I'm 1 pound down, on my first day! Yaay!
I've downloaded the Atkins iPad carb counter, very helpful although not an awful lot of uk products, but I have been able to find similar, egg put fried egg instead of scrambled, as their scrambled says with milk.
I was also going to ask about lacto free. I like to drink tea, and although I don't mind cream, I need something I can get in little portable pots. And I can buy lacto free milk in a net of a dozen or so. These would be ideal for work where I can get black tea or coffee.
Happy mothers day to all. We are having an indoor picnic, have made mini frittatas, got some lovely peppered ham, cheese, and some salad. Love coleslaw so might have to have a go at making my own.
We've also made some rocky road bars this morning  so will have to resist temptation. They are for the grannies really, and the kids, I am having jelly for pud
Anyway, onwards and downwards

Happy Mother's Day everyone.
Sorry i can't help with the reason for the gain, i am still new to this way of eating so dont have confidence to give advice.
Today is my 14th daySo happy i have managed to stick to the plan without anything too carby. (nuts are my weaknesses) anyway still losing even though its alot slower than the first week. Just wanted to ask is eating too much chicken a bad thing? i think i read somewhere, either on this thread or another that too much chicken is bad for you as it doesnt contain enough fat to help with the weightloss. This week alone i have had chicken about 4/5 times. Its so convenient but i will have to avoid it if its not really the best thing to eat. Do most people tend to eat more red meat on this plan?
Last night made a yummy creamy mushroom sauce with chicken breast, i just used double cream and salt and pepper for flavouring. The mushroom gave the sauce a very nice taste to it. Had that with ribbon courgettes. Hmmm tasted so good. Dont know if you have had it but i love Belgo's chicken in mushroom sauce and this was my take on the dish. Sooo good i felt guilty even though i knew it was acceptable on this plan.
Will post my weight loss result tomorrow after the official 2 weeks are up. Any advice re some leftover double cream? any easy dessert i can make with this with limited ingredients available? x0 -
Hi
raverminx - Weight loss can change depending on the time of the month, constipation, water retention and it really is better to weigh once a week at the same time, whatever the temptation, as it can even fluctuate even between morning and evening.
The first 7lb lost is water so the loss is always higher in the first week or two. It will also depend on how much you have to lose. I lost 1 stone in the first 2 weeks but weighed 20 stone:eek:
focus888 - I eat a lot of chicken and haven't had problems but sometimes nuts & coffee can delay weight loss I have heard. Let us know how you get on with the weight loss?
Sugar free jelly is allowed on Atkins induction - half a cup = 1 carb.
Have now changed my mind, again, and decided to cut back to 20 carbs for this week to see if it will break the plateau. At least the weather is picking up and I can live with salads more easily. I was losing until I added in extras and started experimenting with recipes for almond pancakes etc so it is worth a try. Want to lose another 2 - 3 stone if I can.
Hope everyone is ok - mazzers, hannoja, schoolhouse, sunnyday, Mercy, sistercas, aliasojo, Minihauk - how have you all been this week. Are the problems getting any easier? x0 -
I low carb for my health rather than as a diet and as I'm eating low carb for the rest of my life I look at low carbing slightly differently.
Personally though, I'd say that starting a diet is a good time to reinforce some positive health messages in your mind, such as eating more leafy veg, drinking more water, taking more exercise and cutting down on booze.
For most people, artificial sweeteners have no effect on their blood glucose level so sugar free soda/cola will be fine. Nuts contain carbs but whereas chestnuts have over 60g/cup, pine nuts, dry roasted peanuts and cashews are much much lower (I think all three are under 10g).
At the beginning of the diet/lifestyle change your body will be all over the place, adjusting but be patient, don't panic and it will settle down. We are all different and our bodies react differently to variables however.0 -
As I understand it there is evidence that while no-cal sweeteners have no effect on the blood glucose they can make weight loss/maintenance more difficult.

http://www.womentowomen.com/healthyweight/splenda.aspx I particularly like the first comment: "The first time I bought Splenda I left an open package on the counter. I came home from work and there was a bunch of dead ants by the package. Think that says it all."Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

What must it be doing to our insides. A bit like how the dirty old penny comes out of the cola all new and shiny, but the other way round :eek:Bossymoo

daska thats interesting , thanks for the links , i dont use much in the way of sweetener , but i do drink diet coke occasionally and presumably the atkins bars have it in too
been absolutely hideous with my lcing , ive eaten sweets ( sherbet dibdabs) ive got a taste for sugar again and its got a real hold over me right now
fasted this morning and had a lc lunch , came in from work and raided the kids sweet box , i couldnt stop myself
i really need to get a grip
hope everyone is doing ok xx0 -
Hi sistercas
If sweets are a problem could you get the sugar free ones? I have seen them in Lidl / Aldi. I know that they can stall some people but at least you won't put on weight:D
I wish that there was a time when everything that you try to do didn't turn out to be wrong. I use Splenda occasionally and now that is bad for you. Cruciferous veg and soy bad for thyroid etc.
First day for Atkins induction today to try and break the stall. I put on 6lb last week by just upping the carbs a bit so it had better work!
I found this Australian website that has some nice recipes on it
http://www.apinchofhealth.com/forum/vbb/showthread.php?t=4685
Some nice desserts as well;)
I wonder where everyone who was posting has gone? Maybe we are all having a tough time but Spring is coming!!
breakfast - 2 eggs with 2 slices gammon from yesterday's lunch
snack - lettuce and slice gouda cheese
lunch - gammon, 1oz soft cheese, lettuce, cucumber, half avacado
dinner - out with friends. I will either have fish and veg or burger with cheese and salad
Hope that everyone is well :wave:0 -

I'm still here and getting there with the low carb. Got the boys' lurgy though so not feeling too perky. Have been mostly eating all the right stuff, no exercise though.:o
Also been filling out an application form:eek: Hate those blasted things, esp questions like 'state your strengths' and 'give examples of how you work well in a team'..Arrrrghhhh! Stress equals food to me so some chocolate was consumed:D. The lovely dark stuff so not too much damage?:p
Thanks for the link SHEILA,will have a mooch later. Have a crustless quiche in the oven for my dinner, maybe some yoghurt for pud. Good wishes to all.0
