did any of you watch horizons thing on exercise last week? i watched the other day and basically says if you do 12 minutes exercise a MONTH!! its more beneficial than pounding on a treadmill for hours at the gym. you have to do a minute on an exercise bike going hell for leather ( broken into 3 20 second spurts) 3 times a week . i havent got an exercise bike , but have got a cross trainer , i had a go last night and TBH i couldnt do the last 20 seconds i was too kn@ckered , my legs were like jelly lol.. im going to continue and see if it helps with insulin sensitivity .

thankyou for all your supportive posts , it really helps more than you would know :A :T

Yes. It was interesting. I've done little bits of Interval Training/HIIT/Tabata/etc. a few times now. Shouldn't do it more than three times a week though I believe.

On the subject of exercise, quite interesting Horizon programme on TV the other night, about how only 3 minutes of high intensity exercise a week can benefit us. They talk about it here on lowcarber.org. Like one of the posters there, I didn't like the way they talked about how eating fat clogs us up either

You should build up to it though. It sounds easy because it's appealingly short, but it can really knock the stuffings out of you. Have a little read of the 'Tabata' link below.

Not sure I quite mange the 'all intensity', but I do try/push almost as hard as I can, which hopefully is good enough.. (maybe not 100%, as worried I won't manage later rounds.. ~95% perhaps... ) Didn't use a cycle machine as don't have one. Did skipping, burpees, push-ups, star squats, 'No.1 fat burning exercise', crunchies, air jacks, & 'single arm stand' (from wii fit).

    Glad you're feeling better :)

I'm good today thanks Sheila :)

Good news is I took the 1 1/4 hr drive to flourbin.com (also an excuse to drive my newish car-just had it re-mapped/tuned for economy-plus side is a huge gain in torque/power!)

I had my car remapped for power and I find letting my wife drive it in the rain with me as a passenger dampens my appetite somewhat.

    It all helps. :p

Sorted out my problem, back to usual on Thur :)

DM, which bread is the 'original' ?
I've tried a few, my fave is this, the hand made one, didnt rise as well in the bread maker

    http://www.low-carb.org.uk/recipes/bread/gabis/

Least fave was the 'lighter than air' one that rises brilliantly but has the consistency of a bath sponge.
That link of yours looks pretty good, altho i'm a bit wary of the well risen ones.
Lc bread does keep well in the fridge tho, stays fresh, but moulds very quickly if just left in bread bin.

I'm happy with the flaxbread :)
No asian shops near me though :(, so think will buy some from one of those online places that a couple of you linked to.

Yesterday went well. I did notice about an inch of Gin left in the bottle, so had 3-4 'slugs' whilst making pasta carbonara and 'flapjack-chewy-cereal bars' for the boys.

    B: 2 Flax toast (~1g)
L: Cold roast chicken portion, slice of ham, few cubes of cheese, bit of mayo, 8 Brazil nuts. (~5g)
T: Fry up: bacon, egg, mushrooms (~7g)

O: Tea, coffee, 3 pints of green tea+lemon, 1 pint water, s/f gum, and a very late peperami and a couple of Brazils. Oh and the gin (~5g)

    Total carbs: ~20g

Exercise: Walk with chops, ~10 mins. Tabata, hour's Callanetics.

Feeling a bit rough: aching and tummy ache. Conclusion: this quote (from above link):
    5) Do this workout 3 times per week - allow yourself at least one full day of recovery between workouts. Your body needs to heal itself, increase the strength of your heart and lungs, etc.
is spot on. When I increased the I.T. to 20 mins., it did me damage. Now I think doing it 2 days in a row is also damaging. However, I'm going to do it one more time today (for this week), in the hope that the scales won't upset me.. Then I won't do it consecutive days again. Will ease off on the diary too, since I feel it's served it's purpose.

Bought one of those sponge footballs recently for this. Think I'll try that today :)

Hann, i dont think you should do it today, give your body a rest or you do more harm than good.

You can become obsessed with exercising as you can with dieting, a skinny woman living by me has become a bit of a joke with everyone as she goes out walking very fast (unnecessarily) all the time.
Even in the snow she actually hopped and skipped past my house (she walks in a very odd way) arms folded sometimes, pushing her two kids plus a load of shopping in a pushchair with her body stretched forward (prob coz its too heavy) it's obviously got a hold on her and she looks like a mad woman.

