sistercas - I don't find sofa beds any good unless they have a proper mattress as the foam ones just give way. The clic clac beds are also ok

Edwardia - don't think I could drink diluted vinegar either! You really must not stop posting as I like reading them and find them helpful!!!
I really would like to know what you all use to sweeten cakes when cooking please?
Breakfast - scrambled egg, bacon (1 rasher) and mushrooms
Lunch - chicken, cheese and tuna salad with mayo0 -
Oh gosh thank you sheila54, I'm sure I don't know as much as Mercy though.
I had free range eggs fried in EV olive oil with mushrooms by OH (his birthday has day off) think I need to get splatterguard for the ghee. Tis totally yummy tho.
Lunch might be down the pub as His Nibs' birthday so that would mean er double fried free range eggs again with Wiltshire ham and salad (only thing I can eat at Wetherspoons).
Off in search of Indian spices have a great day !! xx0 -
i have the mixed grill at wetherspoons with salad or steak and salad , I am going out for lunch too not sure where yet probably a local cafe , so i think my options will be limited .
sheila thanks for the links , i like the look of those0 -
Call me stubborn I'm not drinking diluted vinegar eww sorry Mercy. sheila54 I'm definitely not an Einstein, I flunked chemistry, biology and physics at 13 ! It does get a tad confusing at times. I don't know about the acid/alkali thing myself.
Daska I just bought a book called Hidden Dangers in What We Eat and Drink by Jan de Vries. It seems to be aimed at mothers and mentions a whole load of stuff to avoid feeding children: MSG, gelatine, calcium caseinate, hydrolysed vegetable protein, textured protein, monosodium glutamate, hydrolysed plant protein, yeast extract, L-cystine, glutamate, autolysed plant protein, yeast food or nutrient, glutamic acid, sodium caseinate, autolysed yeast, natural flavours, spices and seasonings.
Jan de Vries quotes The Hyperactive Childrens Support Group of Great Britain as recommending avoidance of tartrazine, sunset yellow, benzoic acid, amaranth, red 2G, brilliant FCF, carmine, quinoline yellow, FCFV, carmoic acid, sulphur dioxide, potassium nitrate, BHT, caramel, cochineal, sodium benzoate, sodium nitrate, indigo and BHA
Anyone know what eleuthero is please ? It's supposed to correct blood sugar metabolism.
My grandma always recommended vinegar as a remedy for heartburn. Seems counterintuitive but it's been a household remedy for a long time. I know there are claims that it's bunkum but TBH you would have to wonder why so many people swear it works if it doesn't? Heartburn isn't exactly a pleasant symptom and doesn't tend to be shortlived so you would expect them to notice whether it went away or not. Incidentally, I get heartburn if I drink hot drinks from vending machines in the UK. I think it must be something to do with what they put in the powdered milk substitute (on the basis that I never got it from the hot drink machines when I was working in Italy). Any other ideas?
Gosh, what a list, but as I read it I can see that DS2 actually eats virtually nothing on it - at home at least! The exceptions are yeast/extract i.e. bread/marmite.
Eleuthero is the supplement formerly known as Siberian Ginseng.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Hi everyone
still sticking to it, the headaches have gone away, but I am drinking around 3 litres a day of water... is this too much?
I am feeling abit intimidated by the science on this thread! lol and like I am missing out important stuff on my diet.
last nights tea was chicken breast, mushrooms and asparagus
Today for breakfast I had 1 egg, chicken legs for lunch, some cheese as a snack and for tea I will be having chicken.
I have been to asda and tried to widen the varity of veg
I have purchased pac choi sp? brocoli, cauliflower, cabbage, aspargus.
meat wise sirloin steak, bacon, turkey breasts lamb chops and chicken.
I have a weird adversion to fish even though I havn't really tried alot, I think its just the smell/ look. I want to wean myself onto this as I know it is great for you and would be good to have something other than meat. Can anyone reccommend some starter fish lol like to get me going, something not too fishy lol
I have bought some tuna and think I will throw it into an ommlette to disguise it
do i need to be taking some supplements on this diet? I don't understand the acid/alkaline thing you are referring too0 -
Well guys, this is probably my last post until the week after next, as we jet off on hols tomorrow. I'm planning on eating, and more importantly drinking, whatever I fancy and to hell with the rest of it. And will get back on the wagon as soon as I return.
Having said that, I know I feel better if I don't overdo the carbs so I suspect the "what I fancy" MIT have changed since I last went abroad. I was veggie then anyway, lol.
Thinking about it, I never put on so much weight as when I didn't eat meat.
Hmmm
See ya's

