mazzers - how many carbs and how much calcium in the Greek yoghurt please?

Edwardia - Glad you are feeling better and good for you not needing sweet things. I am trying to drink decaff without sweetener but finding it not as nice :(

bossymoo - you have dinner early. Do you have a snack later?

How is everybody today - Mercy, nuttybabe, hanojah, daska, schoolhouse and those I have missed out

Having a spate of meals out - had aubergine with mozzarella and tomato sauce for lunch but was probably high in carbs. I wish that they had put the nuitrition info on the menu but, other than salad, it seemed the best option.

Dinner - salmon with cauliflower, broccoli and dsp mayo.

Thanks to both of you for the information. I am trying to up the calcium intake without overdoing the carbs so these would be great! Do you know if either of them are probiotic please? Always a good idea to do the gut a favour, especially as mine seems to play up a lot.

Does that mean with live bacteria ? If so the answer for the full fat Total is yes. The website says which ones. I admit I know zilch about bacteria other than a bacterium divides every 20 minutes !

    morning all

just back from 2 days in chester, had a great time visited the zoo and aquarium.
i have realised i am properly addicted to sugar :( couldnt find a l c meal on the menu ( travelodge limited menu) so ended up having pulled pork and potato pie with colcannon mash - it was nice followed it with the biggest bag of maltesers you have ever seen. then at breakfast which was part of the deal , had sausage ,egg and bacon but then had 3 slices ofwhite toast and jam then continued to eat processed carbs until i went to bed last night:( i literally couldnt stop eating and didnt feel full at all
back on it this morning , put 3lbs on

I get l!dls greek yoghurt its yummy .
I have read about artificial sweeteners and try not use them too much ,i do use it in baking though and i do buy the atkins bars for work sometimes too i would ideally like to eat a natural unprocessed diet but in this day and age its hard

    Hi
sistercas - lots of carbs there but I had lunch out yesterday and reckon that I had 75g due to lunch out and the tomato sauce with the aubergines . Must be really good today :)

I will try the greek yoghurt from Lidl but really need the probiotics as well. Thanks for the info mazzers, sistercas and Edwardia :T

I have been researching sweeteners for the past 2 hours and have come up with the following
    aspartame - definitely no
sucralose (splenda) - need to stop using due to manufacturing process
stevia - seems the best of the bunch but I will only use it when cooking. Stevia is a very sweet plant based product but still has reported side effects.

Canderel Stevia has malodextrin added, Truvia has erythritol so neither pure but think malodextrin seems slightly better than erythritol so will go with that.

Has anyone else tried these and had any problems?

Out with the grandkids again today so must have a salad for lunch.

Have a good day everyone ;)

Sheila54 have a look at Kara dairy free coconut milk with added calcium, Sainsbos has on offer at 99p for 1 litre until 24/04/12. The bacteria in Total are L. Bulgaricus, S.Thermophilus, L. Acidophilus, Bifidus and L. Casei - it might work out cheaper to have one yogurt with extra calcium and the healthy bacteria. Total doesn't have any additives either.

I've tried Canderel and Hermesetas. Hermesetas have a bit of an aftertaste but you get used to it. Canderel is really sweet but I switched to Hermesetas because I started reading that it was a bit iffy. I'm convinced that it's the Canderel in Diet Pepsi which gets me addicted. OH says I get mood swings and haven't since I switched to Hermesetas. Now given up totally but Co-op tea tastes pretty horrible !

sistercas, I nosed at the Bar Cafe PDF and I admit there wasn't much on the menu:

Tomato and Jersey cream soup without the baguette 2.95 (mmmm)
Lamb shank without the mash or chips 8.95 (seems expensive for that ?)
Piri piri half roast chicken with salad garnish without the chips, mash or sauces 7.95 (like piri piri mmm)
    Side salad £1
    Seasonal veg £1

These seemed the lowest carb options. I've found that if you smile sweetly and tell the waitperson that you have food intolerances they'll often swap the chips, mash n sauces stuff for salad at no extra cost. I've also been able to swap onion rings for the chips on the basis that onions themselves are lower carb than chips (don't eat those either now though).

Yep eating out is a pain I've been in Sainsbury's cafe and there's been nothing on the menu I can eat. At least if I get dragged into Pizza Hut I can eat salad. On my blog I've put up lowest carb things at Leon, EAT, Pret A Manger, Paul, Wimpy, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Zizzi, Prezzo and McDonald's so far.

    just lost a post

edwardia i did look at the chicken on the menu but it was cooked in piri piri and i dont like things very spicy and the onion rings were also hot and spicy , i would like to check out your blog do you have a link to it please? i went into pret a manger yesterday but it looked as if it was all sandwich type meals but i couldnt see everything as the queue was huge so i came out

sheila glad your bloods came back ok

had a better day foodwise , ive had liver for tea ( it was a ready meal though as i cant bear to look at raw liver ) i just ditched the mash that came with it .
i have noticed a resurgence of my heartburn today following my carb blow out - hopefully that will disappear soon
