Grr I've lost 3 posts now!!
Good luck with the spa tomorrow Horace, just ask, tell them that it will be great for them as _____ people will see/hear their name and it will be great for advertising them for not a lot too. We have an offer going with the cinema, we just had to ask and pay for the posters.
Martinsgifttogo I'm glad the link was useful, good luck with it.
I have to do a to do list tomorrow if I don't tell you that I've done one then someone tell me off, I'm getting nothng done due to interuptions and I'm away next week so I need some order before I go so I don't come back to chaos!0 -
Horace - congratulations on the free seminar place.
Hopefully you'll have sorted your co-student out - the tutors are paid to 'tutor' students not you so get them to sort it out, and don't drop hints - just tell her straight that if she doesn't understand the work she has to go to the tutor - colleges are very different to schools and she's trying to get other people (you) to do her work for her, so look at it as stopping enabling this manipulative behaviour and help her take responsibility for her own work/actions/assignments (climbs off soapbox)
Mudbath - again thanks for the numbering idea and the book suggestion - I'll look out for it. I'm a huge Dr Phil fan which has helped me make sense of the world. The most recent book that blew me away was Anna Louise Haigh's The Soul Whisperer - awesome & very thought provoking. I have also considered joining a LOA group locally - might see if I can trade some work/advice instead of paying
TCM - good luck with the business plan
That's something I know I should do, but never have...
MoneyMabel - nice one on the extra sales
NZmegs - sorry about the job - i've looked for part-time work but as BB says I should stay focused on My business to give it the energy to build rather than spread my focus to thin.
Everyone else great to hear about your adventures.
I spent yesterday sorting out data for the client contact system BB is doing and should be on track to get it running next week, also been discussing other modules to add for the Salon and other procedures to put in to improve standars, control & visibility as her business expands - so long term work 'contract' there
I've not done work then had to bill the business for it - any advice or tips?
Today gotta get ready for my 'table day' by printing brochures/ literature etc to give out at the shop. It's turning out to be a busy week
Hope everyone has a good day0 -
Nappentass - I have emailed my tutor about this wretched girl and I admit to still being sorely tempted to remove her from my friends listing so she can't contact me. I noticed last night that she had posted the same questions on the event planning group on facebook after wasting 2hours of my time the night before:rolleyes: Actually, thinking about it, I will definitely remove her from my friends listing because she is so draining - jeez I feel better already:D
My place is looking a little tidier and I shall tell the man about my plans to have a move around as I want to fit in another set of galvanised shelves (yet to be erected).
Best crack on I suppose as I have a fair bit to do today as I have realised that I need yet more paperwork for this bloomin' fair - I am so bored with it now as my mind has already shifted up a gear and onto other things.:rotfl:
Have a good day all.0 -
Horace, you were right - terribly quiet last night as I was knee deep in your business plan and I am nearly finished it! I worked like a trooper and only threw 1 hissy fit at Odd George the cat who kept walking across the laptop. He had to be assisted outside! Thank you so so much for the plan - i would never have been able to do it on my own and make it look professional! Will let you know how the meeting goes tomorrow!
NZmegs, am sorry to hear you did not get the job - I am a great believer that everything happens for a reason, so it must mean there is better for you out there. Everything will work out fine - its maybe the step you need to take the plunge into self employment.
My plan for the day is to finish off the business plan, I have a few horrible phone calls to make to chase money and orders that have not got to me (I hate those calls) then I plan on opening a bottle of wine tonight as I am like a coiled spring at the minute!0 -
Morning all!
I am off work for a couple of days as I had a general anaesthetic for nasty tooth removal yesterday. Hate having time off, but needs must and boss told me to stay off til Friday. I don't feel too bad in myself, so planning to sit and make some jewellery today
I also had some new beads arrive in the post yesterday, so hoping to feel inspired (or something).
Horace- agree- it is not v warm up here. Bit windy too- brrrr0 -
Mills - a general anaesthetic generally takes a week to clear your system so take the time to relax and have afternoon naps:D Whereabouts are you based - I am not far from the rover works.
TCM - I hope you didnt laugh too much at my pie in the sky figures..I wish I was earning that money but alas I am not and scraping by on the odd mystery shop which nets me £10 (its goes straight into my business account) and working tax credit at £50 a week:eek: As a template it is quite useful and I heartily thank Mike who advises at the chamber as well as running his own accountancy business specialising in tax:eek: as he is the one that sent me the template in the first place (I had to take out the example gardening business that he used in class to demonstrate the business plan).
Time to whizz off...have a good day.0 -
Hi all-blimey this thread is so busy i can't keep up with the posts but hello to everyone!
Good luck with the inspiration mills-if you get any can you post me some lol! i need to start working on some new designs for next year but creative juices have dried up.
am sending out a (post) mailshot today to the people that filled in the prize draw forms but didnt leave an email address offering them the same deal if they spend over £30. Am going to enclose one of your leaflets in each letter Horace..you never know! There was a local wedding planner at the show (just started up) but if they already have one of your leaflets from the show and then another one in the letter it might get into their brains!!!0 -
Horace- wow we are v close. I live up by the L. Hills
Yes I think it will take at least a week to recover
(or I could pretend)- OH will be thrilled
Moneymabel- Inspiration is yet to strike. I am waiting for postie to arrive as I have 2 lots of beads yet to arrive :tapsfingers:0 -
I hate waiting for the postie :-( Ive got some crystals coming that i need to finish a customers order, they never arrive when you actually feel like making some jewellery!0

nappentass.. billing people for work after youve finished it (if im understanding you correctly). In my line of work this happens all the time. Normally you need to agree with the client in advance how they are going to pay you (less relevant if they are in UK but most of my clients are abroad), who is responsible for any transfer fees, if any, what the payment period is (my standard is 30 days), and the rate for the work. When I'm finished I normally send off my invoice straight away (or within a few days if im really busy.. the sooner they get the invoice the sooner I get paid). I have a Word template that I use with my name and address, the clients, reference numbers, date, invoice number (my invoices are the date followed by the number of invoices I've done that day eg 010909/001 is the first invoice I wrote on 1st sept 09) and my bank details. I then convert it into pdf so they cant change any of the details (well they can but its a lot more effort for them to do so!!) I use Cute ftp which is a free program and very easy to use. Once its installed, in Word you just go to 'print' and cute ftp shows as a printer, when you choose to 'print' to it, it asks you where you want to save the file and you get a pdf version of your word doc. I then email this to my contact at the client and hopefully just have to wait 30 days.
Hope this is the type of thing you were looking for!