bossymoo - have lots of fun but be aware that, if you don't try a bit, you may end up feeling under the weather, at least I do
mummyofboys - yes you should take a vitamin and mineral supplement until you increase what you are eating. Veg and salad are a must to balance things and oily fish gives healthy omega 3. Do you like shellfish or can you disguise some fish in a pie with veg? This looks nice

Maybe the boys would like it to?
Drinking water really helps and 3 litres is good. You should start to feel better now and be over the worst. I would say that one egg for breakfast, on its own, wasn't enough but others may disagree. Did you have anything with it?
hannoja - see you lurking, I love that word, how are you doing?
sistercas - I have always wanted mixed grill when out but felt it too indulgent. Now it is just right and I'm loving it!!
daska - I take omeprazole for stomach problems but read this
http://heartburn-acidreflux.com/heartburn-acid-reflux/lemon-juice-heartburn-remedy. If I could come off it I'd be so happy so may try it sometime.
Finding it interesting to read all of the info from Mercy, Edwardia, daska murphydog999 etc. - we are learning a lot.
schoolhouse - how is the new job?0 -
mummyofboys if you go to the fresh fish counter at ASDA you'll find there's a selection of fish which you can buy on a 2 for £4 and the fishmonger will do all the preparation for you - it's all included in the price - you just have to choose which butter (low carb) and whether you want the packaging for oven or microwave and then just bung in microwave/oven and eat
The spinach & ricotta-stuffed trout (low carb) 2 for £4 used to be really good but the last one I had tasted overpoweringly of garlic puree so unless you lurve garlic you might want to give that one a miss.
Off the top of my head I can't remember all the fish in the offer but sea bass and rainbow trout are fairly mild. Tuna is a really strong tasting fish - I'm an ex chef and I can't bear the stuff even fresh.
Morrisons has a really good fish counter with a great range of fish. Dabs have a lovely delicate flavour and are really cheap but have lots of bones.
Any of the supermarkets will prepare fish for you, they can even fillet it so there aren't any heads, tails, fins or bones. You pay for the fish not what they do to it for you.
Have a look at the fresh sauces near the fish counter which you just heat and serve - some of them will be low carb. The packet ones tend to be too carby.
There are also a few frozen fish ready meals which are just fish + sauce which are around 10g carbs per 100g. Birds Eye and Young's both do them.
OH and moi been indulgently watching DVDs and catch-up but I've made an appt to see health trainer next week. My PCT (although these are disappearing so it's all confusing) let's you have six free motivational sessions to help you deal with losing weight, giving up smoking or getting into exercise - I used to be sporty and now I'd rather watch DVDs0 -
my heartburn stops the minute i low carb
had a turkey roast dinner for lunch , ignored the yorkie and roasties all bar one small onetwas lovely
DD2 has just made some mini sponge cakes sandwiched with white chocolate spread and i really want onethey smell lovely
ive had chicken with pesto and a slice of mozzerella with cauli and broc for tea
i know people say coconut oil is good for you but i dont like cooking with it as it flavours the food and i cant eat it by the teaspoon , so i have made some coconut chocolate by melting 85% choc and coconut oil in equal measures and eat a couple a day and they are lovely
sunny hope you are ok hon xx0 -
sistercas I bought some coconut oil, sure it would be great for korma dishes but yep it's no good for egg and mushrooms ! I wouldn't want to adulterate my Lindt 90% I like it as is. I did see a low carb recipe somewhere called pistachio bark and basically you spread out pistachios on baking tray and pour melted choc on top - may try that one day.0
