Now I have a vision of MrsT as a drug smuggling call girl:eek:
LOL I'd never do the drug smuggling and sadly I think my days of having anything to offer as a callgirl are long over :rotfl:
Actually - I was reading the BBC news last week about the "Diaries of a Callgirl" or whatever the book is called - the author finally "owned up" as it were... do you think the HMRC went after her for years of unpaid tax and NI from her callgirl years? :rotfl: and if so what on earth would you put on the "employment type" ???
Yes at times my mind works in odd waysYou'll get used to this or I'll drive you mad

Hi all-sorry i havent been around for a while-you are all doing really well. My life is a bit tits up at the moment, been signed off work for a month with anxiety and depression, started when I had a panic attack in my car while driving to work. Have been put onto Prozac which has made me feel like carp for 2 weeks but supposedly things get worse before they get better. Really dont know what to do now, the business is dead at the moment and am bringing in nothing,I really need my job but at the moment just cant face going back. This had to happen at the 'dead' wedding season time-if it was spring i might have a better idea of whether the business was going to take off :-(
sorry for the moaning!0 -
Fantasy-Dreams - are you on a new deal programme if you are still getting JSA?
I was made redundant in June, so just plain JSA. As I am still actively looking for a job, they werent really intrested in my Self Employment thing. I was already registered as self-employed as I used to do temping in the city years ago, so I only had to call the tax office to advise that I am doing something for myself again (they didn't even ask what) and was advised that they still had money for me on file which was a nice surprise. I have asked them to put it towards my future tax bill although that may be a while away yet. This year it is mainly start-up costs. But I prefer having some money with them, rather than the other way round0 -
Firstly .... :hello: to Goals & Fantasy ...... Welcome to the Beaver / Sloth thread (depending on the day we're having !!)Oh another SE q... if i have registered my business "type" as mainly admin stuff does that mean I have to tell them if I do anything different like the IT work (which I totally forgot to mention on the phone... DUH!) or any other types of work like that? Or are they more interested in if I was say doing stuff like selling goods vs providing services?
Mrs T - I'd be inclined to maybe put something like "Virtual Business Support Services" .... covers a multitude of sins :rotfl::rotfl:
Well I am not a happy ickle kittykat ....... I've just had a campaign cancelled on me - £350 for 2 days work  But the REAL kick is that it's been cancelled with just 24 hours notice, this work was due to start tomorrow !! No chance of replacing it, especially as it would have been paid beginning of December - I'm gutted.
Ohhhh, and in reply to Mrs T's question (I think) about what we all do... On the working side atm, I do whatever I can to get get money in - As well as Temping - I do (stock) Audits, Replenishment, Merchandising and some M/Shops.
However, my Business (which I am currently trying to re-build after a relocation & sabbatical due to unforseen circumstances) is a combination of complimentary services : Virtual Assistant & Media Services (writing & editorial stuff etc), Life Coaching, Inventories, and Merchandising / Visual Displays.
(I am a firm advocate / convert of having Multiple income streams)
Well, back to my current task of touting for extra work

you can, if you are actively looking for a job and your own business is not hampering your efforts to find work. This is contribution based JSA. I am not sure what happens once it goes to income based JSA next month.
But as my business is not making any money yet, it shouldn't really affect any benefit claims I am making. I can't afford to lose JSA as my Housing Benefit is tied to it.
It will be a major nightmare doing my tax returns though. I have no idea yet how that's going to work out...0 -
pop, there goes my quiet afternoon....
Just had 2 requests for wholesale accounts in. One was easily dealt with and looks like a done thing. Just sending off some samples and hope they like what they see.
The other one is causing me a bit of a headache. My OH was asked by the Job Office to take on voluntary work. He has done and it looks like it's throwing business my way. Problem is, I have never done any business with a charity....I have to have a pitch and a brochure ready in 1.5hrs. Argh. I have been concentrating on my website and haven't got a brochure yet. I make natural soaps and thankfully have ready labled and registered soap ready for samples, but no brochure and no sales pitch. I guess I better get off here and start working.
If I do make things for a charity to sell, does it look bad, if I want to make profit on it ? I mean I do have to cover my costs ? And we do need to eat ? I am thinking of charging them less than what I would normally do (below wholesale price) and allow them to sell on concession, but it isn't wrong, is it ?0 -
I think you are right Star - the only way you could be SE and getting JSA was if you were on a New Deal for self employment programme which ceased in June/July this year. I signed off JSA and now get working tax credits which is less but I still get some housing and council tax benefit (I am in credit with the council tax anyway to the tune of £160).
MrsT - you haven't seen how my mind works..it really is most odd:eek: Talking of drug smuggling - you have reminded me that I have a tube of kali in my handbag left over from a meeting earlier this month.
Mabel - sorry to hear that you are ill, I hope you feel better soon. Have you thought of making jewellery for proms and parties? Most folks see you as purely bridal and won't think that your jewellery could be used for something else. Can you send me some more postcards? I am thinking that when I respond to some of these bridal enquiries that I shall put one of your postcards in there too.
Angel sorry to hear about the campaign being cancelled - I hope you manage to find something else. Glad you enjoyed your walkabout yesterday.0 -
It's not at all wrong - if you feel guilty making as much money from them as other places then give them a discount or reduce the profit you make by x % - they wouldn't expect you to work for nothing
If they wanted then you might think about a twist on it like "20% of profits on soaps sold in your shops etc goes to you" depends on whether they want to buy the stock outright or are happy for you to invoice them for each item they sell and you can keep an eye on it etcDFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
