liver.... it is my only source of chloride from which my body can produce stomach hydrochloric acid, so it's also stopped the indegestion that I used to have, and the pink Himalayan stuff I have does seem to have extra minerals besides NaCl....so a mini-bonus too. :D

I also had the good fortune of coming across both an electric rock crystal lamp and a candle lit one in charity shops too!!

Edwardia - fasting lipids (full range cholesterol), creatinine, electrolytes, liver profile, bone profile, gamma GT, thyroid function, ferritin, serum B12, serum folate, FBC, ESR, egfr - won't have any blood left :D She told me that she is being thorough as I really want to stay with this. Glad that she cares but hope that they all come back ok.

Thanks, I will check out the smoked salmon but Morrisons and Asda are 6 miles form me and I don't drive.

Skymist - I take omeprazole to knock out the stomach acid so would this be ok for me?

    Minihauk - well done !!
