Welcome MoneyMummy
Mabel - WTC is a bit of a pain to work out - things are bound to work out for you, 2010 is going to be our year.
JP - I have noticed that some jewellery in wholesalers isnt up to much and there's nowt wrong with pinching some ideas. John probably won't stick up for you because he is afraid of his dad - after all he has probably been bullied by him for his whole life, I think the easiest thing to do would be to drop all contact with them. I can remember my dad's mother (note I haven't referred to her as grandma) used to make my mum and I wait outside her house until she had finished talking to my dad and then when we were allowed in she used to pinch me and accuse mum of sleeping with the milkman (he also had redhair) and my dad kept his gob shut the whole time. I can remember agreeing later on in life to seeing her in hospital (I only went to pacify dad) and the first thing she uttered to me was "when your mother dies you will inherit her diamond ring won't you?" and I replied "no, she is leaving it to the dog's home" - I nearly gave that horrid woman a heart attack - mum was forever telling me that her engagement ring would be left to the dog's home which is why I repeated it to that dreadful creature. My mum's mum was my grandma and we were as thick as thieves - I loved her to bits but the creature was different - I couldnt bear to be in the same room as her:rolleyes:
Oh yes, I have debt currently a little over £5K sitting on my 0% balance transfer card (business expenses that I have transferred to it:mad::eek:). I have some news though I haven't renewed my public liability insurance with More than and have had it tacked on to my Hiscox policy for professional indemnity - the public liability bit will cost me £8.75 a month for better cover than with More Than (I used to pay them £13.34 a month).0 -
I'm self-employed too. Thankfully I can utilise most of my procrastination time reviewing chocolate - unfortunately it doesn't pay the bills!
I've hardly used the consoles too this year but I find its far too easy to get onto social networking sites and just "loose" an hour.
Anyone got any tips?"You've got to be in it to win it." Who said that?0 -
Horace Ive recently been advised that I really should have professional indemnity insurance. Was putting it off as I thought it was v expensive. How did you get yours again?0

I like the idea of you all offering your services for weddings together. Between you, the big day seems to be pretty well sorted...:T
You could call the new company...

Seems
Easy
... then it retains the MSE name....;)0 -

I went through Blue Fin who are based in Bristol and got my professional indemnity insurance from Hiscox (I dont have the policy to hand as my accountant has it..as she has all my paperwork:rolleyes:) Hiscox are relatively cheap and they let you pay monthly without additional interest which is an added bonus..I pay £10 and a few pence each month. If you are giving advice Star then you really do need it because someone could sue if they were so minded:eek:
Thanks Mart..MSE indeed:rotfl: I am moving away from weddings because I have none booked and I wasted a ton of money on useless advertising for diddly squat results.:mad:0 -
horace our families sound alot alike, i dont talk to my mums mum cos shes like your dads mum, i had a nan and she was everything to me, but her, she once wouldnt let my mum lens#d something and mum couldnt understand why ( she was only about 13) and the next day when she went round she found her mum and packed up nd gone to scotland to live without as much as a goodbye, she doesnt know my kids and i dont speak after she called me a piece of poo in stronger language and said mum was concieved under a bridge by a stranger. things are better today with john thankfully and i think he might just have got it now.
we have done all our christmas shopping and im happy i did it with money in the bank and no cards, my fair money helped and i only put noahs bike on the catalogue as it was cheaper there than anywere else. just a turkey and veg to buy wich is only £10 as ill only buy a turkey in a tin with us going to my mums the day after boxing day. cant wait for christmas now got loads of parties this week for the kids and hopefully can get in touch with wedding fair lady about the stall feesback to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0 -
JP - thankfully my dad's mum is no longer with us (hurrah), she was a nasty piece of work and I can remember another time when dad was ill in hospital after a serious road smash she sent dad's older brothers round to see my mum to give her a bit of a pasting - I remember that night well as I woke up with the noise downstairs and got a fractured cheekbone for sticking up for my mum (I was 10 at the time) - I cheered when the old witch pegged it, I now refuse to speak to dad's brothers and everyone else on that side of the family. Still my maternal grandma and poppa (that's my name for my grandad) were the best.:j - unfortunately they are no longer with us. I shall see my mum and dad over christmas - I need to see them anyway because mum is buying her's and dad's present and I have to pay her. Mum wanted to get her own present as it is either a dvd or book from one of her favourite crafters and dad wants a john grisham book and mum has the list of what he has and hasn't read.
I have started the clearing up process so that I can put my new rug down, I need to pay some bills this week and go to my last breakfast meeting of the year - will try and drive there as I want to go to the village to the bank and the shops although I am toying with driving to the countrywide shop for a 24 roll pack of toilet rolls that they are selling for £10. I need to get a couple of cards too and a couple more presents. Have cleaned my wardrobe out too and all the skirts that I got when I worked at the Uni that I have never worn and no longer fit will go into the charity bag. Got some of my decorations out today too - have put my blue fibre optic christmas tree in my hall window and filled my fruitbowl with my bead strands of red and gold.0 -
I'm not giving advice Horace, but if I make a mistake in one of my translations and its a legal or a business one it could have consquences so I should really have insurance that way. The other way around it is to spend time insisting with all my clients in writing that my liability is limited to the amount of the invoice (which would mean that if there was a problem, all they could get out of me was the amount of the invoice) but that is a lot of hassle. Some of the agencies I work for I am covered by their own insurance, but I am never 100% sure which ones etc. If I can get it for only £10 per month then I shall def. go for it. I willl see what Hiscox say. Thanks
£10 for 24 toilet rolls??? Did you mean £1???0 -
yey good news i got my wedding stall, its on january 31st at normanby hall, so got to get busy now getting things ready for there, the lady fully understood about paying after christmas and has pencilled me in. might see you there horace if your still going. I'm so excited, hope i can get some orders from there.
hope everyone else is having a good day.back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0 -
Good morning everyone!
Welcome moneymummy1 and getvs!
Horace i am glad you got a nice new coat to keep you snug as a bug! I have just ordered a shed load of really nice warm duvet type coats, all at half price to keep for the opening of the new shop - i can bang them out at really good prices is my thinking. I like the idea of the introduce a friend - i was also thinking about doing like a loyalty points card? One point for every £10 spent then when you have so many points something free? Or money off? Be good to hear everyone's thinking on that. I was up at the new place this morning and found 2 chaps on stilts plastering the ceiling! They should have been in the circus!
Had a really busy few days last week but unfortunatley the money seems to come in one hand and straight out of the other one. At least when i get moved it should be alot easier financially.0
