Hmm. Dukan Vs Atkins? I have been doing Dukan for many months, and lost 37lb. Put on a bit over xmas which I lost again, but then got bored.
Dukan: Less food items to choose from, no counting, except your daily oat bran allowance. Alternate between protein only days and protein plus veg, tricky if eating out on a protein only day. Simple though, and as I say I'm practiced at it but lost momentum. Later phases plan to consolidate and stabilise weight, so is a lifetime plan.
Atkins: Bit trickier and am not used to counting carbs, but only 3 days in, and it has got my weight moving again. Nice in that all days are the same, and veg allowed every day, making it easier to plan, and not waste leftovers. Allowed higher fat meat and cheese products, which is what I was missing.
I think they both have their place, and maybe I benefit from a diet shake up from time to time, to keep things fresh.
What other lc plans are people following? I've got the carbohydrate addicts book but not really given that a go yet...Bossymoo

daska - always interested to read what you are eating as, when the diet is complicated by health issues, it makes it more difficult somehow.
LOL, it's complicated, yes! But I've got a doozy of a week coming up at Easter. I have guests! I don't think DS1 and his friend will be too much of a problem compared to my dad... who is, well, not quite anything in particular. After being vegetarian for decades he now eats fish twice a week, but no longer eats dairy, and he's not low carb - eeek! I'm not quite sure what that makes him other than awkward.
As I really don't want to be cooking multiple meals, if anyone has any ideas for low carb, vegetarian dishes that don't include dairy, soya, nightshade (tomatos, aubergine, peppers, chilli etc), ersatz foods (protein powder, sweeteners etc) or eggs 3 times a day, I'd be eternally grateful.
I do have xanthan gum, chia seeds, flax, yacon syrup etc and will happily source other things if recipes appeal.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Hi All,
Sheila, I'm still around - not having a very successful time at the mo though! Have eaten lots of hot x buns this week .....
I'm glad this thread is still going strong - I do read it, just lack the time and motivation to post as often as I should, when I know I need your support!!
Someone please give me a kick up the rear, then I know I'll have to jump back in.0 -
Minihauk - Kick duly administered
You can do it and you will feel better so find something that you like instead of hot cross buns - maybe make some mixed spice oopsie rolls.
We all need each other, both for motivation, encouragement and advice, so please carry on posting x

you could omit the cheese and pepper and have it without the tomato sauce, as I did. I made this for a veggie friend and it was yummy!0 -

Mmmmmm.... loving the sound of the squash risotto. That's on the menu for Saturday
I've spoken with the out-laws and we're going to do a joint family meal on sunday so, in essence, a pic'n'mix of roast, nut loaf/stuffing, veggies etc. Did you sub the breadcrumbs? What with?
Lunches are easy: salad with leftovers/ whatever protein people fancy and I'll bake some bread for those who want it.
Then I think I'll do a frittata for one meal. And steamed salmon tikka with green beans and cauliflower rice will do another.
Just one more meal to find some inspiration forEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Hey all, having a very sluggish day today. I am surrounded by cakes
we are having a bake sale for charity. They look so good but i am resisting.
What i always found was hard on this plan was lack of sweets. I have tried making different low carb desserts like baked egg custard (this turned out to be like sweet scrambled egg) also flax cookies (still trying to get used to the taste of flax), also a cocoa cream ice cream subsitute (but ive always been a milk choc girl and the bitterness of this was horrible). Don't really like splenda that much either. Is honey high in carbs anyone?
One good thing is that planning a weekend away with the girls at the end of June. Need to lose as much weight as i can for then. I really want to be able to sit in a airplane seat without asking for a seat extender and be able to at least attempt to put the chair tray down this time lol x0 -
daska - I substituted mixed nuts for the breadcrumbs
I really love stuffed mushrooms at the moment and use chopped courgettes, stalks, onion and garlic fried in a little oil for filling, sprinkle over chopped nuts for crunch and then cover in St Agur Delice ( which I could eat a whole tub of without stopping) and bake in oven.
focus888 - could you make a chocolate mousse with 70% chocolate and then mix it with cream? Depends if you are still on induction as chocolate is not allowed and it would be 5 carbs per portion. Gives a great chocolate hit and the cream makes it not so bitter. Cakes etc. tend to get easier when you can have nuts to substitute for flour.
Honey is about 5 carbs per tsp. Know what you mean about seat extender and table, embarrassing isn't it but you will get there and it feels great when you can do up the belt without problems!!
schoolhouse - are you feeling any better today?
mazzers - you have a pm. Sorry that it took so long to reply but I don't tend to get them often.0 -

I often crack an egg into a portobello mushroom and bake it (well seasoned and topped with parmesan) sometimes I add a spoon of pesto under the egg, or if I've made kufta I crumble a bit of that in. Scrummy!
I think I just worked out that last meal LOLEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Hi mazzers
Please keep in touch as it is good to know how you are doing and we all have our ups and downs. You have been low carbing for a long time now and your experience is invaluable.
Hope that today is a better day:)
daska - mushroom sounds good
Very tired today as not sleeping much but will try to stick to 20 carbs. May give exercise a miss though:D Hadn't tried low calorie jelly before but it tastes ok with cream and even my granddaughter likes it.
Weigh day today and I know that I put on weight last week but hope that a bit of it has come off already as I have gone back to induction since Monday.
Have a good day everyone:wave:0
