Hi
I don't know if caffeine free diet coke would be any better as caffeine does seem to cause problems. I am having 2 half cups of decaffeinated coffee and one of tea a day, otherwise it is water. I have also read that if you don't drink enough water then the loss will slow down, or eat enough as the body goes into starvation mode.
Low carbing is quite hard but, when I increased just a little for a week I put on 6lb  Worries me that it is so easy to put on weight but it is the only diet that has worked for me as I have been overweight most of my life. Started last June and lost steadily until Christmas when I stalled. I still would like a slice of toast with marmite or a big belgian bun
My favourites at the moment are onions, courgettes, pepper and garlic fried in coconut oil or stuffed mushrooms. Can't wait to when I can have my nuts and chocolate back!!!0 -
Hiya
Shelia - I am stalling at the moment. Since valentines day i have been having choccy (rolos on offer in lidl - not my fault!) but even when i am good i am not losing weight, although thankfully not putting it on either! thanks for asking
Gloomendoom - i used to think that as well. just do low carb until i lose the weight then i can eat all the bread! :rotfl: It doesnt work like that for me. apart from putting it all back on my asthma gets bad. I am still trying to find a way to make this the only way i eat. and today that meant i did have the skin on the kfc! but i didnt order pizza!
I have been the same weight for weeks now. I thought it was stress cos of hubbys job (he kept it :j) but now dd is having grommits next week so bit stressed about that. also i am not drinking enough water. my fingers are swollen in the morning but by evening back to normal which seems a bit odd. i am also tired all the time. Hubby thinks its cos i am up at 6.30 for dog jog/walk and some nights i also do zumba. But by doing low carb i should be full of energy and not want to go to sleep by 2pm. plus a few weeks ago i was in bed around midnight and up at 7am and fine. now i go to bed around 10-11pm and up at 6.30am and get a better nights sleep. before i was awake every hour on the hour but now i sleep pretty much straight through. i do wonder if this is all connected. rather annoying that no matter how good i am i dont lose but great that the odd (3) packet (s) of rolos doesnt make me gain either.
might start posting my menu on here again so you can all rip it apart and find whats stalling me!!!0 -
I don't intend to go mad but the odd piece of toast and the occasional chip or two would be nice.
BTW I'm glad your husband kept his job. I've been there myself (more than once) and I know how stressful it can be for all concerned.0 -

thanks. we are used to it as its a yearly thing with his company but this year was worse! the whole thing was done differently and now they are trying to change contracts and stuff. All worrying stuff but hay ho, something for next year to worry about!
if you look at atkins website I think they say you can have stuff like bread and chips occasionally. but its knowing when to stop, and that what i have the problem with! :rotfl:0 -
On the stalling subject, I've had a bit of a eureka moment. I started LC'ing in November and although I didn't need to loose a load of weight - 7-10 lbs - I knew that wheat was doing me no good at all, but I love bread.
I lost 6 lbs in the first couple of weeks, then a 1lb or 2, and have pretty much stayed the same ever since. I'm not strict, probably 50-60g carbs daily, I find anything less is not sustainable as - after much research - this is definitely a lifestyle choice.
Last weekend we stayed at a very nice hotel/spa with a michelin chef and as it was pretty expensive I was going to make the most of it. Bread, sugar, potatoes, I had the lot! I was not well the next morning and had really bad stomach cramps, I was going to drive back but couldn't.
Anyway, a couple of days later I get on the scales and my really annoying teetering at 70.2 - 70.5kg - I really thought the scales had stuck, even thought they're digital!! - had changed to 69.8 and since then it's been going down .1kg every day since. I hadn't deviated since November, so maybe this was the trigger I needed to kick-start things again.
Getting back into the 60's has been my goal, and it has been long enough coming, but I feel, and look, much better eating this way.
I must admit I am a Nutrition and Weight Management Consultant and this goes against all my training, but the wealth of non-government evidence comprehensively shows this is the healthiest way of eating. I have clients that have done well with 'healthy-eating' and LC'ing, but generally the over-riding indicator of both is fresh produce and no/low sugar. Anything pre-made, synthetic, artificial - apart from the likes of tea, yogurt etc, things that are pre-packaged but only have one ingredient - is banned, and this, in my opinion, is the key to success in any form of eating.
Anyway, if you are stalling, take a look at anything you eat or drink that is pre-packaged, not fresh, or containing made-made chemicals (sweeteners, preservatives, acids etc) and eliminate them for a while to see if you have a reaction.0 -
Well I have lost 3 of the 4 overnight. Hmm, that explains it then...
Onwards and downwards...Bossymoo

