At last, low carb real bread soon, although at 9g per slice it's still too high for my liking (unless its a rather large thick slice) if they get a brown slice 2g lower it'd be ok... the ice cream sounds promising tho.

Got a loaf baking, found a slightly different recipe which included an egg and more yeast, so if it's any good i'll post a recipe.

Also found a recipe for tortillas but they are really pancakes, nice with cherry da-vinci syrup on tho :)

Edited to say DRAT.. it sunk at the last hurdle :rotfl:
I thought it seemed a bit wet once i added the egg... still edible though and nice taste so will cut back on the liquid next time

Question for the bakers.. I've been looking through savoury recipes and feel that I can sub finely chopped mixed nuts for breadcrumbs as topping. But what can I sub 1 tablespoon or dessertspoon of plain flour in a sauce with please ? Also, what can I use instead of 1 tsp cornflour ? I'm loathe to throw out recipes I used to enjoy for 1 dsp flour or 1 tbsp to roll stuff in before frying,

    Would soy flour work ?

Also read that apple cider vinegar is supposed to lower blood glucose so I'm using it in vinaigrette now. Anyone else used it ?

    Thanks !! xx

Btw the Lakeland julienne peeler looks similar to the Vogue julienne speed peeler 1.99 at www.nisbets.co.uk These peelers are not as safe as a knife it's pretty easy to slip with them trying to get them to dig into the surface and cut a finger.. my mother bought me one, probably from Lakeland.

    Hi all

I made two more huge moussakas today I think I'm addicted lol. Had no eggs though, so I thickened cream with a dab of cornflour for the white sauce. Tis very nice. Left in low oven of ages, cheese topping gone all lovely and chewy...

Also made the famous mse twinks hobnob recipe today. Full of flour oats and sugar lol. Never made them before but they were nice, I had a little nibble, shared one with dd. we were having half each, but I only got one bite before she took it off me, so I guess she liked them. The rest were left at DS friends house, where we'd gone for a playdate. They did smell wonderful. Have another batch of dough in th freezer, for another time.

Edwardia i reckon soy flour would be fine to roll things in before frying, it has a similar consistency to cornflour, not sure what to use as a sub for plain flour tho have alook here.

I ended up having dessert yesterday and now i feel bloated and full and horrible. so drinking lots of water and will stick to light meals when i get hungry.

i found a app for my smart phone. my fitness pal. you put in what you eat and it works out your calories, fat and carbs. and it was FREE. :D although not sure how long i can be bothered to actually do it, but if i stop losing again i might use it to find out why. :D

    I think it's a grey area..

I'm not on a temporary weight loss diet, so I won't be returning to a *normal* WOE. If I can eat two fish fingers (3.8g carbs each) with my fried eggs or two scoops of clotted cream ice cream (12g) as a pudding occasionally I just have more options.

I do think 9g a slice is on the high side of low carb and I wouldn't buy it unless my OH decided to try low carbing. I'm not a bread n cakes addict myself and I wouldn't do home-baking either unless OH converts as it were.

I wouldn't buy ready meals and I don't eat takeaways. I don't like fast food but I have made a note of a few things I can eat in case I'm forced on a family outing to Pizza Hut (my mother loves it eww ).

I think end of the day we have to make low carb work for us, in our life circumstances or we won't stick to it. In principle I'm really against processed food as more than an occasional thing and it really bothers me that people feed kids such high carb rubbish. I'm not a member of the dietary police though.

My mother is a great cook and I'm an ex chef. I think we've influenced the younger members of the family ie my cousins and nieces to try to eat healthily. My FIL was a chef, MIL a professional cook and all OH's family good cooks and two of his nephews now have a catering business. So I think we can make a difference by eating healthily, cooking great food and sharing our passion for food.

I suppose it depends on what the object is.

I haven't made any concious decision to avoid eating processed foods per se, just foods high in carbs.

My objective is to lose weight/fat... and I am. :)

    Hi hun

I tend to avoid pre-packaged foods as they often have wheat in there somewhere. Some processed foods I do have are ham, bacon etc, mushy peas and baked beans (occasional treats) Gluten free sausies - trace of carb.

Generally though I'd rather cook it all myself from scratch or eat it raw.

Each to their own though, I'm often avoiding for a reason that's true, but I do like to know what's in my food. Making your own gives you the freedom to make food your medicine :)
