Yesterday wasn't bad. Allowed myself red wine (muchos vino tinto pronto tonto! :rotfl: ). A couple of glasses sent me to sleep and made me wake at 4am with a slight almost-hangover-ish feeling lol. Felt fine when I got up though. Had a good stretch in bed before getting up. I mean a really good stretch. Couldn't stop stretching hehe. Dunno what that was about but felt nice when I got up: not as stiff and creaky as usual

    B: frankies (1.4g)
    L: P. cocktail (~4g)
T: 2 of barmaid's fishcakes, swede 'crisps' and boiled cauli. (~10g..?)

    O: Tea, coffee, s/f gum, Good handful of cheese cubes, 7 Brazil nuts (~1g), M&S s/f lemon drop, > 4 pints water, 2 glasses Jacob's Creek Merlot (~8g), 2 squares 85% choc. (4.2g)

    Total carbs: ~30g..?

    Exercise: N/A

Just nipped home for a 'call of nature' before walking chops; and remembered I hadn't actually posted this (again)

    Morning everyone.

Still a bit confused. So, if I follow a recipe that says that the nuitritional analysis is 1g effective carb, 3g fibre, 3g protein, 10g fat and 107 cals then do I count the items a 1 or 4 carbs?

Also please can you tell me what is the best source of accurate information for measuring carbs, or what do you use? Doing this on my own and have been using the Gem Carb counter
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collins-Gem-Counter-Carbohydrates-Everyday/dp/0007176015/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329729622&sr=8-1

Have a great day and what are you making today Mazzers?

    Doing well hannoja

Breakfast - 2 egg omelette with cheese + low carb brownie ( ? 3 or 6 carbs depending on answer to above)
  • Glad you enjoyed the fishcakes Hannoja

Well I went for lunch yesterday and had a smoked chicken ceasar salad without the croutons. All chicken smoked on site...well I should have trusted my instincts in that it had the texture of raw chicken. Lets just say, I can guarantee tomorrows scales will be lower!

Today, I am thinking about making a curry.

Since we have all been discussing carb counts on peanut butter, I thought I would put my tuppence worth in that KP Peanuts appear to have significantly lower carb counts that any of the other ones in sainsbos....all very strange!

As I understand it "effective" carbs is Net carbs, which is what we need to count. The description for the book you linked to says it lists net carbs, so count them as listed in your book.

I've got a very snazzy little book, I got it in The Works for 99p, its called Fat-Burning Diet also from Collins Gem. It gives a few pages of info on several of the LC/high protein diets and then lists the net carbs, cals, protein, fibre and fat of virtually every food you can think of. It was a bargain, and I've found it invaluable since starting this WOE.

One thing I am confused about is the vast difference in the lists for carbs in wine. My little book says a 125ml glass of red has 0.8g, Atkins says the same, but when you look around the internet you get anything between "trace" and 6g  That's a colossal difference.
    I'll stick to gin :rotfl:
  • Hi all! Still hanging on in there....I've found if I have a 'meal deal' curry (for 2 people -2 popodums each, 1 chapatti, 1 naan (for g/f)-2 main course dishes, 2 starters, 1 side dish -spinach & paneer) I put on 0.8kfg-which goes in 3 days...good pay off??

Ok....STILL only lost 2kgs in 3 months! Excercise more....MUST be my daily large voddie (or 3)-will give this up for a week & see what occurs.

    As I said before-look slimmer/feel slimmer/face thinner/-not showing on scales though!

    Swede (39p at ALDI!)-cut into thick chips-microwave with a touch water until just cooked-deep fry-LOVELY-only 2.3carb/1oog!

Will try sweded mash with cream & cheese tonight....prefere texture to cauliflower!

I also noticed he low carb on sainsburys p. butter-must be an error???

    Recipe-2 piggy portions-choc moose!

Melt 75gm 85% aldi choc with 23 gm butter & 2 tablespoons crunchy peanut butter. Add spend to taste. Seperate 3 eggs. Whisk whites until stiff peaks. Fold in slowly the egg yolks-then same for the choccy. Chill for a few hrs (i put mine in freezer for 30 mins). Top with sliced strawberries & clotted cream. Delicious! I guess around 11 carbs/portion?

Will update later re: weight loss. Gym body fat thin has my body fat at a good %-its analysis paper strip thing has been broken for 3 weeks-annoying as it shows water weight etc....

Now I am confused!! Mazzers says that in the UK the fibre is already deducted so I have to count gross carbs but you are saying use net carbs, which is what I have been doing.

Gem carb counter book is good, showing protein, fibre etc. but the one thing that mystifies me is that it says that cream liquer contains no carbs whereas elsewhere it can be up to 13g per shot.

Is there not a correct book / website that can be relied on:(
  • http://www.carblife.com/

Uk site. Bin the GEM book-i have it & some of the stuff is WAY out. Carbs-TOTAL carbs on food labels is what us brits should use-forget taking off fibre etc...

    Hiya

I popped to sainsburys this morning. they only had 2 types of peanut butter, both sainsburys but not value range. the red (crunchy) is 12. something and the blue (smooth) which i bought is 8.2g carbs per 100g. thats the best i have seen so far. might try the other sainsburys later in the week to see if they have the lower one. :D

    Afternoon all

Good news: lost 7lb in my first week!!
Bad news: didn't start my 30 day shred dvd, didn't walk into work today, have just eaten 4 jellybeans, there's yet MORE cakes in the kitchen and I spent the whole week miserable cos my ex has 'moved on' when I clearly can't! I didn't however binge on chocolate as normal - read a book, had a bath, painted my nails, chopped a billion mushrooms, and remembered why he is NOT a nice person and I'm better off without him.... Need to lose weight, gain confidence and get dating!!

    Today:
B: nothing (needed extra time in bed, wasn't hungry in the slightest either)
L: Chicken, 1/2 tomato, cucumber, red pepper, blue cheese dressing
D: Chicken with cauli and broccoli prob with stilton sauce + jelly for pud.

    E: I WILL start 30 day shred.

Thank you Mercy! I'm just wondering what I should have for lunch which is why I need to better plan because I'm not actually feeling hungry! Whereas if I'd planned in advance, I'd have no choice and would avoid the risk of skipping a meal! I'm thinking something with frankfurthers!

I plan and its the main thing that's helped me. I've written a weeks menu plan with some variations so it should last a while. It helps to know what to prepare for the next day - eg roast two chicken breasts so I can take one for lunch with salad.