Thanks for telling your experiences as it sheds light on several issues
I stalled for ages after Christmas having 50 carbs a day, which I could lose on before. Increased to around 80 carbs for a week and put on 6lb but have gone down to 20 carbs since last Monday. In the first 2 days I lost the 6lb gained and had lost another 1lb on Friday. Ketones +++ in urine, which were absent for a while. Seems that shocking the system may work and I will weigh on Tuesday.
I do feel better low carbing and had boundless energy last year but am tired and sluggish at the moment so wonder if it is the diet or the low thyroid?
Whatever happens I know that I have to stay low carb forever but intend to have the odd treat when I get down to goal as it is too difficult to stick to it all the time. The problem is keeping it to the odd treat!!!
nuttybabe - good for you at keeping up the diet when you are stressed.
bossymoo - I usually weigh weekly as lots of water, unexpelled, constipation or hormones can make a huge difference and it is disheartening.
murphydog999 - I thought that you were very knowledgeable!!! My GP was horrified when I told her that I was doing this diet and told me to do the Cambridge diet instead, or have a gastric band fitted. She did blood tests on my liver and kidneys and they weren't good but, now, they are normal and she is pleased that I have lost so much weight. The medical profession seems very adamant about low carbing being bad but it works!!
Doing birthday tea for my granddaughter today - 15 adults and 6 children, lots of temptation there but I have cheese, salad, smoked mackeral and crudites built in to the meal so should be able to stick to it. Low calorie jelly and cream for dessert. Fancy the ploughmans, grapes, sausage rolls, cake and scones with cream and jam though0 -
hello
Im still here and lcarbing ( if you call eating a whole box of creme eggs lcarbing) i just cannot stop at the moment .
murphy I have been reading 'trick and treat ' by Barry Groves a pro lcarber- his arguments for lcbing are very persuasive - its a very good read , its a shame the government and health depts cant latch onto proper healthy eating ( i dont think they ever will as the huge food giants like c0cac0la and kellogs pour so much money in, the government will never turn them away ) people need to research for themselves and make their own minds up about what constitutes good health .
I do think some health professionals are realising lcarbing is healthier but they are few and far between .
I understand its hard for people to grasp as it goes against everything we have been [STRIKE]indoctrinated[/STRIKE] led to believe. *climbs off soapbox*
off to boost my vitamin D0 -
I posted on the weight loss thread and got shot down in flames. It doesn't seem to matter how many doctors and research studies I quote at people, they will happily quote stuff from Slimming World back.
Diabetes UK is a joke - handing out Krispy Kreme doughnuts to people in the street as an incentive to donate... !!!!!! ? And their corporate sponsors include Nabisco, for example. Who next .. Tate & Lyle ?
The NHS etc won't deviate from the low fat mantra because if they do so, they leave themselves open to a class action by people with ruined health, who followed their advice.
I made the decision to low carb but once I did, my GP was supportive. NHS rules prevent him advocating anything against NHS policy but once I explained my position he has been supportive and enthusiastic. I am now starting to find that if I state that I low carb, other health professionals will tell me that's a good idea on an off the record personal opinion basis.
The NHS and Department of Health shouldn't stick head in sand it really annoys me !
What annoys me more is people who don't go research low carbing themselves getting really vitriolic about it and spouting absolute rubbish.0 -

I have to say that I don't think I can keep on the LC diet forever. I really miss toast and marmalade
Hi everybody..
Me too, it's my ideal breakfast with a cup of strong coffee.
Murpysdog, in the past a few of us on here have found that a good blow out on carby food tricks the body into losing again when back on lc-ing.
I'm not doing anything atm, just eating normally but now my hormones have settled for the month i'm not craving chocolate and eating eveything in sight, so thats a plus.
Incidentally, i've never found that lc gives me energy, i always feel sluggish on it tbh, but it has so many other benefits i overlook it.
IF, made me energetic though, got a week off now so will try to get back to it.0
