Low-carb diets support thread

hmmm... I've taken the decision to move up to a 'reduced carb' diet for the next week seeing as I have the world and his wife descending on me. The combination of autistic/add kids and adults, a low fat fanatic, a vegetarian, a committed carnivore, me on low carb and a 'won't eat soup'er will test my patience to it's limits so I figure it's best to compromise in advance. There'll be at least 8 of us for every meal, with as many as 15 for some so it's got to be simple. (I also plan on having alcohol and there's a nice box of Hotel Chocolat fortified chocs just waiting to be scoffed but sharing it will mean I don't get to eat quite so many
)
So, menu planning (having thought it was all sorted, only to be informed about the veggie yesterday ) is
Sunday: Roast Lamb / Nut Roast (already in the fridge/freezer)
Monday: Haryali chicken (making enough to have cold with subsequent lunches), Butter Chicken, Veg Dhansak and a mushroom/spinach bhaji with coconut cauliflower 'mock' rice.
Tuesday: Cauliflower Cheese / Macaroni Cheese
Wednesday onwards: erm... ideas?Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Daska, sounds like it will be fun at yours this week!
I have done some baking! Worked out really well. Ground almonds, some strawberry protein powder, bit of Splenda, butter, eggs and baking powder. Whipped it all together, no special technique although it was dry till I put more eggs then a splash of cream in. Counted 14 carbs in all.
Baked in a silicone loaf tin at about 160 for 35 min. Really puffed up. Managed to slice thinly enough for one carb per portion. Have then toasted and buttered. Deeelish. This is going to be great for breakfasts on office days! If I had some neutral protein powder I'd make a savoury one too...
So today I've had a continental brekki of cheese and salami, cup of tea, lunch was smoked sausage and salad, snacked on a 3 carb daybreak bar, and dinner was diet coke chicken with mushrooms and peppers. Followed by two slices of toasted, buttered cake! Figure I've had about 22 carbs today so could squeeze in another tea later xBossymoo

I use lactofree whole milk, the carbs are the same and as it's creamier you use less.
Had a nice day out, having strawbs and Lidl yogurt with chopped walnuts and a cuppa now0 -

Meant to add earlier that I get 85% chocolate from Tesco (it's called Ivory Coast & Ecuador Plain Chocolate, on the shelf with the Green & Blacks, Lindt etc.) and it's only 95p for 100g so actually affordable! Still has 21g carbs per 100 but I only have a square at a time. :-)[/QUOTE]
thats the one i buy
sheila ive been very down thinking about the hard work involved in shedding any weight but ive also done alot of reading , books and blogs and it seems that our way of eating is the most natural and healthy way, so i will persevere and hope that i drop weight along the way .
i need to lose about 5 stone but would be happy with 3
there are some fantastic weight losses on here :T:T
mazzers / sunny sounds like you have both got your lc mojo back :j:j0 -
Good for you sistercas :T It really helps when we understand each other and the ups and downs of low carbing.
Looking back through this thread it seems that Mercy, sunnyday, mazzers and you have been low carbing for quite a while so how have you all you found keeping to it long term?
I agree that it has to be the right way but it does get disheartening when you don't lose weight and have really tried.:( I was told by the hospital doc to go away and try harder to lose more but he doesn't know how hard it is
Trying to keep to 25 - 30 carbs but slipped up and ate 6 squares of the chocolate that I bought earlier so an extra 8 carbs. Very annoyed with myself now.0 -

After drinking skimmed milk most of my life whole milk tastes like dollops of Hellmann's in water..on the other hand get me anywhere near Rodda clotted cream and I'll scoff the tub
Fruit teas.. they don't seem to be labelled with sugar/carb content but the Morrisons ginger and apple one made my sugar spike..so a heads up if you're drinking them and stalling..0 -
think i would struggle on 25 carbs a day , i may have to reduce down a bit further . you sound so focused to me and i know you will definitely get there. :T
yes some of us have been on here a long time, when i first lcarbed i lost 3 stone in 6 months and felt so much better , i lost weight easily , then i went off it i dont even know why , started eating the biggest load of carp . subsequently i gained all of the 3 stones back
so now im in it for the long haul again, and hopefully i will soon find my mojo again
edwardia i am surprised about the fruit teas , thats naughty if they have hidden sugar in0 -
Thanks for your encouragement. My biggest worry is putting back the weight that I have lost but I really do want to lose more, don't we all
I am going back up by 5 carbs a week, like Atkins induction, but think that the 50 carbs that I had been managing on was too much, unfortunately. I enjoyed a small glass of Lactofree milk last night, it was a real treat!! Edwardia - I share your love of clotted cream and could polish off a whole tub but would feel sick after.
How is everyone managing over Easter? There is so much chocolate here that I decided to bake. Made some bread from almond and coconut flour but the consistency is so sweet and cake like and I am still looking for something to have Marmite and butter with. Has anyone solved this dilemma?
Have a good weekend if you are reading this and try not to :EasterBun.0 -

Hi hun!
I love that bunny
Have you tried more flax based bread type things for your marmite? I like sazbo's flax bread - but the bigger version she mentions. Also flax cracker type thing can be very nice. (both on recipe list pg1)
Using some or all flax gives a more savoury and a slightly heavier texture. I've never tried the bread toasted, I imagine it could be nice. I like the flax craker tt with melted cheese - Yum! :j

PS in Switzerland they often have massive, 30ft+, versions of the Lindt bunny over petrol stations etc. Always want a real one just like emlow carb recipe list - link on page 1 low carb support threadYou don't have any control over what life throws at you.You DO have control over how you react0 -

It's a bit annoying but I've been living with it a long time. At least now I realise it's better for me to just take a bit of time and cook some veggies instead of eating a salad - and I've always preferred cooked veggies to salad, I just didn't realise why! :-)
The reading also pointed out to me that lamb's lettuce/corn salad isn't usually an irritant and having tried it, it's fine. Plus I really like it, plus you can eat it raw or lightly cooked, like spinach, only it's nicer than spinach. I'm growing some in the garden now to cut down on the cost!
Hi sweetie
How are you with fermented veg? Saurkraut etc? If you found that ok it may be an option to ferment your own. I keep thinking i should try it, there are lots of recipes on line. Fermenting increases lots of good stuff, maybe it'd alter thing for you're allergies? OK things are kinda raw but processed.
Just a thought
