Aiming to loose 56 pounds this year. Total to date 44.5 pounds 12.5 to go. Slimming World Rocks!0 -
Thank you both, so much. I'm finding it hard to work out what we can all eat that helps her, we were told that dairy can sometimes add to inflammation, but we can't cut it all out.
We make our own bread, so we're going to increase the amount of wholemeal flour in it slowly, so that if she has a slice of it, at least it's mostly wholemeal. Apparently, it's best to eat grains after exercise if you must?!
Does anyone know if sourdough bread is less carbor-iffic than yeast bread?(I'm clutching at straws, I know!!)
She's loving the idea of cream with stuff(!)and although loves lasagne, we often have the aubergine version of it, so no problems there.
It's just a complete re-adjustment of thinking needed isn't it. I'll get there, just got to start researching all your recipes.
Thanks again0 -

Actually it's grain that's the problem, wholemeal or plain, it doesn't make any difference. Bread in it's normal form is best avoided.
When the aim is to avoid carbs (which is good for everyone, not just your daughter) calorie counting goes out the window. It's a completely different mind-set and takes a bit of getting used to, but the addition of fat in the diet with protein and veg will make sure she is full and satisfied, she won't overeat and calories won't matter.
When you are looking at packets now, rather than looking at the amount of fat, look at the amount of carbs for a better indicator of whether it's good for you or not.
Yogurts are a good example of this. Low-fat yogurts have sugar and sweeteners added - which strangely enough will make you fat! - and are full of carbs, whereas 'normal' yogurt doesn't, and is better for you.
With regards to dairy, there is conflicting evidence about this and it may be a personal thing. I have loads of cream, full fat milk and cheese and it doesn't effect me - inflammatory or weight-wise - but it may do with other people. The only way to find out is to abstain for a month and then re-introduce it (or get tested).
There are a couple of books on offer from amazon at the moment which may help, plus lots of others on the same subject. One explains the benefits of low-carb, high fat, the other is a recipe book.

Carbs after/before exercise? Another myth!0 -
Hi
I use coconut flour and ground almonds in place of normal flour, with just 1 tsp baking powder added. Makes nice cakes, pancakes and I am going to try to make a form of bread. Others also use flax as a substitute and there are recipes under Mercy's on the 1st page, as mentioned before.
If you give us an idea of what she likes to eat then we can point you in the right direction but any form of refined flour, sugar, pasta, cereals etc are high in carbs. Potatoes and many root veg also, although swede is ok.
It is also worth knowing that most fruit contains sugar and therefore carbs. Some are better than others e.g berries
focus888 - I was only asking as you missed breakfast and didn't seem to include much fat. If I don't eat enough I go into starvation and then stop losing but you have done it before so probably know what suits your own body.
mazzers - how are you doing with IF?0 -
Hello All,
Well, I'm still lc-ing, but have lost no weight at all. I *think* it is the tea with milk, so next week I'll try without. Although I am eating berries and greek yoghurt from L*dl, so it may be that too.
As stated just above, some things suit different people.
I am eating low carb foods, perhaps I'm still eating too much, I have no idea, although it may also be the anti-inflams I have to take. I do feel better eating this way as I don't get bloated at all.
Good luck Marrbett, there is a wealth of information on this thread.
I hope you are all well.0 -
Like you say, everyone is different. I take milk in my tea and coffee. I still drink beer too but the weight is coming off slowly but steadily. On the other hand, I ate two slices of fried bread a few weeks ago and I'm sure it stalled me for a fortnight.0

Really gotta knuckle down but not getting consistent break-times so is difficult, plus.. my hearts not in it atm0 -

Hi
I had a feeling that there were problems. Why not just go back to eating normally but low carb for a while as I wonder if this IF isn't making you down. I have gone back to 50 carbs today as trying to eat more was making me feel unwell, miserable and the extra weight I put on took a long while to come off!!! I will cut back further on Monday or try eating more or less on different days, not sure yet. Personally I'd rather eat low carb and it come off slowly than be miserable
You love cooking so please come up with a new recipe for us all, when you have time of course!!
Minihauk - join the club with the weight loss. Please let me know if you find anything that works!!
Seems that there are a lot of us who are down or have problems but I know that March is the worst month for this. That is why we have the mad March hare
Love and hugs to everyone x0 -
Hi

Well, the trouble is, what she likes to eat are carbs!!! She's the girl who finishes her meal wiping a piece of bread over her plate to get the last bit of sauce!!!
She's had a few hours of dancing today, and has coped, but I think she's going to get hungry if I don't give her something other than meat and vegetables/salad.
So, I'm going to pursue the nuts and dates biscuit that she tried today and said was tasty(please don't tell me that dates are bad cos of the sugar-the label said carb-free on it)(Are dates no good???)
Also what about oats and polenta/corn?Sorry to ask so many things, especially when some of you are having it tough right now.
Has anyone found that inflammation lessens by cutting carbs? Do any of you take omega 3?
I'll leave it for now as I'm trying to find out things to help her, but am a little worried that she might start to lose weight and she's slim already, so am gonna stock up on butter and full fat yogurt and cream. How fantastic does that sound!!!0 -
Hi LCers
I'm new to this thread. I've been following the Dukan Diet and lost 37lb with so obviously over the moon. I did start last year, then had a break, then picked up where I left off. Most of the loss was last year. I've still got as least as much to lose and want to get the momentum going again.
I'm wondering what do you folk do for breakfast? I need something portable for part of the week, as we have an early start so I tend to eat breakfast at work. So far I've had "breakfast omelette" sort of like a frittata with sausage and bacon. I generally cook the night before and chop into cubes to take in a little tub. But I'm so fee up of eggs. Any ideas would be great.
On my plan, other than what's in the veg, the only carbs we have are in the form of oatbran, which I do bake with to make muffins and a savoury loaf.
I'm happy to cook and ideally things would be freezable, I'm a busy mum of two very young children, so prefer to batch cook.
anyway, just wanted to introduce myself.Bossymoo
