There are two diets (and I use diet in the lifestyle sense rather than as a means of weightloss) that make sense to me. First is based on the notion that the human race has evolved over thousands of years eating meat, veg, nuts, fruits etc in season (not the huge oversweet varieties we get now and a lot of wild plants can't be eaten to excess so probably not huge quantities of veg). That's the paleo or caveman diet. Secondly the wartime diet, eating mainly veg, growing what you could in the garden and allotments, keeping chickens for eggs if you could, foraging for berries and mushrooms with meat, dairy, bread and sugar heavily rationed - often touted as the healthiest we've been in the last century. Hmmm... they're not much different are they! But how much do either of them sound like the current recommended 'healthy diet' with it's emphasis on grains, margarine and shedloads of fruit?

Everything in moderation is probably the best advice.

I agree.. unfortunately we mostly tend to over-indulge these days.

I think that we all want to eat healthily and feel well but sometimes it is easier than others and, when things go wrong, we fall back into our old ways and either can't be bothered or comfort eat :D

Now that I am older I want give myself the best chance to do the things that I could when I was younger and, doing this diet, makes sense and I do feel so much better on it. When you are losing it is easy but, when it gets harder it means that you need more willpower to see it through. To me the thing is to realise that the odd blip is normal but, to put it all back on and have to start over again is soul destroying:eek:

I had a nice meal tonight, 12 screaming 6 and 7 year olds withstanding, but I allowed myself a dessert and enjoyed every morsel. Missed out on the rice, noodles etc but decided that a treat is good, as long as it doesn't become several and a habit. I am trying different recipes to keep it interesting and give me something to snack on when I get the munchies.

daska - I will start tomorrow and take half a teaspoon of coconut oil twice a day and, if that works, then increase it gradually. I try to eat healthily and avoid processed food but admit to having the odd rasher of bacon occasionally.

hannojah - your encouragement with exercise is appreciated, as with the diet. Hope that your stomach ache is better.

We are all special and deserve to be loved but we owe it to ourselves to look after our bodies so that we feel better, both physcally and emotionally :)

Sorry didn't mean to go on but to encourage but this reads like a lecture. You have helped me and just wanted to repay the kindness:T

Sleep well, tomorrow is another day.

    Hi Peeps

catching up whilst i have a few mins to spare - seem to be even busier than usual atm and am working quite a bit of overtime whilst its available as DH has had to have some time off.

Brekkie is the usual each day, bacon, mushrooms and scramblies. I`ve been adding a couple of sausages in to the mix here and there for variety too :D

Dinner yesterday was chicken salad with chopped gherkins and feta - tomorrow will be chopped frikadellen with cheese cubes, may and sliced gherkins

Just eaten a late tea of spinach, swede chips and burgers followed by a 25g bar of dark choccy. I snacked earlier on pistachios YUM!

I cant`remember what most peeps have said :o Sorry - that comes from hurriedly catching up and sometimes only reading a couple of posts at a time when i have a few minutes.

DH woke yesterday morning with no feeling at all in his swollen hands so we had another visit to the docs and more tablets _pale_ That said he is quite a bit better today - thanks for asking Sheila :A

Best run as i need to clear the kitchen and sort out some food to take to w*rk tomorrow, 4am starts this week so i need to be organised as well as getting some sleep  Things keep playing on my mind and i was still up at one thirty this morning so i`m absolutely bushed now. Can`t wait for my day off!

    Keep well Peeps

Hi Guys Applogies for my absence but ive had quite a few 'ongoing' family problems. My signature has been updated and I lost 2 pounds last week after the sweeties stalling me. I feel so much happier (hormonal?) and I can feel the loss now not just be looking at the numbers on the scales. BMI now 23.8 @ 9 stone 7 the end is in sight. Trust me I can relate to ill children as my 2 youngests have bad allergies

Sorry would you mind repeating what sausages they are?

Still on track so far. Concentrating on the diet more than the exercising (which means not doing anything right now)

    Breakfast - nothing so far
    Lunch - Tuna salad
    Dinner - Chicken salad

Sorry to hear so many poorly children :( hope they feel better soon x

    Hi

How are we all doing?

focus888 - are you eating enough? I think that the sausages are from Lidl.

Well I said that I was going to try eating a bit more to shock the system and what a shock it is. Since Sunday I have not counted the carbs so closely but have been reasonably good and not gorged myself. Weighed today and have put on 4lb

It was suggested that, as I have not lost much in the past 10 weeks, I should try to put on 3 - 5lb and then cut back down again but I didn't think that it would happen in a matter of days!!!

Now I don't know whether I should cut back down straight away or, wait until the week is up and do it then? The forum suggested that it would take around 2 weeks, not 4 days. What would you do as I really must lose some more weight? Do you think that 4 days is enough of a shock to the system?

I hope that everyone has had a good day and that those who are poorly are a bit better.

if you've not been counting the carbs it could be a lot of water. I remember reading somewhere that at 16st it can be 10lb or more (no idea what your weight is, just that's the figure I remember). I have been known to do one day on one day off for a week if that makes sense.

    Hi daska

I started at 20 stone beginning of June, 16 stone in September and 14 stone 8lb at Christmas. Was 14 stone 4lb last week so only 4lb lost in 10 weeks. Now 14stone 8lb as of today. Seems that, if I go off of it at all the weight piles on but, having said that, I ate a bit more over Christmas but only gained 1lb. I know that the first 7lb lost on any diet is water but, who knows?

I have been eating healthily and haven't had rice, pasta, flour, bread, sugar etc but I did have a dessert last night and a tbsp potato. I have also had a small bowl of porridge and a cappuccino today for breakfast, 2 ryvita with cheese & salad for lunch and 2 sausages 93% pork with veg tonight.