    Horrrible day, wet n windy.
Couldn't stick to IF yesterday, comfort ate, but back to it today :)

    Morning Peeps

i've just managed to catch up with you all :D

I`m pleased to report a 4lb loss :j Soooo either the IF has jump started the weight loss or all the stress/worry over the last couple of days has done it for me :rotfl:
Not really sure how the loss has happened as i've had some pretty naughty snacks over the last few days *scratches chin*

Brekkie has been the same as ever, bacon, buttered scramblies and shrooms. Dinner has been a sandwich on lc bread. Beef and hot horseradish yesterday and pastrami and mustard the day before.

Tea yesterday was fish pie with green beans and the same the day before too.

Today will be same for brekkie and dinner but will eat much later as this is my fasting day but i`ve not had the cheat day so i`m combining them. Tea will be burgers and the cheat bit will be a small amount of potato wedges OR i may just be good and do the swede chips as i`m a bit undecided atm. Not sure which veggies to do either and my head is a bit fuzzy today as i`m still tired.

The naughty snacks have been the same too - a whole bag of milk choccy covered brazils and a whole bag of choccy covered peanuts from M&$ - not sure about the weights but they don't seem to have done much harm :rotfl: Almost forgot - had some berries and cream yesterday too.

Had a rough couple of days with DH, he has had a bad time of it but pleased to say that he is back at w*rk today, he woke up Sunday after a really bad night with lots of pain and his hands were stuck like claws and he was in awful pain :( He couldn`t do anything at all for himself, he gradually improved and is able to drive again today - such a relief but we have no idea how long it will be before it flares again. He has been referred to hospital now and has some different tablets. The lc diet seems to be helping too so fingers crossed.

Today is my day off and i`m knackered - been sleeping on the sofa the last few nights to a-give DH all the space he needs to get comfy in bed and b- keep little old doggie company and DH used to carry him up each night but he can`t now :( Little oldie needs company but i think that he is going to have to learn to sleep downstairs now as i can`t be doing this permanently. I think that i`ll try him downstairs tonight but go to bed quite late so that he is asleep before i sneak off, he is stone deaf so shouldn`t hear me lol

I need to go to the shops and really don`t want to go, need petrol as well so i`ve got to go out at some point GRR, all i want to do is snooze away happily on the sofa and be nice and warm, i can ignore the chaos around me for a day as i have two days off so can sort that out tomorrow.

Anyhow, i'll burgle off and check back later, nice to catch up cos i`ve missed you all :A

    Have fabby days peeps

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

    Hi everyone:wave:

Sorry to hear that times are difficult Sunnyday , have a quiet day and a relaxing bath with bubbles and candles, if you have any. We should all pamper ourselves sometimes.

mazzers - glad that you got it sorted:)

hannojah - don't push it too hard. Up most of the night with pain in my thigh and calf so think I have strained my hamstring. Know I should warm up first before using the exercise bike but have been a bit silly.

caeler - glad that you had a good weekend

Sistercas - I think that you are right but I tried so hard last week and it is annoying

alias- how is the second week going?

Forgot to say well done with the weight loss Sunnyday :T

Miserable and cold out so am staying in today. Can't seem to get warm:(

Breakfast - scrambled egg, bacon & 1 ryvita
Lunch - cold chicken, cheese and salad
Dinner - think I'll have to make a veg & chicken curry to offset the problems that the painkillers will give.

I really could do with a bread substitute but not using gluten , wheat, yeast or flax makes it difficult.

    Hi everyone,

I am a lurker here, although I have posted the odd post....and hopefully will post a bit more in the future.

I eat low carb more to keep my blood sugar under control, I'm type 2 diabetic. Losing weight would be a bonus, but I had to finish work about 3 (or 4, can't remember) years ago thru ill health and although I do get out of the house occasionally I am more or less housebound. I would be lost witout my computer let me tell you

When I eat low carb I feel sooooo much better in myself, less bloated for a start, wondered if I was wheat intolerant actually, and my lood sugar is better controlled.

So what went wrong....CHRISTMAS !!! After the Christmas 'fest' I tried to get back into low carbing but I made a BIG mistake of trying to include wholemeal bread and brown rice, oh and brown pasta into my meals....FAIL.......for me this just didn't work.....so after weeks of dilly dallying I have finally got back into 'hardcore' low carb, well I say hardcore but its hardcore for me as I do like to eat some fruit, berries for example.

From last weekend I have been back low carbing and have felt so much better and in control. My fridge is full of low carb goodies and I have started reading this thread again.

This morning I made my own version of the butternut squash and red pepper soup someone posted on here, I forget who it was but would like to say thankyou so much for sharing  While my oven was on (for roasting the veg) I made some 'cheese crisps' which are yummy......just spoonfulls of parmesan and grated cheddar spooned into piles on a baking tray covered in parchment....cooked for just a few minutes.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone :T
