maybe its just me , but is anyone else trying not to / avoiding processed foods ? I can't help thinking that eating foods that are low carb , but processed defeat the whole object in some way
We rarely eat processed foods, mostly freshly cooked, my youngest son would eat a nice fresh stir fry every night!
I'm not averse to a blob of ice cream on my strawberries now and again, and a couple of slices of bread from a loaf i can freeze is better than having high carb junk when i'm in a hurry and haven't baked my own, it will depend on price, i'm not paying ott for a loaf of bread.0 -
edwardia happy birthday hope you are well enough to celebrate :bdaycake:0

Edwardia - a Happy 50th Birthday
I hope that you are feeling well enough to celebrate _party_
pelirocco I mostly cook from scratch as I like to know what I am eating but will buy a ready meal on the odd occasion.
Really cross as I put on 3lb this week and all I did was eat a few chocolates on Sunday. Been good since so will have to hope to lose next week!!
How are we all? Wonder if hanojah is watching as she hasn't posted for a while?0 -
Happy Birthday from me too :beer:0

Belated Happy Birthday from me too.
I have put on loads this week. It's either
a a cheaty pudding on sunday
b the addition of nuts in the form of a bit of baking with ground almonds (only having small portions per day) or
c those naughty atkins bars
I see the debate about processed foods. On my at home days, I do tend to cook from scratch, and I batch cook. But on my in the office days, I need something portable and quick. So the benefit of having a bar for breakfast is very appealing. Although I am wondering if I'm better starting the day with more of a protein hit. Scrambled eggs just don't travel well for 40mins...
So, any portable breakfast ideas that are high on the protein front will be welcome. Having said that, I'm off until Monday now. Might make some crustless quiche with bacon, lc sausage, mushroom and a bit of tom. I don't think they are at their best frozen and defrosted, but in the absence of a better idea...
Happy lc'ing all

Aww thank you all for the birthday cake and wishes xxx Feeling much better today after long sleep thank you.
Watched some YouTube videos last night from Gary Taubes and Dr Robert Lustig. I quit using sugar in 1985 and now I'm quitting using sweeteners (chucked in landfill bin) after Dr Lustig replied in a Q & A that he doesn't discuss artificial sweetners because there just isn't enough research for him to feel sure that he can prove anything he says about them. All he would say is that when the sweet taste hits your tongue, it sends a message to the brain saying expect sugar but when the sweetener hits the stomach it doesn't register as sugar.
OH bought me a low carb Muller Light vanilla yogurt yesterday. Low carb supposedly but tasted horribly sweet and when I looked the second ingredient after yogurt was fructose. So not having those.
Will be examining what's in that clotted cream ice cream and the fish fingers ! Thinking about getting my own ice cream maker ..or just freezing pots of Rodda clotted cream :rotfl:
Got the wok out today and did myself a pile of stir fry veg for brunch
Hope you're all well !
I haven't investigated the Atkins bars in Boots yet, but looking at them on the Boots website I do start thinking eww at ingredients. I'm inclined to think it was the pud bossymoo.
It seems to me from what Gary Taubes was saying about low carbing, that a common mistake people make is upping protein not fat and some of the protein does convert to glucose. So more clotted cream for me yo !! :rotfl:0 -
Glad you are feeling better Edwardia
I bought a small pot of clotted cream in Aldi today after reading your posting but will eat it over a few days, I hope!
I have been reading up on sweeteners and am not happy with what I read. Have been using Splenda but says it is similar to pesticide in the way that the molecules are changed. I can manage without it for drinks but what about cooking?
Don't worry too much bossymoo as I put on 3lb this week as well but guess I will put it down to Easter and chocolate as I did have a few (10) truffles  If you look at the Atkins manual it tells you to reintroduce one thing at a time in OWL to see what happens. Maybe almonds, Atkins bars etc were too much all at once. How about egg mayonnaise and slice ham with some salad for breakfast. You could make it up in advance? Alternatively cheese with an avacado or 1 ryvita?
I got my blood results today for diabetes & liver function and was pleased to be told that I do not have diabetes and the other results were ok :j Now I just have to work on the thyroid function that I have to repeat next month.
Had 2 miracle brownies yesterday, substituting half almond meal for flax. Same thing happened again and I was tight chested and achy so guess that I really have a problem with flax, which is a pityI also made a delicious low carb cottage pie tonight and the whole family really enjoyed it. Very full now.
How has everyone been today? x0 -

Do you mean low fat/cal?
Never seen a low carb Muller.
If you want a muller style yogurt, get the big bucket of Lidl greek yogurt, it's only £1.29 for a huge tub, defrost some frozen berries (i add splenda) blob on the yogurt and sprinkle with a few chopped nuts.. truly delish.
Bosssymoo i sometimes have a lc protein shake for brekkie if i'm in a rush.0 -

They aren't marketed as such mazzers but some of the yogurts are less than 10g carbs per 100g.
Thankyou Sheila54 feeling much better today but what horrible weather, the lab is refusing to go out for a walk.Great news that you don't have diabetes :T I've not had Splenda but the pesticide thing doesn't surprise me. One of my meds is a sulfyronea and they are used as herbicides. I.ve done some digging and found an alternative to present to my GP with research summaries
I don't bake so no puddings, bread or cakes. My Achilles heels are Kettle Chips and Ginni's Bombay mix. Yeah, I'm strange
Take Quorn though. it's a soil mould (nothing to do with mushrooms), grown in silos, fed on glucose and vitamins.. processed food. I'm not convinced any of it is healthy..0 -
Mmm just had a lovely early dinner of salmon fillets in garlic butter with a salad of little gems, cucumber, orange pepper, avocado and creamy coleslaw. It was delicious. Followed by a few chunks of diabetic chocolate gawd I just can't stop the sweet stuff...Bossymoo
