Hi everyone
bossymoo - welcome and well done on your loss so far. When I am bored with eggs I sometimes have half and avacado with soft cheese or a handful of mixed nuts with a square of 70% chocolate. I also keep some almond meal pancake batter made up in the fridge and have with berries and cream or lemon and sweetener. Several muffin recipes on 1st page.
marbett -There are recipes for brownies, muffins etc that will keep her full and are high calorie. Polenta and oats are really out for us but, if she is just cutting back then a small bowl of oats is ok. Most of us stick to between 20 and 50 carbs a day but the normal is around 250g for most people so maybe she could have between 80 and 100 if she isn't trying to lose weight.
http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/lowcarbsidedishes/r/almondpolenta.htm Look around this website as it has a lot of info and recipes on low carb eating.
I am off out now but will put in some links later when I get back.
Have a good day:)0 -
Ugh, have just discovered that dates have the highest carb value of fruit!! How can they market a health bar as carb free, when the dates make it not so!!0

Hi and thanks for the welcome. DD is low fat too, so really restricts options. Am considering ditching the oatbran in favour of more fat content, I guess going more Atkins style.
What would your basic Atkins shopping list look like? It's years since I did Atkins. Not sure if I can remember how to count the carbs and which ones to include.
Might go googling just now, need to shop later..Bossymoo

Welcome to the delightful world of deciphering labels and distinguishing between 'sugar', 'carbs' and things that don't have to be counted. Don't take the labels for granted. If you don't know what an ingredient is then check it.
Take it back to basics. Without going into the various carb counts my rule of thumb is:
Meat, fish, eggs - pretty much carb free
Cheese, sea food - some carbs
Organ meats (offal) - some carbs
Processed meat - depends
Leaf veg - low carb
Other veg - not low carb in comparison
Potatoes - don't even think about it
Berries - lower carb
Other fruit - higher carb
Grains (whole or milled) - don't even think about it
Cream/Butter - OK
Milk - not OK
Coconut -
Organic Virgin Coconut oil seems to be a wonder product
Coconut Flour is low carb (not carb free, but also not a grain)
Coconut Milk is low carb
Sweeteners - stevia (check the rest of the contents), splenda, otherwise avoid. (Agave syrup is NOT good). AFter a couple of weeks of not using any sweeteners I find the natural taste of foods becomes accentuated to the point that sugar/sweetener laden things are verging on unpleasant.
People frequently feel LESS hungry than when they are eating carbs.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

It is difficult until you get used to knowing what to look for. I don't use them but Atkins do a whole range of products that are low carb and they can be ordered from Boots or other stores . Just looked and Boots have 25% off at the moment and there are other codes that can be used in the discount board
http://www.boots.com/en/Atkins/Atkins-Products/Buy-All-Atkins-Products/ However there are additives, soy, gluten etc in some of these items which is why I haven't tried them.
There has been research that has shown that low carb diets reduce inflammation so I hope that this helps your daughter to feel better
daska and murphydog999 have given you the general idea but please ask if there is a specific type of food that she likes.
bossymoo - hope this helps

Really Low Carb PIZZA! Yay! Seriously guys you have to try this one if you haven't already! I made it for tea for DS2 and myself and it was absolutely delicious.
Easy Crispy Pizza Crust
It's made with chicken and mozzarella and goes seriously crispy round the edges, I suspect that you could pass it off on people who didn't know without them suspecting a thing.
Don't use greaseproof paper, it's not non-stick enough - which is how I know that the crust is absolutely delish unadorned - thankfully I'd only used half the mix and switched to a silicon sheet for the remainder. I think it would also make excellent crackers to have with a spot of pate or cream cheese
I did measure it out using cups but I weighed it as I went. 200g mozzarella was just short of a cup and the same volume chicken weighed 80g (was about half a large breast). I halved the salt but used the recommended amount of parsley and basil (I didn't have any onion or garlic powder).
I spread it with a skinny topping of Pesto rather than sauce, topped my side with defrosted spinach and some gorgonzola and used brie and tomato for DS2.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

If there was a double thanks button I would push it for all you lovely ladies, especially for the pizza one as we always have home-made pizza on saturdays and I was feeling quite challenged!!
I am really struggling to convince myself that its healthy to eat so much animal fat and meat, but am trying to change my mindset.
I'm gonna try hard to draw up a menu over the weekend, so I might be coming back soon for help!!
THANKYOU again.xx0 -
Hi
I have started today, Atkins and not Dukan, see if I can get things moving again.
So I've had leftover coronation chicken (hm, just chicken, mayo and curry powder) for breakfast, a plain omelette with salad for lunch, a cup of bovril mid afternoon as I am feeling listless, and probably tuna salad later.
I've had a dash of cream in one cup of tea, and will probably have another later, and I've made up some sugar free jelly. I made up to 500ml with water and then another 100 of cream, is this ok? Can't stand jelly, but this makes it palatable. I'll probably have 1/3 of this tonight so it's not loads of cream.
Also refilling my water bottle as I go, so fluids should be ok.
I'd appreciate any tips or comments on my menu for today. Once out of induction I'll look into some breakfast muffins to take to work, I think.
Thanks!Bossymoo
