As for the rest - oh yes have felt all of that - I hate getting petrol and putting the bin out :o I'm lucky cos my Mum looks after me when I'm ill - and takes me to the dentist

Can I just say I'm a bit of a people watcher and in my watching of my neighbours I've noticed she drives everywhere, puts the bin out and does EVERYTHING! she's also pretty and he's an OAF so I'm wondering what it is that he has... if it's not the obvious then she's bloomin mad!

Oh My solution for the moment is to dress as prettily as possible and make sure I chat to him, and I think I will have to say something about being single just to make it clear. All other ideas appreciated...

What about mentioning a film you'd like to see (preferably one you think he'd like) and saying you have nobody to go with? (all friends busy etc, not am 'billy-no-mates!) :D

Well, the book about how to get a man after 40 we were discussing on the thread a few months ago advises that if you are single you must always dress in your every day life in something your mother would describe as lovely, i.e. baggy trousers and laddered tights might be alright for harassed mothers, but you must never look like you have given up if you are single. I am stuggling with this to be honest as although I think it is sound advice, nothing fits. icon9.gifBut I think dressing as prettily as possible is a great idea.

oh blast, I'm single, over 40 and a mother! there's no hope for me!:o I must try harder to look lovely...

Think that goes back to people in unhappy relationships who seem to have it all

I know, and it is not jealousy, I am happy for people, I just think, "for God's sake, it won't harm anyone or make any difference if I get that too, so why can't I have it?" Does the world need a certain number of single women to function? It's not fair. *stamps feet*

Perfect sense. I know i will be happy of a sort, but i don't think I will ever be properly happy. I will have neices and nephews and godchildren and friends and a house and a job and holidays and I will have to keep pretending it is all right. I cannot even adequately describe how not alright it is. Because I will not get the one thing I want. I do not want to have children by myself.

I am sick of having to look after myself if I am ill, or having to suck it up if I am lonely or afraid or unhappy because no one really truly cares. Friends are not the same. I am sick of having fabby underwear no one will see, unless I get run over. I am sick of dealing with my car myself and getting ripped off. I am sick of having one room in a rented house. I am sick of being fat. I am sick of being poor.

    I think I may be hormonal.:o

I too am sick of all of it. worried about work, had to keep apologising for being such a cow no one to hold me the night before my obs I just had to lay there and think I might lose my job, and then where would I be. Thank God for the chat thread for the first one - they were great the second one I had a fit in the middle of the night and I felt so alone. Other people seem to go through stuff with someone.

I am so lucky to have good friends I know. really good friends. And I know when I read this back tomorrow I will think come on Buffy you have a lot to be grateful for. But I also know how dreadfully lonely I am and how I feel I am losing out. missing out. I want to be in love I want to make a life with some one.

But for now I will have to settle for getting out of debt and putting together some kind of rosy future for me.

    just let that start tomorrow.

I like the film plan. Also just heard that I've got a place on the MSc course I wanted so might try and get people to come out to celebrate. Even lunch would be a start.

Am having an 'elegant and understated' sort of phase anyway so am pretty sure most mothers would approve of what I'm wearing - discovered Bravissimo dress and have had so many compliments on it - from men! - am going to get some more. I do love jersey dresses and they're so easy for summer - dress, sandals, earrings - done. And when it's properly cut and knee length it's perfectly smart enough for work while pretty enough to go out afterwards.

Also happen to have noticed that he seems to like dresses best :D though now it's too hot to wear the sweater dress and oops - stocking top tights ;):D

Right folks wish me luck then
