Would anyone sharing how much they claim for "rent, rates, power and insurance costs" each year?
You can allow £3 per week for use of home as office - HMRC allows this unsubstantiated otherwise, should your books be examined, you will need to prove how you work out your costings think this page covers examples
All the SA advice you need is explained on the free HMRC courses so it's well worth getting yourself on one of these as soon as you can for next years forms, they also go through all the allowances applicable for the applicable tax year so you can easily keep up to date.

JP - re the card, please send as is - I have paper and a printer here so I can do my own verse and insert it into the card (I have some doublesided tape and even some ModgePodge).
I use an accountant and she does my self assessment online - its easier as she knows what can and cant be claimed. I keep very simple books and she does the rest.:j0 -

I have been doing a bit of housework today but mainly I have been messing about with craft stuff and scissors - I have been making butterflies to stick on a straw hat - I am not the world's best artist but I am managing - just one more butterfly to colour in and stick to the hat and then I am done:D

thanks both of you, hes better now just a cough and a cold wich isnt uncommon for noah.
Well done on the self employed fully mable, youll do great, dont forget its not wedding season properly yet but things should start looking up soon, also have you thought of normal craft fairs for your jewellery? at least then your getting yourself known and still getting orders in the process.
Im looking at some kind of offer where if a bride orders her tiaras her bridesmaid tiaras and all her favours from me il do a discount, was thinking something like 4 tiaras and 75 favours for around £250, but not sure if thats enough or looks to expensive to the bride, what does everyone else think?back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0 -
Thanks JP :-)
What about so many free favours with each purchase? Say a brides tiara gets 20 favours and a bridesmaids 10 or something like that? Might be too complicated tho. Um, dunno really I just did 10% off any orders on the day as it was easy to work out on the calculator!0 -
they have some free podcasts which are available on www.howtosithbl.co.uk - you need to register on this site but it may be useful to someone.

Sorry Ypaymore - I am having vision and typing problems at the mo, thanks for pointing out my typo:D
Had a good chat on the phone last night with one of my mentors - and now I am working on getting paying clients instead of people who mess me about. My plan this week is to re-write my contract (my solicitor did it and to be honest its rubbish - I dont even understand it ) - but I shall use bits that my solicitor has used but bits from elsewhere too so I know it will be legal.
I also need to sort out some travel insurance now that I have booked my week in Gran Canaria this is mainly a business trip but will have me time in there too.
I shall update my website and maybe start looking at a different blog - one that I can earn money from.0 -
Hiya
Just a quick hello to you all. JP - I hope your son is ok now. My son had croup when he was about 4 (he's 9 now) but I remember it was very scary. Totally blue and just couldn't breathe. They said he'd be prone to it but it never happened again.
I'm busy with work - the website is pulling in new clients. I've also been added to a list of 'recommended therapists' on a website which does courses for complementary therapists so I'm hoping that will help. I'm doing much more work at the hospice too now I've got my qualifications. So, keeping busy!
Hope you're all well. Let's keep that work coming our way xx0
