Martins..why not see if you can apply for working tax credits now rather than try and wait..for months and then apply, or you could at least phone the HMRC and see what they say.

Thanks...I can apply for Working Tax Credits once I am working 16 hours or more...but because it is a different department from where I get my Income support paid...my current benefits would stop instantly and the WTC would take a couple of months to kick in.

I have been down that road before, but this time I have no funds available to pay my utility bills etc while I wait for the backdated money to turn up.

Thanks TCM-I was glad I picked her name out too!!

I think I will have to get hold of Deborah 'Dragons' book it sounds like it has given you a lot of ideas about the shop, definately worth a read by the sound of it.

Way to go MM - really glad she ordered more than the voucher was worth. I wish I knew how my new clients were finding my website....my site wizard doesn't appear to tell me though I could be looking in the wrong place!!

Hi all, sounds like you have all been busy.
I had my interview this morning and thought it had gone well. They kept me there for well over an hour and asked lots of questions. But just got a call and I didn't get it. Apparantly it was very close, they were very impressed - all that....
So I am back in the ranks of the full time self employed again. Just 3.5 weeks to go and then I can focus completely. I will still be looking for work (just in case) but I am sure I can get more clients for my writing and let this take off.
I was in two minds anyway - I wanted to concentrate on my writing and I knew that getting another job would be a distraction from that. But now both hubby and I are self employed - that is scary but good as well.

Well done Mabel on the extra sales:j

TCM - I am such a nincompoop I sent your email to the wrong address, you had given me the correct one but for some unknown reason I typed the wrong one:rolleyes: Anyway I have re-sent it so you should soon be nosing at a business plan and cash flow forecast thingy.

I emailed my tutor this afternoon with details of the leech - and already I am feeling a bit better - I have no idea why I let her get to me:rolleyes:

Now then peeps - answer me this - does cross cut shredded paper make nice comfy bedding for hamsters and the like? I have a bag full that I need to dispose of..I could freecycle it if its ok for beasts if not then I can empty it into a paper carrier bag and take it to the paperbank.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the job nzmegs :-( sure something will come up soon for you.
    Thanks Mudbath:-)
Horace - my boss at my part time job uses her shredded paper for horse bedding as her horse is allergic to hay!

Mabel - I don't have enough shredded paper to bed down a horse:eek: - I have a carrier bag full.

Megs sorry to hear about the job but maybe its fate:D

TCM is awfully quiet tonight - I guess she is working through her business plan whilst laughing her head off at mine:rotfl:

I must set my alarm for 7 as this guy is coming at 10 and I want to do a bit more tidying up. There are some papers I want to go through and I need to whizz around with the vacuum in the other rooms. I feel disclined to do it tonight:rolleyes:
  • Hi folks

God - everyone has been busy!

Welcome to Naijapower and Mills and other newbies - nice to have you along...

NZmegs - sorry to hear about the job but keep going - at least you got positive feedback.

MM - well done on the extra sales - sounds like your voucher giveaway was a great idea.

Horace - have to say - really sounds like that girl is on the wrong course, she doesn't seem to have the basic concept of anything so how she expects to be able to organise an event is beyond me, I do get hacked off as I think people think event organisation is really simple when they don't think of the mountain of prep going on before and during...

Well things going really well for me at the moment, picked up another new client today - probably about 8 hours a week but the good thing is its a simple audio typing job, typing up property inventories. I can do it outwith my usual hours so doesn't interfere with my other (shall we say more demanding) clients. Also as I usually deal with musicians this is something slightly different, I need to brush up on my audio so its all good.

Tomorrow is a busy day, a briefing in the morning with UK trade and industry about how to make the best use of your trip to the SXSW conference in Texas which I attended last year and hope to attend again. Hopefully can do a little networking when I get there. Then a meeting with my friend who runs a major bands fanclub and needs some inspiration, then some catch up bits in the afternoon and a gig in the evening and for once the gig is for fun - not work! Looking forward to a rewarding beer I think...

Hope everyone is escaping the rain (well if you are in London you have no hope - its proper miserable!)

    Hi Ally

Well done on the new client, the audio typing and the possible trip to Texas. I wouldnt mind hanging around with musical types although I admit they can be demanding (my parents managed a band in the late 60's early 70's so I grew up around these strange folk and their even stranger demands:eek:).

I have this workplace inspection to look forward to tomorrow but I need to get up early and finish tidying up (too lazy to do it today), and then in the afternoon I am off to a meeting at the spa as I am trying to blag a voucher for the wedding fair. The wedding fair is now driving me doolally as I am wondering now if I should offer some kind of referral scheme where the person who does the referring gets £50 (the £50 will be added to the cost of the wedding or worked into the costs somehow).

There isnt any rain up here in Birmingham Ally but it is quite cold and I have had to resort to fishing out my warmer slippers and will even wear bedsocks for the first time for months (I hate having cold feet).

Have fun at your gig Ally.
