Ok....tried this http://www.low-carb.org.uk/recipes/bread/gabis/ last night. Tried on turbo setting (1 hr & 20mins)-did not rise at all. Tried again-1/2ing ammt-on a 3 hr white cycle-okish-rubbery but again did not rise (checked yeast 1st by adding to water & sugar-it was fine). So...tried this http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/recipes/recipe-bread21.html (which the uk version is based on) -omitting the splenda (sweet bread-yuk!) & adding 1/2 tsp more salt.
Used delia on line to convert cups...
1 pkt dried yeast
1/2 tsp sugar ( i used 1 tsp brown sugar)
390ml luke warm (blood heat) water (this is MORE than recipe said-maybe I converted measurement wrongly??!)
3 tbspoons olive oil
1 1/2 tsp lo-salt
150 gm gluten powder (bought from flourbin)
38gm oat flour (again bought from flourbin-but you could grind your own)
113gm soya flour (holland & barrett)
38 gm ground flax meal (ground my own)
38 gm whole unprocessed what bran (coarse-holland & barett).
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
Add sugar & yeast to water-if fizzing/bubbly after 10 mins yeast is good. Put in bottom of breadmaker tray. add oil. Mix all dry ingredients together-pour into breadmaker dish. sprinkle yeast on top.
I selected -2 pound loaf, dark crust, white setting. (3 hrs ttl).
Lovely! Rose fairly well (not as well as a white loaf)-nice, wholemeal bread taste-in fact VERY much like the burgens linseed/soy loaf.
Next time-light setting-& wholemeal bread setting (4 1/4 hrs)-as feel would have risen more. Also will try addind a crushed vit c tablet (this is 'flour improver' that you see on commercial loaves)-helps the rise.
Need to invest in a cheap electric knife-will then freeze in ziploc bags. Apparently according to website recipe was from its 3.4net gms/slice-based on 16 slices.
Must try the coconut one I put in my earlier link-20 carbs per loaf!
Edit...............glad people are trying my swede chip idea-how good do they taste???! Also swede mash is lush-much nicer than cauli mash!
Need to get planning this LC thing. Also really really need a month or 2 off the booze....sure that'd help (!).0 -

Yes, thanks. The swede chips are lovely. I tried them last week for the first time, but it won't be the last! Swede microwaved instead of boiled is also lush, much nicer and so easy to mash with lots of butter.
Did ok yesterday, nothing overly carby. Today is ok so far, so hoping to stick to the straight and narrow now.
I have cut right down on drinking tea as I am sure that was stalling me, so now drinking lots of herb/fruit tea and water instead but can't give up the first one of the day.
Welcome Andrewsmum. Good luck.
Sheila - if you can't do the flaxseed, can you use almond flour? It makes a very "cakey" bread.
Sunny - well done on th weight loss. You go girl.
Mazzers - glad you got sorted on the w*rk front.0 -

Hi Andrewsmum:hello: glad that you are joining us
Sunnyday - have you perked up or is today a write off?
DEBTMONKEY1A - thanks for the swede chips idea, quite nice!
Just realised that I may have lost quite a bit of weight but only 26lb in the last 6 months. Really don't know what to try next as I must lose some more:( I could blame the low thyroid but have to get past this.0 -
Hi everyone!! old low carber here, alil bit about myself. I used to eat low carb for over 2 years in 2006 and lost just over 11st from my largest weight but then relapsed and gained alot of it back. Then been yo-yoing up and down since (a couple of times on this thread). Now i am still less than my largest but in Jan this year i was at the biggest weight since 2006.
I was eating healthy in Jan and lost 16lbs but just like that in Feb i regained 6lbs because of silly excuses. Anyway back to eating low carb because on this way of eating i actually dont feel that hungry feeling. Ive been doing it for two days now. Lost 4lbs so far :jnot bad for 2 days work.
My downfall on this way of eating is that i am really bad at cooking from scratch. (but am going to change that) Already done some research about what i am going to have in the next week, like cheese and bacon topped cougettes, courgette noodles and if i can find something like jalapenos then jalapeno/pepper cream poppers (been on linda's recipe site).
Anyway sorry for the long post, hoping to be a regular on this thread. Going to go back and read and get as many ideas and inspirations as i can x0 -

