Kids need so much energy I think if I had any, I'd try to give them slow carbs, no sweets or crisps, no cakes, digestive biscuits, reduced salt & sugar baked beans, reduced sugar & salt tomato ketchup, and try and make veg imaginative..[/QUOTE]

so the better of the carbs then. i am trying to do that. :Dimaginative veg - when they were younger i used to make spinach trees and make sausage, mash and peas into space rockets or sharks! :rotfl: luckily, now they will eat pretty much what i give them.

Wow we are busy today! I generally don't tell people I lc unless I know they are reasonably open minded. Luckily I've lost enough to say "inyerface" if they make silly comments. If its someone I know wouldn't approve I just tell them it's stress from bereavement! I know it's naughty to play on it, but it usually shuts them up...

As for the forums, I only post here and on old style. People can be quite scathing in their comments so I keep to my trusted threads.

Gosh you've all been busy posting so I may have to do this in chunks..
You are amazing - you can be bothered

Mercy - Thanks for the kind words xx

If Ancel Keys wasn't dead I'd have him No1 on a hit list, this whole low fat mantra is because of his completely flawed research.

Seconded! I'd get a goodly band together, but as you say - he's dead.

Cider vinegar.. I've decided to make a salad dressing rather than stand in the kitchen trying to take it with a teaspoon eww .

Another book I bought is about Ayurveda Indian medicine. I'm not into homeopathic medicine like my mother on the other hand I'll happily chuck a few seeds in a dish eg methi (fenugreek) seeds and see what happens.

Can you see how much we want you you lovely opinionated woman!

Cider vinegar - You really must dilute it :) This isn't about suffering :) I use 1 tbls in 1 pint of water by my bed. It does taste better than tap water but not of much,

I too will chuck seeds on a wet tissue (like cress at school) and see what happens. Well sprouts happen :)

Been secretly mentioning cress to so many people lately - all taken by reminicence - LOL

Last year I bought 6 washing up bowls and 1 big bag of compost. To this I added (after drilling holes in WUbowls) Ready sprouted 6x plants at £1.00. My plants were Mustard x2, red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce, red chard type thing x2.

Not necessarily the cheapest veg on the plot but I grew my own lunch salads for months!

And cliche whatever they tasted bloody good! Much nicer than shop bought and actually not always available in the shops.

Live it, love it, find reasons to love it more :)

    LOLs lots

when me and sista were 8 - 7 we got green mash on occasion cos mum was mental.

What was really good though was cottage pie a la volcano.

All normal coloured foods for a kick off :)

You were presented with a volcano. The outer body of the volcano was made of mash, the meat was inside, the carrots spilled down the side as lava.

Trust me, eating as a child was an exciting experience!

I know back then women had more time but my mum often presented us with amazing foods (normal + presentation)

We ate everything she put in front of us. It always tasted lovely and occasionally it was just amazing!

I've got my ability to try anything foodwise from both my Mum and Dad - Dad if its really unusual, Mum if it's a funny colour

so what sort of stuff do you give your ds2?

i have been wondering about my kids. they are 7, 6 and 4. Bearing in mind their father has lots of carbs so they tend to eat the same. they have cereal or toast for breakfast (i did get them having omelette for a while but it didnt last although i can push it again if you think i should), ham sandwich for lunch with raisens, cheese block, jelly or homemade yogurt and for tea they have the same as me but with potatoes or pasta. they are not overweight and are very active. i do notice if they have high sugar they go loopy. especially ds1, if he has coco pops his eyes go funny and then he is like a whirlwind! obviously i dont want to put them on a diet (i know how that can damage a child) and have cut down on their potatoes and upped their veggies without them noticing but i dont want them getting bad habbits now that will carry on later in life.

DS2 (4) has been 'difficult'...! Largely because he's special :D he has severe language problems, sensory problems and he's probably ASD/ADHD. And I have CFS/ME which until SS upped my level of support meant preparing food was a real challenge. Especially when DS2 would then only eat white food or would eat everything but yellow - it changed on a daily basis. Apparently it's not uncommon for ASD kids to be carb loving, and some people have had success in mitigating symptoms by using various types of low carb /restrictive diets google GAPS for an example - kids can cope with low carb as well, apparently a ketogenic diet can be very successful in treating certain types of epilepsy.

Generally he gets what I get. He has school lunches but is limited to fruit, no dessert. In the morning he loves toast and weetabix and crunchy nut cornflakes - only on sundays - but I'm trying to wean him onto boiled eggs and soldiers etc. I can't do it overnight. Supper will generally be a small amount of fish or meat and veg that he likes. He has even been known to eat courgette noodles but he's not overly keen, if he sees what it is he kicks off because he wants the real deal. I've never given my kids squash or juice on a regular basis, it's water or sometimes milk, anything else is a treat. We make biscuits every now and then, I have a recipe which is very like digestives but less sweet - I'm starting to sub some of the flour with almond meal. It's a slow process but the carbs are reducing gradually. Ooh, feeling hungry now I'm talking about food!

I make my own stock cube, bread, butter, jam etc so I know there's nothing nasty in it even if I won't eat it myself. Think I might have a go at making my own ghee again - last time I tried to make some it exploded so I've bought tinned since but maybe I'm feeling brave...

I don't think I made this clear - we each had our own volcano :)

But if a group of children were presented with a volcano! WOOOOO! n WOW!

Do it how you feel. Maybe they share a massive volcano then when they get bigger they get their own :)

Like I say, my Mum had time on her hands :rotfl:

What was really nice (looking back) was that our food was high on her priorities :) Nothing to do with her being bored n arty at all :)

Hi daska! I'll not try that then:)

I've got off the caffeine wagon very easily. At work me n 1 other used to drink coffee from a percolator all day (min 12 months of doing this 5 times a day - quite strong). about 5 months ago I said 'no more'. I still have a fully caffeinated coffee brew in the morn before I leave but went onto green tea at work.

Did not have a caffeine withdrawal time at all. There's a bit of caffeine in green tea but not as much as in normal tea. I've just got on with that since. I (am) was a great friend of caffeine but green tea is sweeter as natural and after the first week I've never looked back. Never used a sweetener. Did alternate with another tea, Twinings - cleanse- don't buy into the 'cleanse' bit of it but it is nice and quite sweet on it's own.

Considering quite how fond of caffeine I still remain - I do not understand other folks probs with cutting 80% of it out. I do love the rush but don't miss it. Maybe it's because I can separate sections of my life? I am now a positive Angel at work :A

No caffeine (except 1 each morning during the week and about 3 at weekends from coffy) but just 3 green teabags a weekday isn't much is it?), no sugar, no sweeteners, no cigarettes ()

Sectioning isn't available to all as easily. But we could all use this idea in some way, just have to be inventive.

    Big love
    MX

Caffeine is an odd one for me. If I let it get out of control it becomes a nightmare, hence how I know withdrawal is a b****. But at the same time I have poor circulation and a cup of coffee helps me sleep, bizarre I know but that's me all over, I'm a square peg.

I try to ring the changes but I'm a cheap date as I mainly drink water. Thank you for reminding me about cider vinegar, it ran out a few months ago and you talking about it has prompted me to put it on the shopping list.
