Caffeine is an odd one for me. If I let it get out of control it becomes a nightmare, hence how I know withdrawal is a b****. But at the same time I have poor circulation and a cup of coffee helps me sleep, bizarre I know but that's me all over, I'm a square peg.

I try to ring the changes but I'm a cheap date as I mainly drink water. Thank you for reminding me about cider vinegar, it ran out a few months ago and you talking about it has prompted me to put it on the shopping list.

Me talking about cider vinegar made me realise I need some too. You mentioning it means I will get some at the weekend :rotfl:

Have heard that keeping ourselves alkaline helps lots. Cider vinegar is alkalising - apparently. Cancer can't survive in an alkaline environment. Apparently. Not quite finished researching in these directions, but that is why I started eating grapefruits. Then I just liked grapefruits. :rotfl:

    Sweet dreams

Cider vinegar, any vinegar, is dilute acetic acid. The opposite of an alkali.

    Well that's what I thought.

The ultimate pH action of a food on the body is to test it once it has undergone oxidation. That's how we process foods - using oxidation.

    http://www.brightonhealthy.com/storage/alkaliacid%20chart.pdf

Little list of foods which are ultimatelyAlkaline or Acidic.

That's why apple cider vinegar and lemon juice are ultimately alkalising.

That's why lemon juice can reduce heartburn.

Anyway, I'm a sceptical chemist so I expect you to do your research too. Prove me wrong, I dare you :) :rotfl::D

    Interesting link.

I'd like to see how he/she determines which food "alkalise" the body.

My dad's an analytical chemist. He may know.

It's done by the ash test. The pH of the resultant ash gives a result which determines the oxidised pH of the compound under test.

    Simples :)

    Hi
    :hello:

This and the links on the page give a lot of information about the acid alkaline balance
    http://www.livestrong.com/article/272534-how-to-make-a-bodys-ph-alkaline/

I have spent the last year trying to get a balance but my urine remains persistently very acidic. Having said that, anything with acid i.e. vinegar, lemon juice etc upsets my stomach unless I disguise it in food. It also seems that pottasium plays its part and fitday never shows that I get enough.

nuttybabe - the volcano sounds spectacular! Thanks to Mercy for the idea! When my kids were young I sometimes used to plates with mash, veg hair, carrot eyes etc to get them to eat healthily. Quite fun and they also liked to make their own faces if you gave them the ingredients. Decorating pizza bases was fun as well.

    sistercas - sleeping any better?

Had 4 low carb chocolate cakes yesterday so went up to 50 carbs.
    Must try harder today.

Have a great day and bossymoo - enjoy your holiday :)

Mercy - it would be a little one each. my kids, share :rotfl: cant wait to make them now (i just prefere to do creative stuff than housework stuff :rotfl:) gonna have to make one for me as well with cauli mash if i can get it thick enough. :D

Shelia - they quite often make their own pizza but dd will pile everything on it and then refuse to eat it! :p

daska - i think i will just reduce everyone's carbs gradually and sneak in more veg. hubby needs to as well even though he wont admit it! will make mash with pot & cauli (not made that for a while). i try to make alot of homemade stuff like the yogurt and did make bread but it was too hard for the kids too eat not light and fluffy like supermarket bread! :( so when i stopped eating bread i started to buy it again. might try again with a different receipe.

i must have missed the post about cider vinegar. what does that do (i actually have a bottle that i bought for a reciepe and never used).

my girls are doing slimming world :(, they have tried lcing but they wanted treats like their friends and have decided to do sw instead, i will keep plugging at them though ;)

there seems to be so much technical stuff around lcing, acid / alkaline, leptin , blood sugar/ dawn phenomenon, IF , supplements
i is a bit confused :o , i do read around the subject so i hope ive got a basic handle on it at least, but you lot are like LC einsteins :T i learn something new nearly everyday from this thread.

    Morning all !

I'm reading Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser and OMG I'm never visiting USA again. I'm surprised half the population isn't dead with food poisoning. The lack of food safety is absolutely appalling.

Mercy.. aw shucks yer making me blush now, never been told I'm amazing before but um yep the opinionated bit is right er ahem.. Mercy's mother gets a :j:T:staradmin for the volcano !

OH overdid the ice cream portion last night and <those of squeamish disposition look away now> it came back up. Weirdly my body doesn't let me OD on carbs. GP says it's psychomatic but nope I lurve clotted cream ice cream...

Call me stubborn I'm not drinking diluted vinegar eww sorry Mercy. sheila54 I'm definitely not an Einstein, I flunked chemistry, biology and physics at 13 ! It does get a tad confusing at times. I don't know about the acid/alkali thing myself.

Daska I just bought a book called Hidden Dangers in What We Eat and Drink by Jan de Vries. It seems to be aimed at mothers and mentions a whole load of stuff to avoid feeding children: MSG, gelatine, calcium caseinate, hydrolysed vegetable protein, textured protein, monosodium glutamate, hydrolysed plant protein, yeast extract, L-cystine, glutamate, autolysed plant protein, yeast food or nutrient, glutamic acid, sodium caseinate, autolysed yeast, natural flavours, spices and seasonings.

Jan de Vries quotes The Hyperactive Childrens Support Group of Great Britain as recommending avoidance of tartrazine, sunset yellow, benzoic acid, amaranth, red 2G, brilliant FCF, carmine, quinoline yellow, FCFV, carmoic acid, sulphur dioxide, potassium nitrate, BHT, caramel, cochineal, sodium benzoate, sodium nitrate, indigo and BHA

Anyone know what eleuthero is please ? It's supposed to correct blood sugar metabolism.
