I'm not taking any vits/mins. at the mo., since Doc didn't want me to till my blood's been tested again. Still, don't seem to be suffering too much.. nothing obvious anyway..
My toenails have been horrible for a while now.. no idea whether it coincides with low carbing though.. They're a bit like alias said: thick and rigid and kind of growing away from the nailbed.. an unattractive 'old yellow' colour. They look fine if I cut and paint them, but sometimes I do worry why they're like that.. It's mainly the big ones.. others aren't particularly weird.. as far as toenails go anyway.. lol
I managed to lose 1 lb over the last week, and feel that my little push with the I.T. (interval training) helped. Have let me body recover since though: just doing yoga till next week.
There are several things I wanted to comment on, but like Mazzers, by the time I post and mention a couple of them, I've forgotten the rest. My memory is appalling!
Found the cheesy soy bread recipe! :T Made 13 little 'scone-like' things last night. They're cute and tasty, though 2.5 carbs each is a bit steep for my liking. Forgot who wanted me to say when I found it.. was it PP... (where are you PP..?)..? Anyway, here it is at the LowCarbCafe. I'm sure you know but 'heavy whipping' cream is the same as 'double' apparently (I had to look it up).
Made the 1 minute muffin that Minihauk posted a while back yesterday. Wow, impressed. Could use it for a sandwich bun or burger bun, or cake/pudding-type thing; maybe with berries and cream or something..
Well, best get going. OH has reluctantly taken the morning off to take the boys to school as I have a course today. Should finish early enough to get them later, so he was pleased about that at least. Off to make my whey pancake for brekkie. Not keeping frankfurters atm, due to fridge problems.. won't go into that..
Have a good day tiddly peeps
Oops, on second thoughts.. no time to make brekkie. Wouldn't have had that problem with frankies! Might just have to be an Atkins bar today..

Morning all *waves*
still losing alil every day, I tend to have a addiction to the scales when i am on track but i wont count it until Monday as that will be a full week :j
I am not really being too strict with the low carbing as i am not counting them but just picking foods that i know are pretty low in carbs. Like tonight i am going out to celebrate one of my best friends birthday and we are going to TGI Fridays, already had a look at the menu and i know i am going to go for the steak with butter sauce and for the sides i am having something called wedge salad (which is a crisp, fresh iceburg wedge drizzled with Bleu Cheese dressing, topped with diced tomato, crispy bacon pieces and Bleu cheese crumbles.) sounds yum and some seasonal vegetables with that. My mouth is watering thinking of it now lol.
Not sure if i am having lunch yet, i have a thing for hot sauce and havent prepared any to bring into work as not that well organised and cant find it in any local shops near work so chicken without the hot sauce just isnt the same. BUT not sure if this has been mentioned before but i did notice that Sainsbury do a ready made lc snack of ham or pepperoni wrapped cheese sticks. I thought that was pretty amazing
Have a good day everyone x0 -
Hi, I'm dipping my toe in here as I'm a low carber but I'm more 'old style'. I cook from scratch, avoid processed foods and artificial sweeteners and colours as they can leave me very ill and I'm really trying to re-educate to a new lifestyle rather than a temporary diet.
BUT...!
Providing cakes/puddings for family meals has been my responsibility for many years and I don't want to refuse. And that leaves me with a problem that I hope someone here might be able to help with. I need ideas for desserts that are OK for me but won't offend other people. I don't mind baking something for them which I won't eat but I'd rather have the option IYKWIM.
I have found a very passable substitute for a biscuit/pastry base (which I make without sweetener for biscuits) and berries are obvious so a skinny unsweetened cheesecake might pass muster but after that I'm stumped.
To add to the difficulties, my MIL has just had her gall bladder removed and so has to be on a low fat diet. (It's not a good mix LOL)
(I haven't yet tried splenda, I guess I'm wussing out because of the problems I've had with so many other things.)

I sympathise. My son has liver/gall bladder probs and is on a very restricted diet.
My daughter is a pescatarian (wont eat meat but eats fish).
OH wont eat basics like eggs or pasta.
I'm low carbing.
I'd like to see one of the Old Stylers doing my shopping for the week for £5.50 or however low they usually claim! :rotfl: (Harmless joke, not meant to cause offence.)
I use Splenda a lot btw. I can't tolerate other sweeteners but Splenda is fine.
I can see you doubling your baking efforts...one for you, one for them.:DHerman - MP for all!0 -

No offence taken, I believe true thrift is based on value rather than price. Basing your purchase solely on price often costs more in the long term. Carbs are cheap, but what price health?!
I've heard others say that splenda doesn't affect them, but every time I succumb to trying something containing a substitute I regret it. And I've tried a fair few. I did think I'd found an 'OK' sub with Agave but it seems it's even worse for you than sugar, hence the aim to educate myself away from wanting the sweet things. A lot of people like stevia but it gives me a headache and nausea. I guess I should be brave and try it :undecidedEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Hi
Welcome daska & Mojisola
I try to make everything from scratch and not use the microwave but it is quite time consuming, expensive and means that I think about food a lot! I have problems with quite a lot of things like flax, wheat, gluten etc but have a little splenda each day and that seems to be ok.
Desserts - at the moment my repertoire is almond meal pancakes with berries and cream or chocolate mousse. Could give the cream a miss for MIL. I had my gall bladder removed a few years ago and she should be able to eat fat again soon.
hannojah - good for you with 1lb loss:T I am getting fairly desperate as nothing seems to work, exercise, cutting carb allowance and I don't know what to try next:( I have been back into ketones this week but weighing today, which I know that I shouldn't, no change still. Will weigh on Tuesday as this is my proper day but wonder what to do now? Weight loss only 4lb in the past 2 months!
breakfast - 1 egg scrambled & 1 ryvita with butter - 7 carbs
lunch - corned beef slice with cheese and cucumber0
