    Hi

I recently got a letter from Equita stating a debt of £508.06 for Council tax. I contacted them straight away, got through to a bailiff and asked what it was for, no breakdown available....

I heard nothing more and thought no more of it.

I then got a further letter about a month later with a debt of £526.06 I contacted them and the new bailiff advised me the debt was for £762.50, £200 more than the letter stated. The bailiff agreed to give me 3 days to sort before she came knocking on the door.

They had not visited my house or done anything more than sent 3 letters. I chased and chased for a breakdown all ahead of the deadline. I contacted the office on their national rate number and the staff were useless as they are not certified bailiffs so they cannot advise. Karen Fowler, the bailiff manager was not available and apparently if she did take calls then she would never be off the phone. I suggest everyone call her and hopefully she will get help answering the phone.

So I chased the original debt agreed that was paid and went back to Equita, who were less than helpful. I tried the bailiff and can only get her answerphone.

I then decided to pay the £42.50 as documented in the letter. I called back and Equita told me the case is successful. And I paid them nothing.

Equita have some shaddy practices in my opinion, send them an email asking for the breakdown, dont let them in at any costs, (even though I never got to this point). Do not be intimidated by them. I think you will find most of their charges are unlawful and should not be paid.

    Oh and Good Luck!!
  • Can someone please help I have recieved a hand delivered letter from equita balliffs today threatening to call back and remove goods for unpaid council tax. I have contacted them on numerous occasions asking if I can set up a standing order to pay the amount off but they refuse to be any help and just tell me to contact the bailliff!!!
    Can anyone please give advise?

To the above new posters, please have a read of what has been said in the previous posts and act, and also start you own new thread about YOUR problems because they can be lost on someone else's...TOP LEFT ...NEW THREAD.BUTTON..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • Hi,

I had a payment plan (£51 per mth) for my parking ticket with Equita, but I missed 1 payment by 2 weeks due to a death in the family - of which they had no sympathy. I tried to make a payment today but Equita refused to take any money and said it was referred to the bailiff's.

I called the bailiff and he said I owe him £486 which is double the amount of my balance and he is due to come and seize the goods from my house tomorrow if no goods are taken he said the fee will increase £750

I never received any letters, and when I asked for a breakdown of the charges Equita said they could not give them to me as it's been passed to the bailiff's.

Any help please????? I don't know what to do and I can't afford the money they are asking.

    Please start a new thread

And be aware that the cost of bailiff fees on parking tickets is much higher then for CT.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

You too. Please start a new thread.

Go to http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=76 and use the new thread button.

Starting a new problem in a thread about someone else's problem just causes people to waste time reading through a problem which is 3 years old only to find they have read through 3 or 4 pages of irrelevant material. Plus other people start answering the original problem all over again.
