Bossymoo, what a terrible shock for you, It's early days and you must still feel very raw, i feel so sad for you, must be hard on his parents too. Sorry, i'm still not used to all the new posters, do you have children?
It is very sad, and his parents are wonderful but obviously distraught. We have two little ones, my boy is 3 and my girl in 19 months today. We are just getting over the chicken pox!
Thank you for your kindness :ABossymoo

bossymoo - it must be hard with 2 children so young and yet they must keep you busy and bring great joy
You seem to be cheerful despite all that has happened and I take my hat off to you!!
Question for those in the knowMy daughter is giving me grief as she says that I eat a lot of fat and it must be bad for my heart and I am trading weight loss for ill health. I try to keep to 70% fat, 25% protein and 5% carbs but is she right I wonder? Some of the fat is the coconut oil but what sort of % do you think is right?

Any low carb bakers on here ?
mercy my mother tries the just one cake won't hurt thing on me, it's taken a lot of explaining but in the end people aren't doing you a kindness. Some people don't take allergies and intolerances seriously, some people think if your leg isn't hanging off there's nothing wrong !
hi hun
Try the recipe list on page one for lots of alternatives to regular cooking carb foods.
Nobody in my family tries the 'just one won't hurt' thing, luckily they do all understand. My lovely sister is a fantastic baker, cakes a speciality. She has thoughtfully made cakes using gluten free flour and both sis and mum have used the gf flour to make other things for me. When sis makes 'regular' cakes it is up to me whether I eat them or not. As they are are available infrequently I often try a small piece. Luckily I've lost my sweet tooth mostly so a bit is enough. I never buy cakes (bread, pasta, pastry, rice, steak puddings etc) for me so it's easy not to get into bad habits.
Looking forward to Easter. Big family gathering and thankfully i get dark choc bars rather than eggs. They understand me! :j :rotfl:

(((bossymoo)))
Mercy I will have a look thank you.
Sheila54..as an annoying daughter myself.. she's trying to look out for you and much of the mainstream stuff you see does repeat ad nauseum that low fat is the only way.. the (UK) website I used to use as a great resource seems to have disappeared. Somewhat annoying as I hadn't bothered to bookmark all the research individuallyI will get on it after Easter. In the meantime you could plonk her in front of Gary Taubes lectures at medical schools on YouTube and get her to Google Dr Richard Bernstein, Dr Charles Clark and Dr John Briffa (latter two are Brits). Hopefully other posters here will be able to give better advice.

Nice to see you again SD although i suspect like me, you never really left
I have been watching a lot of 'Obese a year to save my life' (my son asked was i trying to 'watch myself thin'... cheeky sod!! ) these people do amazingly well, very inspirational, but they do need pushing, i wish i could afford a personal trainer0 -
Hi peeps
I too advocate Dr Briffa. He's v good at explaining things without patronising and always references anything he quotes so you can check it out yourself.

I also read Dr Mercola but it's a bit American. Still has lots of good info, you just have to get past the hyperbole :rotfl:

I know that she cares but she can lose weight easily just by cutting down whereas I have been struggling all of my lifeHad blood tests yesterday and so will wait to see if my GP will be back on my case as well.
bossymoo - I also had 2 squares of Lindt chocolate yesterday, 70% , but I really can't get used to anything darker.
Mercy - enjoy your dark chocolate over Easter. It is nice that your family understand.