Perked up but still knackered lol
Afternoon peeps
WB focus
Minihauk - I have at least 3 cuppas a day before switching to the fruit/herb teas
Well i went out for petrol and ended up in the supermarket, then the filling station, then the shopping centre, then the other shopping centre lol. Got all the bits and bobs done that i needed to though so chuffed with that because i didn`t feel like doing any of it. Only thing left to do now is go to @ldi to use up my voucher but tomorrow is an option too.
Had brekkie and then instead of the planned sandwich i had a frikadellen chopped up with a huge amount of mayo and sliced gherkins - really enjoyed that, still planning on the burgers etc for tea when DH gets home but change of plan for tomorrow as i bought some stuff to make spag bol for a change, in fact looking at the time i should make my way to the kitchen
Not really hungry atm but my food window closes at 7ish so off i go.
Take care peeps

Hi everybody..
Had a good day, was starving after eating all day yesterday but managed to last til 1pm and finished at 6pm so back on track
Welcome back to focus
DM, mine didnt rise in the breadmaker but was better hand made.
Sis, i really want to try the exercise thingy too but am worried about my dodgy ticker!
SD, poor hubby
I think you need to slow down a bit for a change, and sod the house
Andrewsmum :hello:
I dont mean to leave anyone out, but sometimes i've forgotten what i was going to say by the time i've caught up!0 -
Morning all. *waves*
Hi to newbies and returners. *waves again...it's good exercise*
Just a quickie this morning as I'm off out soon (garden centre has offers on, lol).
I was feeling awful yesterday, weak, lethargic, woolly head etc etc. I was craving carbs really badly and I wanted fruit so I did. I had a 'normal day' eating (not binging) just not low carbing.
I felt better by last night so I think maybe my carb intake was getting just a bit too low and I was paying the price. Weight was the same this morning so as long as I'm good today I should get away with my carb interlude.
I think I need to find a balance where I accept losing more slowly is the payoff for eating less strictly iyswim.
I think going from huge huge HUGEamounts of carbs every day to very little is maybe a bit too much for my system to happily accept so I'm going to be a tad more gradual I think.
'Tis still all good though.:D
sunny.....:( < for hubby. Poor bloke, hope it settles.
See you all in a whiley.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Morning Peeps
its cold outside today brrrrr!
Well i never got to bed lol, woke up on the sofa at 345am and couldn`t get back to sleep. Not been very productive though as i`ve spent most of the time online
Made hubs his brekkie - not had mine yet as i`m strangely not hungry but have had several cuppas. Woofaloes are walked and i`ll hop in the shower shortly.
Brekkie will be the usual, dinner will be a sandwich - probably ham and mustard and tea today will be the spag bol. Think i`ll make lots and then we can have some tomorrow so no cooking to do
Ta for the comments re DH, he`s a poor thing atm but at least he is back at w*rk, he went to bed last night worn out and was the same this morning, he doesn`t seem to be getting any rest and is constantly worn out - he doesn`t look good at all. I`ve been stuffing him full of vitamins to keep him going. Think that i`ll do pasta with DH`s spag bol tonight and i`ll have the courgette ribbons as although lower carb seems to be helping him he shouldn`t be really lc as he is like a stick already and needs to put on some weight rather than lose it.
I`ve ordered some CoQ10 to take as a supplement as i think that we shall both take it, i didn`t realise just how amazing this product is so we shall see if it really makes a difference.
Right time to get busy, Alias - i got some cracking garden bits and bobs from the pound shop yesterday so well worth a peek if you have one close by. We have a nice garden centre too but the prices are
Mazzers - The house has duly been ignored
Have fabby days everyone

Morning all
*waves*
On to day 4 now without much difficulties. I managed to make those Jalapeno cream bacon poppers last night, just fried it instead of oven because it was only a few to try and they tasted yum!! Used too much bacon though as they were abit salty for me. Even my oh who makes a yuk face when i mention no carbs had some and really liked themThought of making Mozzella sticks using paramesan cheese as breading (gonna try to make this on the weekend) there might be a recipe out there already but i just thought i really want to try these. Will experiment and come back to update.
I havent read far back enough to read all about IF but can i ask are you not consuming any liquids during these fasting periods? For the last few months ive not been eating properly during the day, i normally survive on diet drinks and water until i come home for dinner (7-8ish) but this was more for budget purposes than for dieting lol but it works as i am not that hungry during the day nowadays compared to everyday constantly before.
O last question, is everyone on here taking multivitamins? can you recommend a good all round one that i can take to make up for any lack of nutrients etc.
Hope you have all have a brilliant day. x0
